Chapter 152: RAMPANT
Chapter 152: RAMPANT
[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: PHONE CALL TO HEAVEN ~ TIFFANY ALVORD]
Bareea sat inside her room, fiddling with her fingers. She tried to understand what had happened over the past few days and who would dare to blackmail her. Her prime suspect was Larel, but the woman was missing from the palace. She pondered who it could be, but nobody came to her mind. What bothered her the most was that her child had been taken away from her.
"Attack!!" Bareea jumped up from the chair when she heard someone scream. The palace was under attack? Could it be their enemies or maybe someone else? Almaria? Bareea walked towards her door, and as soon as she opened it, the two guards placed to guard her room fell on their faces. She moved back as horror marred her face, slowly raising her face to see who it was that was attacking the palace.
"Queen Dow-..." Bareea muttered, her hands trembling in fear at the sight of the woman.
"Where is my grandson?" Almaria asked, not ready to spare the concubine another look.
Bareea gulped slowly, trying to find her voice. She was so afraid, "T-they took him...away," she replied, feeling sad for herself.
Khelan walked to stand in front of the woman, grabbing her shoulders tightly. "They did what? You were asked to watch over the child and you couldn’t? You’re so useless," he hissed, pushing the young woman aside.
Almaria eyed the girl for a moment before leaving her room. "Unlock all rooms, find the child, and Oh, find a woman named Panha." She said before walking away from there, making her way towards the inner palace.
Bareea clenched her fist. How could they tag her as useless? So all they wanted was her son and not her. She sneaked out of the place, going to find her son before them.
"What is going on?" Hieron asked when he saw Chantal running towards him.
"Lord Hieron, you need to hide now! The palace is under attack, and a prisoner escaped," Chantal reported. How could something like this happen in the absence of Lord Nix? It bothered him so much, but he had to first protect Lord Hieron, as that was the instruction given to him.
Hieron unsheathed his sword, his frail hands now looking alive. "Rubbish!" He spat. "I don’t cower at the face of danger; we charge into war head-on. Listen to me now, every guard in this palace shall fight until they cannot move anymore. Tell them I said so; we will keep the palace safe until my grandson returns." The elderly man spoke with so much authority and confidence. And as if the heavens were feeling the strong energy from him, the clear night sky darkened as rumbling was heard from a distance. Soon, it started drizzling.
The door to Panha’s room opened; she sat on her bed smiling. When she heard the palace was under attack, she knew it was none other than Almaria. It was luck that made her arrive before Kitanna; earlier when she found out that the princess was in the palace, she didn’t get a chance to write a letter to Almaria to retreat because she was locked up as a suspect. But after hearing them leave again to find others that were abducted, she prayed that Almaria would arrive first, and heavens answered her prayer.
"Are you Lady Panha?" The person at the door asked.
"Alive and well, where is your leader?" Panha pushed her leg down on the ground and walked to the door as the guard led her to where Almaria was sitting on the throne.
"Panha, maybe I put too much hope in you. You were caught?" Almaria asked at the sight of the young woman.
Panha smiled, "But everything still worked out well, right? Congratulations on getting what was yours, but I would advise we leave immediately for now," she said, getting a look of annoyance from Almaria.
Almaria stood up from the throne and walked to where the young woman was standing, " I should leave? After reaching my home? They must have fed you plenty of garbage while you were here. What makes you think I would reach to my final destination and then run away. Again?" Almaria’s voice held a hint of irritation. When she remembered running away as she was being chased by that brat Kitanna, she was not going to allow it to happen again.
"The princess will soon return; she was never abducted. She went to bring back those that were taken away. Let’s leave and re-strategize," Panha suggested, looking at the proud woman standing in front of her.
Almaria twitched her lips, "I don’t have to worry; I have back up. Have you seen my grandson?" She asked the question that was more important to her. Even if Kitanna were to return, the supreme king and other troops were on their way too so there was nothing for her to lose.
"The baby? He was put under the care of two scrawny looking eunuchs," Panha replied, pushing the side of her skirt back.
Outside the palace, Hieron took as many soldiers as he could cut, down to hell. Even though he was now old, that didn’t mean the agility was no longer in him. His skills of fighting during the war were still evident as he fought better than most of the palace guards.
Chantal did the best he could, taking a large number of the intruders and cutting them down as he moved through the passage reaching a particular door he knocked.
"Clephas!" He called the man; there was a sense of urgency laced in his voice.
"Chantal! What happened to your-"
The words hung in his throat when he saw someone try to stab Chantal. The brown-haired young guard followed his trail of sight as he swiftly moved to the side deflecting the intruder’s attack.
"Go inside!" Chantal screamed before he pushed the intruder to the wall, slitting his throat.
"Chantal what’s going on?" Clephas asked the moment Chantal stepped inside the room.
"The palace is under attack, you two with the child need to hide. Our men are being outnumbered, but we will try to protect you. I’ll make an opening for you."
Quickly Clephas wrapped the child in front of him while Severus packed a few clothes in a bag as they stepped out of the room.
Another intruder charged towards them, but it didn’t take long for Chantal to bring the person down with his sword. They walked briskly through the passage as they watched the guards try to protect the palace with their lives, adrenaline rushed in the blood of everyone at that moment except the baby who was sleeping peacefully. Unaware of the bloody battle.
Successfully reaching outside the palace, Chantal turned to the eunuchs. "You will have to continue alone now; Lord Hieron needs me, take this, protect yourself." He handed them a small knife before he turned to leave; Clephas held him tightly.
"Make sure you stay alive." Chantal smiled before disappearing from there.
The rain was now getting heavier, making things outside look blurry, but the guards did not stop fighting.
Hieron was like the ray of hope to the guards; his energy appeared not to be failing, and this made the palace guards have confidence.
Chantal rushed to stand beside him, as he cut the intruder who was about to hit the old man from behind.
"How are things inside the palace?" Hieron asked as his back now touched that of Chantal, the two of them being encircled by a large number of Almaria’s soldiers.
Chantal shook his head, "Our men are getting weaker," he replied raising his sword.
Hieron gritted his teeth, tearing a piece of his garment; he used it to secure his sword tightly on his hand. "Let’s fight until our hands can’t move anymore."
Chantal did the same as what the old man did. Tying his sword tightly, on his hands and he prayed one last time for the White Lord to return.
"Argh!" They charged towards the intruders, the rain now splattering heavily on the ground mixing with the blood of those that were no more. As the thunder rumbled, engulfing the cries of those that fought to keep the palace safe.
