Chapter 506: Chapter 256 CLEO
Although Maya obtained two big guys today, she didn’t feel much accomplishment. The sole reason she went out of her way to bring the tugboat back home was Lin Wu’s earlier story involving Peanut and the boat. In her view, these two fuel-guzzling behemoths were not particularly strong in combat or practical.
After Stone drove the armored car back to the Shadow base, he found Su Shi and Shana for a private conversation, "Do me a favor, try to gather enough electronic components to put together Lin Wu’s personal computer."
Today was a rest day, a night for barbecues and mahjong. As the sun was about to set, the Doomsday Fortress was undertaking a thrilling draw. Maya ruled out Cotton first as this was Cotton’s first team-building activity with the Shadow group, and Cotton had to participate. Everyone accepted this without question.
Then Lin Wu suggested that Wai, too, was part of the base and should have the right to draw lots, but Maya denied it. Lin Wu hugged Wai and cried bitterly, "They don’t like you anymore."
Maya watched and, in the peripheral vision of Lin Wu’s cheating glance, she placed the broken toothpick last. She held four toothpicks, "Please draw."
Dashuang reached out, but Lin Wu was quicker to the draw, pulling out the first toothpick, then threw it away, holding Wai and bawling, "They’re bullying me." Clearly seeing it at the first place, how could it turn to the fourth? Is there no justice?
Maya couldn’t help revealing a smug little tiger tooth smile that flashed by, and she said, "Lin Wu stays, everyone else, head out."
Lin Wu pleaded with his eyes at Maya, "Please take Wai with you and let it have a couple of bones, okay?"
"Okay," Maya ignored Lin Wu’s euphemistic articulation and said, "Give me the custody rights."
"You malicious woman, I curse you to not enjoy your barbecue."
Ten minutes later, a lonely figure sat by the sentry post, knees hugged to chest, quietly watching the sunset. Thinking of them playing mahjong and feasting on barbecue, Lin Wu couldn’t stop swallowing his saliva. Damn Maya for not letting Qing prepare dinner; the more he thought about it, the hungrier he became. He hoped they would have a change of heart and pack extra for him.
...
A call came over the radio. Lin Wu stuck his head out for a look, mulled it over for a while, then leisurely walked down from the sentry post, down to the second floor, and then again towards the command center, at which point the call stopped.
Lin Wu cursed and left. Just as he climbed up to the third floor, the call started again. How could he endure it? Lin Wu rushed at top speed to the device and shouted into the walkie-talkie, "Who’s there? Speak up." Bite your food!
System: Honor Mission, protect the Fortress agents.
Two Fortress agents had been attacked by zombies while on a mission and, unfortunately, became infected with the virus. They called for help from headquarters, and now they needed a shelter to wait for the airdropped serum.
Accept the mission?
Hehe, if I can’t eat, neither will you.
Accept!
Just as he took on the mission, the system alarm immediately sounded. The electronic map showed two NPCs entering the safe zone.
So urgent? Lin Wu sweated like Huangguoshu Falls cascading down as he dashed to the dormitory area to grab guns and ammunition, then ran like mad to the infirmary to get medicine. The base was too large, and by the time Lin Wu had gathered enough supplies running north, south, east, and west, the NPCs had already reached Doomsday Fortress.
Why didn’t Lin Wu call for help? Because the mission timer was set for 10 minutes, by the time the others came back, they’d either find his corpse or zombie corpses to deal with.
The two Fortress agents, unarmed and clutching their chests, knocked on the southern gate. Lin Wu opened the door, and the leading female agent expressed her gratitude, "Brave survivor, thank you..."
Lin Wu yanked her inside and grabbed the male agent, pulling him in, "Find a place to curl up." Zombies had already started toward the base, and the edge of the safe zone was continuously flashing as zombies spawned.
Only an idiot would accept this damned honor mission.
Lin Wu fired with Silencer, causing a shriek and switched his left hand to the primary position, raised Silent Night, and headshot two zombies that ran up to him. Immediately switching to Sharp Blade and Frenzy, he tackled Frenzy after Silent Night took care of two Lock Heads, then downed two more zombies. All his moves were as smooth as flowing water, which showed not only that Lin Wu was stylish but also that the zombie density was high.
Facing the onslaught of zombies, Lin Wu entered the southern gate, shut it, and called out, "Doomsday Fortress requests artillery strike." Switching pistol bullets, Silent Night was a revolver, and reloading took twice as long.
The door was broken down by the zombies, and Lin Wu, retreating while reloading, raised his hand to headshot the approaching zombies; four zombies fell to the ground. Lin Wu bolted, switching to the Beretta as he ran. Inside the base, he trusted the gunshots wouldn’t attract ordinary zombies.
Shooting while retreating, Lin Wu didn’t go upstairs but instead circled to the southern side: "Artillery strike, give me the signal."
Maya asked, "What are you doing?"
Lin Wu had no time to answer as the screaming by the southern gate had seen him and came charging with a shrill cry. The piercing noise drilled into his brain, and Lin Wu covered his ears and retreated. But soon after, Lin Wu received the signal: High ground heavy artillery was ready.
Lin Wu immediately went upstairs, slid quickly to the third floor, and from there, he slid down a rope to the ground outside the southern gate. He didn’t know how many zombies had gotten into the Fortress; as long as they didn’t eat Qing, it was fine. There were many zombies outside too, and Lin Wu emptied two magazines to clear a bloody path before deciding to jump into the sea to escape.
The zombies had scrambled brains. They showed no interest in the agents and instead all gathered along the seawall path, following Lin Wu’s movements. Judging by the number of zombies, Lin Wu knew if he dared to climb up, he would instantly be torn apart into 108 pieces. The seawater was cold. The weight of his backpack was substantial; Lin Wu didn’t know how long he could hold on.
