Chapter 692: Chapter 327 Angel

Only by this time did Lin Wu remember to check the time—it was only 9 PM. Damn it, how was he going to get through this endless long night? His mind drifted, and as he went downhill, he slipped. Relying on his agile reflexes, Lin Wu grabbed a tree trunk with his left hand and executed a backflip landing right where he was. Wow! Wasn’t that cool?

He looked around and didn’t see Maya, so he said to the sidekick beside him, "Nod."

Wai immediately nodded, and Lin Wu, relieved, picked up Wai: "At least you know what’s good."

Upon returning to the vicinity of the tent, the stream had noticeably risen. Lin Wu said to Maya, who was tending to the smokehouse, "You go and rest in the tent for a bit."

Maya didn’t respond but came over to Lin Wu, watching the stream, and asked, "Is it very difficult?"

"It’s okay," Lin Wu said. "Just a bit irritable."

Maya replied, "Take it as a form of practice. If we’re not afraid of death, what else is there to fear?"

"Easy for you to say!"

"It’s better than saying something unpleasant. Pleasant or unpleasant, we still have to get through the days."

Lin Wu was somewhat surprised: "I didn’t expect you to understand life too."

"Encouraging oneself and one’s comrades is a skill we must learn. Since we can’t change the environment, then we must adapt to it," Maya switched gears and said, "The rain is still falling, and the tent getting flooded is inevitable. Now we can only pray that there won’t be any flash floods."

"Ever seen a flash flood?"

"No, I’ve heard they’re terrifying."

"If I could witness a flash flood firsthand, would that count as an experience?"

Maya: "I underestimated you."

"Hm?" That comment felt good.

"The flash flood hasn’t even started, and you’re already comforting yourself," Maya said. "You have a positive mindset. Even in the worst situations, you can find a reason to comfort yourself. There’s no need to stay here. We can do nothing about it. Let’s go inside."

The campfire was like a pearl in the night, bringing hope to people. Watching the fire and listening to the noises outside, Lin Ma didn’t chitchat but just quietly waited—waiting for either the flood to destroy the tent or manage to pack it up successfully.

By 11 PM, four hours before the tent could be packed up, the stream had reached the entrance of the tent. The lightning outside grew fiercer, and the downpour showed no sign of weakening. A log, carried downstream, hit the tent, then was swept away by the current; the tent’s durability blinked, dropping to 99.5%.

A few minutes later, the stream seeped into the tent, and its durability dropped to 98%.

Maya went out to rescue all the smoked meat and, upon returning to the tent, said, "People first, retreat."

Lin Wu replied with resentment and helplessness, "If it floods my tent today, I’ll burn down the whole mountain tomorrow."

"I’ll help you with the fire. Let’s get going," Maya patted Lin Wu’s shoulder comfortingly, and the two of them waded out of the tent. With the help of previously placed ropes, they easily climbed up the hillock to Phantom and Sandstorm’s place. From seven meters below, occasional flashes of lightning gave Lin Wu a clearer view of his tent gradually being swallowed by the water.

At 1 AM, the situation had not improved; half of the tent was submerged, and its durability had fallen to 80%. But there was good news: the riverbed had widened enough for the water to flow through, and the water level had stopped rising. As long as there were no landslides or flash floods, the tent should survive.

Lin Wu and Maya sat on the edge of the hill, using leaves to shield themselves from some of the rain. Completely drenched, their body temperatures dropping, the endless rain poured through the leaves relentlessly. In these harsh conditions, the two of them endured until 3 AM.

Lin Wu stood up to stretch his limbs. "What a pity, I didn’t get to witness the flash flood firsthand. I’ll go pack up the tent."

"Sure."

Lin Wu slid down the hillside on the rope and landed in the water, which reached his chest. This area had slow-moving water, so Lin Wu walked toward the tent through it. Touching the tent, which was at 50% durability, he suddenly felt an urge to cry. Then, through his headset, came Maya’s shout: "Lin Wu, run! The flash flood is coming!"

Instinctively, Lin Wu looked up, and with a flash of lightning, he saw the roaring flash flood with trees and rocks tumbling in the torrent. The thick mass didn’t look scary, but wherever it went, it uprooted trees and rolled boulders down with it.

Lin Wu watched the progress bar and had ten seconds to retrieve the tent. Then he turned and started swimming. A broken piece of wood, propelled by the flood, struck his back. Using this force, Lin Wu swung towards the hillside and grabbed the rope, starting to climb. A tree pushed by the flash flood aimed for Lin Wu halfway up the hill, but he held onto the rope tightly, letting the tree’s branches sweep over him.

Maya reached out to grab Lin Wu’s hand and pulled him up the hill. Lin Wu knelt on the ground and groaned, "Serious fracture, broken ribs, 60% loss of mobility."

"No problem," Maya helped Lin Wu stand up. "Get on the horse, lean on its back, and we need to find an open and safe place to set up camp."

There were no open spaces in the forest, but they could create one. Maya led the horse to a safe, flat area and began felling trees with her four stone knives and two cutting knives acquired from Lin Meng.

Because of the dense vines and shrubs, it took Maya ten minutes to clear a small area. Lin Wu couldn’t just stand by. "Step aside," he said.

After saying that, he took out Little Fight and let Phantom do a short sprint, launching Little Fight into the air. Man, horse, and dog found cover, and then two rockets fell, instantly blasting open a clear area.

At 4 AM, the tent was set up again. By 6 AM, the rain stopped, and the sun rose. By 10 AM, the tent was fully set up. For Lin Wu, there was both bad news and good news. Combined: Lin Wu was seriously injured and needed two days in the hospital. The good news was that Lin Wu needed to stay in a safe area for the next two days; the bad news was that he couldn’t leave the safe area for those two days.
