Chapter 693: Chapter 327 Angel_2
"Invincible" entry is effective against severe fractures, allowing for self-healing, if you’re willing.
After the diagnosis and treatment, Maya noticed that Lin Wu’s expression kept changing and asked, "What’s wrong?"
"I don’t know if it’s good or bad," Lin Wu chuckled mischievously, "But I know it’s definitely bad news for you."
Throughout the hospitalization, just daily checks by the doctor were needed, no need for constant accompaniment, meaning Maya could go out and get things done. All facilities were damaged by 50%, requiring quite a bit of building materials for repairs. To get building materials, trees needed to be chopped, and tools were required for chopping trees. Although patients could stroll within the safe zone, they couldn’t craft tools and even their skills were grayed out. Therefore, Maya had to deal with everything herself.
"It’s okay."
Maya’s casual attitude instantly made Lin Wu feel it was all a bit pointless and he reminded her, "Remember to cook, the patient needs nutrition," with a demeanor that said, if you don’t smack me, I won’t be at ease.
"Got it, rest up," Maya said as she went out to get to work.
Since the previous night, Maya had sensed that Lin Wu was feeling down and restless, but he was still trying hard to control himself. Nevertheless, Lin Wu always showed his best side, never uttering a word of complaint.
...
During the two days Lin Wu was injured, the weather was quite nice. Perhaps due to the good weather, Maya got a lot of work done. First were the building materials; there were trees all around, ripe for the chopping. Maya chopped 50 units of materials to repair the tents, then another 50 units to stockpile. Following that, Maya went head-to-head with a boar, chased it to its lair, got stabbed by the boar’s desperate counter-attack which left her with five holes, and ended up with only one kilogram of meat.
Meanwhile, Lin Wu was responsible for eating and sleeping. No help for it, some people are born to toil while others are born lucky.
By 10 a.m. on the third day, Lin Wu’s injuries had healed, an awkward time indeed. Packing up the tent would mean it’d be near evening when they finished. So they delayed another day. However, the haul from that day was quite bountiful, especially the game. With Wai and the high attributes’ help, Lin Wu brought back 50 kilograms of meat in three trips. It wasn’t that Lin Wu was particularly industrious, but rather the resources were so plentiful. Mere dozens of meters of walking could lead to an encounter with a wild boar.
Maya didn’t encounter wild boars? Of course not, she just couldn’t catch up. To be honest, the number of animals she could catch was countable on one hand, and those that she could catch weren’t exactly meaty.
At midnight on the third day, they packed up the tent, and less than five minutes after the command was issued, it started to rain. Instantly furious, Lin Wu pointed at the dark sky and cursed nonstop for a minute. After venting, he felt much better and returned to the tent to warm up by the fire: "It’s quite relieving, don’t you want to try?"
"I’m not under any pressure."
"Denying you have pressure is pressure itself."
Maya earnestly replied, "It’s just a minor issue, it won’t cause me any stress. Thanks for the concern."
At 6 a.m. on the fourth day, the tent was completely packed up, and the sky was still drizzling. The rain, neither too heavy nor too light, was just uncomfortable. Advancing became increasingly difficult, with various plants and thorns growing as tall as people. Maya cleared the path with her stone knife, hacking away, while Lin Wu, leading the horse behind her, was apprehensive that they might have to camp in the rain again that night.
At four in the afternoon, to their surprise, they found a logging camp built within the rainforest. The camp had two main buildings: a warehouse and living quarters. Besides that, there was also a descending road. Lin Wu sent out his drone for reconnaissance and returned with bad news; about ten kilometers down the road was an urban road.
The logging camp had quite a few zombies, but their numbers were too sparse to be a match for Lin Ma. After clearing out the zombies, Lin Ma occupied a room in the living quarters. To avoid being ambushed by zombies at night, Maya dismantled the tent base and set up Temporary Base 1.
Although they couldn’t form an alliance, with Maya around, Lin Wu didn’t need to keep watch at night.
After establishing the base, Lin Ma searched the warehouse and unexpectedly found a paper map of Fantasy City stuck on the wall. The general situation was similar to what Maya had conjectured; by traversing the entire rainforest, they could reach the western side of Fantasy City. However, the map didn’t mark highway 88 or show any other roads outside the city.
Maya’s finger moved across the map, "If we follow the forest protection road in an arc, and roughly estimate according to the scale of the map, there’s about 70-75 kilometers left. But this forest protection road isn’t very good."
The forest protection road was indeed good, but it was meant for forest patrols, not for optimizing travel. Taking the forest protection road, they might not make it out in ten days, and they’d also have to cross a mountain range. Maya sketched out a new route that made optimum use of the forest protection road; although it added over twenty kilometers to their journey, it would greatly speed up their progress.
Lin Wu had only one thing to say, "As long as we can leave this damned place sooner."
Maya asked, "If you were allowed to use a jinx once, what would you say?"
"Why would you ask for such a thing?"
Maya: "I just want to know if you’ve angered Dawn. If you really have, then I must find a way to eliminate it." This was her mission.
"You’re overthinking it," Lin Wu hadn’t expected Maya to worry about this. Seeing Maya’s resolute expression, Lin Wu dared not speak carelessly. What if his words brought rain, and it actually rained? He had to mention a scenario that was both unlikely to occur and would cause minimal harm. After pondering for a long time, Lin Wu said, "We might encounter robbers."
"Be serious." The probability of encountering robbers here was even smaller than being killed by a meteorite.
"Don’t move, this is a robbery."
They turned around to see a woman dressed in a straw raincoat and wearing a homemade conical hat, holding an old-fashioned shotgun about ten meters away from them.
Maya could confirm the fear in Lin Wu’s eyes was not feigned. Anyone who knew that Dawn, the guardian of Blue Star for a thousand years, had emotions couldn’t escape fear.
Maya, with a calm demeanor, asked, "A player?"
"Yes, put your guns on the ground." The woman’s hands were steady.
Maya kicked Lin Wu, "She’s a player."
"A player?" Lin Wu’s shattered worldview was instantly mended. Robbing as a player and an NPC were two different things. Annoyed and embarrassed, Lin Wu shot back, "Leave the gun, dance for me, or you’ll regret living." Damn it, the nerve to rob with a broken shotgun.
Maya said, "Miss, we don’t want to kill because there are too few people as it is. Just look around you."
The woman glanced to the side and saw a Hunting Dog standing on a table a meter away, its body tensed and ready to pounce.
Maya continued: "You’ve got a Sawed-off Shotgun, its lethality is only up to 5 meters. Forget that there are two of us, even if it were just one, you’d be the one dying in a fight."
Lin Wu moved swiftly to the side, taking cover after a couple of quick moves, while the woman didn’t fire her gun. When Lin Wu was out of sight, the woman retreated with her gun aimed, "Don’t move, I will shoot."
Lin Wu whistled, and Phantom charged from the living quarters into the warehouse. The Phantom didn’t notice the person ahead in time to avoid a collision and ran directly into her. By the time the woman recovered from her sprawling fall, she was already under control.
Maya maintained a gentle tone: "We mean no harm."
The woman got up, keeping her distance from Maya, and after looking her over for a while, said, "I recognize you."
Maya, surprised, responded, "Do you?"
"Orient Express," the woman said. "Angel number, we fought the Spider Train together."
"You?"
"I’m called Angel."
Unlike most people, when the server chaos erupted, Angel didn’t follow the road and escape to the countryside according to the road signs. Instead, she led a group of people into this rainforest.
In the non-Hardcore Mode phase, they independently explored the game and occupied a mobile three-story house at an experimental site about five kilometers away from here.
The experimental site was affiliated with Fantasy University and was used for physical experiments. Using their numerical advantage, they began infiltrating the university town from the back mountain. Exploiting the early-stage zombies for being singular in type and less in number, they not only secured a great deal of supplies, but also occupied the library near the back mountain. However, their lack of weapons prevented further advancement.
The experimental site had complete fencing due to frequently conducted hazardous experiments, and in the non-Hardcore Mode, it helped them actively survive. Upon entering Hardcore Mode, their survival capabilities were further strengthened, and with the few points they earned in the Waste City events, they also obtained a batch of weapons and ammunition.
After introducing herself, Angel went to the map and pointed out several dangerous spots. Having survived in the rainforest for over a year, she knew it like the back of her hand.
Upon learning that Lin Ma had settled here, Angel left the location of her base on the map and invited them to visit as guests. During the conversation, Angel mentioned several times how the Orient Express had helped them during events.
