Chapter 507: Chapter 256 CLEO_2
Throw a smoke bomb? No, throwing a smoke bomb now would surely sweep me away with the heavy artillery. A major flaw in Doomsday Fortress was exposed—although Zombies are easy to defend against but hard to attack, it was equally difficult for defenders to escape. Swimming a hundred meters in the sea and in a lake were entirely different concepts. The ceaseless onslaught of seawater suffocated me as it filled my nostrils and throat, creating a highly uncomfortable sensation.
Lin Wu was at the junction of the sea and river. When the tide rose, the sea water would flow backward into the area, turning it into the sea. With the ebb tide, the river gained the upper hand, and it became a river again.
Lin Wu dived and sneaked out from under the towboat at the bottom of the water, then swiftly climbed aboard the ship. Zombies were tumbling down from Shanghai Dike Road, starting to climb the sides of the ship. Lin Wu, with his agility, entered the cockpit first. Trapped, with no way to retreat, he had no choice but to pick up a gun and eliminate the zombies that rushed in.
Before long, a small mountain of zombie carcasses had piled up at the cockpit door, significantly reducing the attacking force of the Zombies, yet they still pressed on toward the cockpit. This led to the corpses being squeezed into the cockpit, filling it to the brink. Although Lin Wu was packed in to the point of nausea, the bodies provided him some protection, allowing him to hold on.
Even so, zombies continued to reach through the gaps between the bodies, groping for Lin Wu. The dry and flaky zombie bodies left substantial spaces in between, resulting in Lin Wu getting a firm touch. Fortunately, it was just a touch. Seeing this, Lin Wu couldn’t afford to idle; he used his body to block the corpses, creating enough space for his hands to continue unlocking Lock Head. As long as Lin Wu could see a zombie, Lock Head would instantly activate, and upon pulling the trigger, the bullet would follow an unbelievable, devilish, and inconceivable trajectory to blow the zombie’s head off.
The more corpses there were, the safer Lin Wu became. Relying on the bodies, Lin Wu managed to hold out until the task was completed, and the sense of pressure suddenly eased. Lin Wu started digging his way out, pushing and wriggling until he finally squeezed through to the outer layer, where he put his mouth and nose in the gaps between the corpses and inhaled a breath of fresh air. After a greedy gasp, Lin Wu continued to wriggle out and finally emerged from the cockpit.
However, while the task-specific zombies had left, those drawn by the noise still lingered on Shanghai Dike Road. Lin Wu didn’t disembark, instead, he picked up a handgun and began a killing spree. These disorderly and undisciplined zombies had no specific target, and since Lin Wu used only Silent Night, they couldn’t hear the gunfire and fell one by one to his shots.
After clearing an area, Lin Wu climbed up onto Shanghai Dike Road, where about a dozen zombies remained. He reloaded and kept killing. Having already spent so many bullets, what were a few more? Deep in debt, one can hardly be overwhelmed by a feather.
When the last zombie fell, Maya and the others had also returned, with Shana Team in tow. Everyone looked at the corpses on the ship and the sea, then at Lin Wu standing in the middle of the road, holding a dagger, and were utterly amazed.
As if! No one believed this guy could have killed so many Zombies with a dagger. Realizing this, Maya’s heart almost stopped. She forced herself to remain calm and approached Lin Wu, "Are you okay?"
Lin Wu held the dagger up to his forehead, carefully examining the blade, and said softly, "I’m fine, but they’re another story."
Maya asked, "How many handgun bullets left?"
Lin Wu replied, "21 rounds."
Maya’s mental state collapsed. The stockpile of 200 handgun bullets had dwindled by 179 in just this small effort. Most infuriatingly, she could not only not blame him but had to praise, "Well done, I’m glad you’re still alive."
"So am I," Lin Wu called out to everyone, "While the tide is out, help me throw the bodies overboard."
Shana also directed her team, "Let’s all lend a hand. Search only the Mutant Zombies, and throw all the other bodies into the sea."
Cotton and Dashuang stayed to help, while Maya stormed back into the base, thinking, Can’t slash Lin Wu, but can’t I slash you two NPCs?
Lin Wu certainly didn’t want to labor and followed Maya, fanning the flames as they walked, "You know, I’ve never had a good feeling about NPCs, wasting so many bullets to save them. If there’s no fighter jet as a reward, we’ll cut them down immediately."
Since Maya couldn’t blame Lin Wu, she had no choice but to agree with his comment about NPCs being jerks. Yet, within a minute, Maya’s attitude made a 540-degree turn.
Task reward: 200 Honor Points, CLEO Construction Blueprint.
CLEO, abbreviated as C, commonly known as Airdrop. Once constructed, it uses 100 Honor Points to summon an airdrop, with a cooldown time of 24 hours. Airdrop supplies and quantities are random. The airdrop activation time is 10 minutes, during which it will make a huge noise, provoking an Airdrop Siege.
Airdrops have a maximum of five-star levels; the higher the level called, the stronger the Zombies’ siege intensity. A one-star guarantee includes 5 kilograms of food. A two-star guarantees 7 kilograms of food and some bullets. A three-star guarantees 7 kilograms of food, some bullets, and at least one firearm. A four-star guarantees 10 kilograms of food, some bullets, and at least one firearm. A five-star guarantees 10 kilograms of food, some bullets, at least one firearm, and one vehicle.
Construction conditions: 50 building materials, large grid.
Since only building materials remained as a fundamental resource, their cost had remained high, and dismantling structures could only recover 50% of the materials. Of course, the system had also unlocked building material storage, allowing an unlimited accumulation of materials.
Doomsday Fortress had two large grids, one of which had been turned into an outpost, and the other was always vacant. Should I build the airdrop area there? Although game pioneers could take the first steps into the unknown, they also faced constant decisions. Without any reference materials and with no one knowing the intensity of the siege, it was a gamble.
