Chapter 153: I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE

Chapter 153: I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE

[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: WONDER WOMEN~ EDWARD MAYA]

The right-hand man of the supreme King walked towards the inner palace where Almaria was sitting. His sword dripping with blood, evidence of the numerous kills he had achieved that night, yet his face looked worried as he appeared in front of the Lady.

"Have we conquered the palace? Alert the supreme King that he can come here and complete his rest." Almaria threw her head back in laughter, enjoying every cry of anguish coming from the palace guards as it mixed up with the rain and thunderstorm.

Dominique bowed deeply, "Half of the palace is almost conquered..."

"What happened to the other half? You want me to do it myself?" Almaria sneered, thumping her feet on the ground.

"My apologies Lady Almaria, but two men have been causing trouble for my men." The tall man replied.

"Just two men? You should be ashamed of yourself. So why are you here instead of fighting! Don’t tell me you want me to go and finish the battle for you!" The woman scoffed, looking at the tall right-hand man of the supreme king. Was he some kind of coward? Almaria couldn’t help but think of the possibility.

"Go out there, cut down those two and bring me good news!" Almaria waved her hands, motioning for Dominique to leave the inner palace. The man bowed and left the room.

Almaria tapped her fingers on the chair she was sitting on, anxiety was beginning to creep into her system; she had expected the fight to end as quickly as it started. Kitanna was not around, neither was Nix, so who was it that made things difficult for her. Almaria sighed.

"Khelan, have you seen your son?" She turned her face to look at her son, who was sitting very close to her.

Khelan shook his head, "I haven’t seen him." His words caused his mother to look at him sternly.

"You haven’t seen him? Is he supposed to walk to where you are? Khelan, go outside and look for your son! Am I supposed to do everything for you?" Almaria asked her son, looking at him with dismay.

Khelan shrugged his shoulder, "They are fighting outside; what if something happens to me out there."

Almaria inhaled, trying to calm her impending outburst. It was obvious her son did not carry any of her traits; the boy was something else. She looked around in the room, but it was two guards who were assigned to protect them sending one away would be her unwise thinking.

"I’ll go look for the boy." Panha suggested after listening to the conversation between mother and son. She stepped out of the room and made her way to Bareea’s room. In the midst of the fight, she hadn’t seen the concubine, and it could only mean she was looking for her son. Panha raised her gown to avoid it getting stained with the blood on the marble floor. When she caught sight of a palace guard running towards her direction, she held her chest and started wheezing.

"W--what is going on? I was just in my room when, oh my God." Panha blinked, trying to compose herself, but it was all an act which the guard was not familiar with.

"My lady, I’ll lead you to safety. This place is dangerous; stay behind me." The unsuspecting guard assured the lady who appeared to be in distress, using his body to shield her while he walked her to a safe place.

Panha’s lips curled as she walked behind the guard, retrieving a small knife from her waist without making any suspicious sound. She used it to cut the defenseless guard down. The look in the guard’s eyes before he stilled was one of shock, surprise, and betrayal.

"Be careful of people you offer help to. Times like this, nobody is to be trusted, but it’s so sad you had to learn it at this point. Have fun in hell." Panha pulled out the knife and kicked the lifeless guard as she continued her search.

Bareea walked round the palace searching for her son; she had already checked every room, but there was no sign of him. The heavy rain was not making it easy for her. At that moment, she realized how bad she had failed as a mother, not giving her son the necessary attention, whereas, in the end, the child was her only savior. She pushed open the last door at the corridor, but there was nobody there.

"Labre, please give mother one more chance," Bareea muttered as she walked aimlessly outside, where she caught sight of the elder white Lord and a young guard fighting against the intruders, and from the look of things, they were losing. Bareea was going to turn to leave, but a familiar figure stepped into the battle ground.

"Panha?" Bareea whispered; she was going to shout for her to leave the danger zone, but something else caught her eyes. Panha was talking to the intruders.

Hieron looked from the side of his eyes at the boy that was fighting beside him. Even though the rain was washing away their wounds, the boy had received more cuts than normal.

"Boy, leave now. I will take over." His words were directed at Chantal.

Chantal looked at the side of his stomach which was the most recent wound, and he smiled. "We promised to hold this place up until Lord Nix comes back. It’s better you leave; I will cover you." He replied, staggering a little due to the numerous cuts on his body.

"Aw, so heart-wrenching, it’s the elder white Lord and a mere guard that has been bugging us."

Both Chantal and Hieron looked at the person that was speaking; it was none other than the guest they harbored for the past few days.

Panha used her hands to push her hair back as the rain made it relax. "If you ask me, I won’t believe you would still stand. But this should be over now; tell me where the child is, and I’ll spare your life." She smiled, bringing out her small knife.

Hieron spat in disgust, "What makes you think I want the likes of you to spare my life?" He already suspected that there was something shady about the merchant lady, but he didn’t take it too seriously, not until now.

"You speak for yourself; what about the poor boy beside you? He’s losing a lot of blood, poor boy." Panha grinned.

As they were talking, Chantal used his body to block the attack that was meant for the white Lord. Another cut was made on his back, causing him to lose his balance.

"Ah!" Bareea gasped from where she was hiding. What was Panha doing? It was then everything dawned on her: the poisoning, the blackmail. The woman had come to her with a motive; she had trusted the wrong person all along.

Back where Chantal was now kneeling with one leg, Hieron rushed to the boy’s side as he used his teeth to unwrap the knife on his hand.

"What is wrong with you, boy? You don’t take a hit for me?" He asked with so much worry.

Chantal, who was now coughing blood, smiled, "Lord Nix ordered..." he coughed again.

Panha looked at them with pity, then she smiled. "Let’s put you both out of your misery." She waved at the men on her side, signaling them to finish them off.

The soldier charged with his knife to end the fight, but he did not take more than two steps when an arrow got stuck in his throat, as he fell on his back lifeless.

This caused Panha to step back; she squinted her eyes to catch a glimpse of who it was. The rain and darkness did not make it easy for her, but she heard horse hooves.

Not waiting for her horse to stop, Kitanna jumped down with a bow in her hand and two arrows as she targeted Panha again.

Panha used an unfortunate guard to dodge the attack; the sight of the princess sent streaks of fear accompanied by the rain, running down her face.

Kitanna took out Tizona, "I knew you were trouble the first day you arrived."

Not waiting to hear the lady speak, she charged at Panha, jumping with all her might as her flexible sword gathered brittles of rain.
