"The baby burped!" Severus called the attention of Clephas, who was busy cleaning where the baby would be laid.
Clephas smiled, turning to look at the boy. Since they were asked to look after the child, they couldn’t get enough of his cuteness. He finished off with what he was doing, stretching his hands to carry the baby who smiled at him.
"I heard you burped, you’re a good boy." Clephas lifted the boy a little before placing him in the crib he arranged. Then he went back to assist Severus in arranging the things used in bathing the child.
Severus paused for a moment, causing Clephas to give him a questioning look. "Anything the matter?" Clephas asked, folding the piece he was holding.
"I’ve been thinking, I wish the child belonged to Lady Larel," Severus said, voicing his thoughts.
Clephas nodded, "But either way, the child is still part of our family so long as he was born in the palace. We are like his... uncles."
This brought a smile to Severus’s lips, "I know, right? And I also wish for the princess to finally get married to Lord Nix. That way, nobody would ever dare to lay fingers on her. They are being attacked like this because the throne is empty." The elderly man sighed.
"That is true. Lord Hieron has decided to hasten the process; I think after they come back, there would definitely be a wedding." Clephas couldn’t help but smile at the thought of the princess getting married to the grandson of Lord Hieron.
At the entrance of the palace, Hieron stood outside waiting for his grandson and everyone else to return. For some reason, he felt very uneasy and he couldn’t pinpoint what it was that made him uncomfortable.
"Lord Hieron, as instructed, more guards have been placed at every part of the palace. And also the prison." Chantal reported dutifully, with his head bowed. Lord Nix had asked him to stay behind and assist his grandfather. But for some reason, the man had refused to go to bed.
Hieron nodded, "Good, make sure the guards stay awake. And put extra guards at the inner palace. We should stay awake and wait for Nix to return." The man said in a low voice.
Chantal bowed and walked back into the palace to carry out his duty. It was really going to be a long night for all of them.
Along the entrance of Morado, a foreign carriage with troops of soldiers strolled into the kingdom. Inside the carriage, two persons sat in the company of each other.
"How long until we get to the palace?" Venantius asked, looking at the woman beside him.
Almaria curled her lips, "Almost. We would get there soon." She tapped her fingers on her lap. Her body hummed in excitement; she wanted to see the look on Kitanna’s face when she realizes that the throne has been taken from her.
Venantius sighed, "That was what you said when the sun was out in the sky, grinning. Now the moon is overhead and you still say soon. My men need to rest for them to perform well." The man pushed himself up from his chair, leaning towards the carriage window.
Almaria fisted her hands in annoyance; this was not what she wanted. Any more delay might leave them at a disadvantage. She sighed, annoyed at the man sitting with her, but she wasn’t going to let it show.
"You’re the supreme King; what are you afraid of? You don’t even need to rest to take them down." She moved closer to him, rubbing her hands on his chest.
Venantius looked at the woman who was touching him seductively. "That’s the more reason we should rest. Let’s have a little fun before we go to the palace, hm?" He leaned closer, bringing his face forward, but then the woman moved back.
Almaria held her chest as if feeling sad. "You promised to help me; now you want to back away. There are enough days for us to have fun and celebrate. Let me get my son and grandson out of that hole first and reclaim our rightful position, then I can enjoy all the time with you. Do you know what it feels like to be separated from your child? I bet you won’t know." She played the victim card, allowing tears to stream down her eyes.
Venantius dropped his hand which was still hanging in the air. He stared at the woman for a moment before opening the carriage curtain a little.
"Dominique!" He called his right-hand man, who was riding on a horse.
"Supreme king," the man bowed alert as an eagle.
"You go ahead with the lady; take a few of our capable men with you. I’ll come later." The supreme king ordered, getting a pleasant smile from Almaria.
Almaria got down from the carriage, mounting a horse that was made ready for her. She left with Dominique and a few men, making her way to the palace.
Back at the prison in the palace, Misam and Khelan sat on the floor like people who have been forgotten. Nobody bothered them anymore; it was like they didn’t exist, and their own Chapter was already closed. The door to the prison entrance opened, and this called their attention.
"Khelan?" The voice was one Misam and Khelan were familiar with.
"Mother?" Khelan asked to be sure he was not hearing things.
"Quickly, unchain him." Almaria ordered, as her son was removed from his shackles. Khelan rushed and embraced her, almost crying.
"I knew you will come for me. I never doubted you for a day." Khelan held his mother closely.
Almaria touched her son’s face, "I know that, where is your son?" She asked.
Khelan shook his head, "I don’t know but he should be with Bareea inside the main palace." He replied.
"Let’s go then." Almaria started leaving the prison, but she was stopped in her tracks when she heard someone speak.
Misam let out a dry chuckle, "What about Lady Deonisia?" She asked, even though she could guess that something had happened.
Almaria tilted her head, turning to face the young woman she said, "If you want to be saved, then go ahead and beg me. It’s not that hard." She remarked, as the corner of her lips curled.
Misam sat back on the prison floor. "It makes no difference, you had no intention of setting me free. Of course, I’m of no use to you anymore seeing that you came back boldly means you have gotten what you wanted." The young woman exhaled quietly.
"Quick-witted, I must say. Enjoy your stay here for a little while. I want my son to rule without vermins like you around him." Almaria spat before stepping outside the prison.
"Attack!! Attack!!! The palace is under attack!!" A guard shouted, but before he could run back to alert others, someone struck him down with a knife.
"Lady Almaria, we are set, give us your order." Dominique bowed to the woman.
Almaria, feeling the reins of power return to her hands, raised her shoulder once again. She scanned the whole of the palace and smiled.
"Son? Where do you suggest we start from?"
