Chapter 742: Chapter 347 Decision
After completing the defense task, Lin Meng went to the airport, walking there.
An hour later, Lin Meng’s voice came through the earpiece, "There are several types of vehicles to choose from. Sedan, SUV, sports car, pickup, jeep, ambulance, station wagon, detection vehicle, Beetle."
Stone: "Sports car."
"Uncle, I can’t afford a sports car."
Stone couldn’t help but laugh and cry: "What car can you afford?"
Lin Meng: "Any of the other vehicles except the sports car."
Stone was speechless.
Maya: "Pickup." It has a high chassis, it can carry things, and it can transport horses.
Stone objected: "We already have a pickup." Pickups are too boring.
The debate over the vehicle was confined to Maya and Stone. As an experienced driver, and possibly one who might need to make a long-distance trip to Left County, Stone was picky about the model of the car.
With no other choice, Lin Meng explained one by one. Sedans are fuel-efficient, but have a low chassis that can get damaged and lose durability. SUVs offer good driver visibility, but are less comfortable and have higher fuel consumption than sedans. Pickups have strong transportation capacity, consume slightly more fuel than SUVs, and adapt well to terrain. Jeeps have off-road capability, with fuel consumption depending on the terrain. Ambulances are difficult to operate, but have space. Station wagons can carry a lot and are fuel-efficient. Detection vehicles are similar to sedans but have an additional function to detect nearby zombies. Beetles are not easy to flip over.
After listening to Lin Meng’s descriptions, Stone and Maya, after a heated discussion, both compromised and chose the jeep.
When Lin Meng drove the jeep to Shadow, Shadow held a meeting. As winter was approaching, a trip to Left County was necessary. As for what matters to handle in Left County, that was the subject of this meeting.
The first item on the agenda: Repeating Crossbow, Outpost Card.
Stone said, "Both items should be in Starlight’s hands; I can make a trip and should be able to bring them back."
The first item ended.
The second item on the agenda: Recruitment.
This item was more controversial. The recruitment targets, other than Starlight and Little Knife’s groups, included backup personnel from Angel’s Alliance. Moreover, North Town had two other player gathering points, but it was unclear how many would remain in Hardcore Mode after the train event.
The main discussants for this matter were Shana and Stone. As HR, Stone did not want to recruit former members. Shana believed that old members, compared to newcomers, had better cohesion and did not require a settling-in period.
In the end, Stone set the tone: "I’ll see to it when the time comes."
The third item on the agenda: Departure time.
After Lin Meng bought the jeep, he was left with 500 points, enough to buy five containers totaling 30 liters of fuel, with another 10 liters in stock. Calculating a fuel consumption of 12 liters per 100 kilometers for the jeep on the highway, a 500-kilometer round trip would require 60 liters of fuel. Including the trip to Angel’s Alliance and additional wastage, 70 liters of fuel would be needed. Therefore, a targeted fuel scavenging was necessary for the next day.
The last item was trade; since they were going to Angel’s Alliance, trade was inevitable. Maya and Shana listed the materials the base needed and then the inventory of materials the base could sell. Since Stone and Lin Wu were not sensitive to prices, Shana would accompany them on the trip.
After the agenda, Shana reminded Stone that Snow Egg possessed Infrastructure Skills and could produce one building material and one container of fuel every day.
Lin Wu, who had been quiet, raised his hand to speak: "We need to find a Blood Heart; with a Blood Heart, we have Serum, and with Serum, we can establish a trade shop to engage in system trades."
Maya asked, "Do any of you remember seeing a Blood Heart nearby?"
After a moment of recollection, everyone said, "No." Whether on Highway 77 or Highway 99, they had not seen a Blood Heart along the way.
Lin Meng raised his hand: "I saw Blood Mist when I was on the plane, during the landing process."
"Where?"
Lin Meng thought for a long time: "I don’t know, I don’t know how to describe it."
Shana understood Lin Meng and took out paper to draw a map of the surrounding terrain. Leimeng Town was bordered by passes on three sides and the sea on one, with the three passes corresponding to Highways 77, 88, and 99.
As soon as the map was drawn, Lin Meng pointed near Highway 77, "Here, roughly this location."
Maya recalled: "There’s a gravel path 5 kilometers away from the pass on Highway 77, and I remember the sign saying Deer Farming Base."
Maya instantly felt that there was not enough time or manpower. The date was the 19th, and there were plans to send three people to Left County. Someone needed to be arranged to scavenge for building materials. Someone needed to be arranged to cut for Serum. These three tasks could not be done simultaneously, as someone needed to be arranged to keep watch at the base in case of an attack by Fortress agents.
The most important was Lin Wu’s arrangement. Maya proposed: "Lin Wu should not go to Left County but stay at the base to scavenge for building materials and hurry to get the farmland built. With him present, drones can effectively defend and strike against Fortress agents who may appear at any time."
Stone said, "It’s fine if Lin Wu doesn’t go, but you have to. Choose one."
Shana offered a suggestion: "Search for fuel on the 20th, go to Left County on the 21st, and return the same day. Assuming recruitment is successful, on the 22nd and 23rd, Lin Wu, Maya, and one or two other people can go to the breeding base to farm for Blood Heart and also cut down trees for building materials. Return by the night of the 23rd because the 24th might be when the event starts, and after the event ends, a lengthy winter will set in."
Leimeng Town had fuel and building materials, but also zombies, especially many indoors. To scavenge, they must first eliminate indoor zombies. Given the scarcity of medical resources, prioritizing safety over efficiency was necessary when fighting zombies, naturally making the process slower. Moreover, the zombies’ impact and the lack of light indoors meant that no scavenging excursions were arranged at night.
