Chapter 183: THAT WOMAN

[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: NOTION ~ THE RARE OCCASIONS]

Kitanna rubbed the sleepiness off her eyes, blinking away the urge to continue sleeping as her whole body was worn out. She smiled when she remembered the passionate night she experienced with Nix. Kitanna bit her lips shyly, touching the side of the bed where Nix had laid the other night.

"..," Kitanna jerked up; the bed was empty! The sleep flew away from her eyes instantly as her whole senses became alert. Did she dream about everything? Perhaps an imagination because she missed her husband so much. But that wouldn’t be true because the way her inner core throbbed was evident that the night actually happened but where was he?

Kitanna brought her leg down from the bed, donning the long jacket over her shoulder.

"Nix?" She called, her heartbeat racing as the thought of Nix not being beside her scared her so much.

"Nix?" The young queen called for her husband again, as tears started to well up in her big brown eyes. She turned when the door linked to the bathroom opened, revealing the blue ocean-like eyes she enjoyed drowning herself in.

"Kitanna, it’s a beautiful mor-" Nix didn’t complete his words because the next moment Kitanna crashed on his chest, holding him tightly as she sobbed.

"I thought you left, I thought I was all alone again," Kitanna whispered, trying hard not to cry loudly.

Nix moved his hands, petting her midnight-black hair gently, trying to calm her down. "I won’t ever go anywhere without you again, wherever it is in this world, I will always go with you." His deep voice soothed her emotions as he wrapped her in his arms.

When Kitanna finally calmed herself, she took a step back, craning her neck to look at Nix.

Nix smiled, staring back at the woman he had sworn to protect for life. He used his thumb to gently wipe a tear that was threatening to escape her eyes.

"I’m sorry for not being there when you woke up. I was drawing a bath for us. It’s past breakfast time." Nix apologized; he had wanted to make his woman comfortable when she woke up after the long night they shared. They had slept in, now waking up a little late, he didn’t expect her to cry, and he felt so bad about it.

Kitanna pressed her lips; she didn’t know she had slept that late. "Thank you," she muttered.

After the couple finished with their bath, they walked, holding each other, as they walked down to have breakfast. Entering the dining room, Hieron was finishing his morning meal when he raised his face to see his grandson and his wife.

"Greetings Lord Hieron," Kitanna bowed slightly, taking her position on the chair Nix pulled out for her.

Hieron dabbed his mouth with the tablecloth, "A very fine morning, I was not expecting you two to step out of the room for breakfast owing to the fact that you two have been apart for a while or did you step out because the bed needs to be changed." The old man teased shamelessly, winking at his grandson who didn’t pay him any attention.

Kitanna cleared her throat, trying to keep her blush at bay, she smiled shyly having flashbacks of the other night.

Nix sliced the apple into chewable sizes, passing it to Kitanna; he said, "This would open up your stomach to eat." Then the smile on his face fell when he turned to his grandfather.

"Lord Hieron, you should attend to the ministers, no?" He tried to shoo him away so he could stop saying things.

"No, I prefer to stay around young ones; it makes me young. Makes me remember my youthful days. Oh, how I..." Lord Hieron trailed, talking about his old days of exuberance.

Kitanna smiled at intervals, enjoying the breakfast that was spiced with the tales of her grandfather-in-law’s adventures.

"So what was my grandfather like?" Kitanna asked as she reached for the water jug. But Nix was faster, pouring it for her in a cup before passing it to her.

"Thank you," Kitanna whispered, giving her husband a sweet smile, it was always the way he paid attention to everything concerning her that made her heart feel warm.

Hieron cleared his throat, "Your grandfather? Eusebius was a good man, always in the mood for a good time but won’t ever joke with his title as king. He once told me that he would conquer Avon and give it to me just to celebrate the full moon," the elder white Lord smiled, reminiscing the old times that were good that he shared with his very good friend.

Kitanna smiled, "He said that?" She laughed, enjoying the story about her grandfather as she never got to meet him.

Hieron nodded, "He did; he can be very funny, especially when drunk, but he never did anything with any woman other than the woman he loved. He will always warn me to stay away from countless women, but what can I do? It’s in the blood of Zeno," the old man moved on his chair trying to adjust when he sensed his grandson glaring at him.

"Until we find our soulmate that is, we don’t hang around other women when that happens." He clarified.

Kitanna laughed, as she also noticed the look Nix passed to his grandfather, but she didn’t need to worry because she knew very well how much Nix loves her.

"So the woman my grandfather loved, that’s my grandmother how is she that she caught his attention. What was she like?" Kitanna asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity, it felt as if she was rebonding with her family.

Hieron sighed, "He didn’t end up with her; Eusebius had planned to break her heart because she was just a maid, but I advised him not to because titles don’t matter when it comes to affairs of the heart. But then, the next morning when your grandfather was going to ask her to be his wife. She disappeared, that woman. We searched for her for many moons and gave up, not later we found out she had betrayed Eusebius. She allied with a tribe, that killed your grandfather."

Hieron’s voice sounded distant as he remembered how hurt his best friend was when he realized it was the woman he loved so much that was also killing him.

Kitanna shook her head in disbelief, she didn’t know her family had this kind of tragic history of betrayed love. She wondered what type of woman would betray a man who loved her so much.

"And the woman? Where is she now?" Kitanna asked.

Hieron paused his lips, "I don’t know, haven’t searched for her after I avenged my friend I decided to let everything go." After a moment of silence, the elderly man said.

"That woman, Deonisia."

"Deonisia?" Kitanna and Nix asked in unison.
