Chapter 450: Chapter 234: Container Fortress
With the mission complete, the chief engineer began to babble about the A1 laboratory’s situation, which Lin Wu and his team had already understood to a degree. According to the chief engineer, Fortress Company internally admitted that it was impossible to completely eliminate the zombie virus in the short term and thus were preparing to launch the Noah’s Ark Project, aiming to send healthy humans to an extraterrestrial planet.
Currently, Fortress Company in the isolation safe zone is collaborating with the official authorities of the safe zone and has already drafted an immigration list. The task at hand is to extract as much Serum as possible before the safe zone is overrun by the virus. In addition, the DNA preservation work of various plants and animals is also proceeding methodically. This plan already signifies humanity’s surrender to the zombie virus.
Maya asked the chief engineer, "Where is the source of the virus?"
The chief engineer replied, "Perhaps you can find the answer in the A2 and A3 laboratories."
The secret mission was completed, completion rate 30%, and they received a blue treasure chest. Without any fuss, Maya opened the treasure chest and obtained an Outpost Card. Admiration gleamed in Lin Wu’s eyes as Maya walked away, her face untouched by emotion, yet she felt delight in her heart. The feeling of showing off was truly exhilarating.
The two headed back the way they came, returned to the parking lot of the Tomorrow Building the day after tomorrow, used the stairs to reach the second floor, turned to the second-floor hangar of the Tomorrow Building, and finally, through the sky bridge, arrived at the entrance of Sewer No. 99. It was while crossing the sky bridge that Lin Wu halted, "I was dazzled by something."
"Hmm?"
Lin Wu took a step back to look at the side and sure enough, there was a reflection of sunlight right at eye level. Lin Wu lowered his head and raised the Silencer to look, "About 100 meters away, there’s a piece of metal."
"A piece of metal?" Maya pushed Lin Wu aside to take a look through the scope, chuckling at her own uncharacteristically rough behavior. Usually, she wouldn’t be this crude. Upon closer inspection, Maya confirmed it was silver-white metal, but definitely not just a piece of metal, it looked more like the body of a car. Because of where it was parked, only a small part was visible. Maya said, "A car."
"What car?" Lin Wu mounted the Silencer on Maya’s shoulder.
After observing for a moment, Maya said, "Don’t know, but I do know that there are a lot of zombies nearby."
Lin Wu said, "It’s too early to head back now."
Maya suggested, "Let’s go take a look."
In agreement, Lin Wu went into Stealth mode for silent assassinations, while Maya shot rapidly with her Repeating Crossbow, carefully avoiding the Titans and trying not to provoke any Frenzy. The density of zombies on the road was much lower, and the two followed the highway to the vicinity of the silver metal.
There was a car, a vehicle covered in a car cover with a rip through which sunshine reflected. Lin Wu yanked off the cover as Lin Ma simultaneously cried out in surprise.
It was a brand-new two-seater silver-white convertible sports car, and also the first luxury car they had encountered since entering the game. Not only the body but even the contours shimmered with a technological luster. Maya touched and knocked on the car body, discovering that the material was neither plastic nor ordinary metal, but a high-tech alloy.
Without saying a word, both of them climbed into the car. Driver Maya didn’t start the car, "We need a key."
Lin Wu remembered, "Key, Star of the Highway?"
Maya clapped her hands, that’s right, Star of the Highway. During the winter, they had explored Left County and had retrieved quite a bit of information from special zombies. Among those were clues about Shuixi Middle School, and then there was a car key. This was a rare occurrence as most of the usable vehicles had their keys nearby or didn’t need one at all. Better cars usually had their keys on the zombies close to them. The Star of the Highway’s key was found in Shuidong of Left County, while the vehicle itself was in Shuixi.
Maya read out the vehicle information, "Star of the Highway, two-person capacity, trunk with 6 compartments. Top speed of 400 kilometers per hour, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. System notification, hmm! Basically, it means the so-called Star of the Highway is quite suitable for highways."
Lin Wu got out of the car, "Let’s get the key."
Lin Ma ran back to the base energetically, rummaging in the storeroom. Stone saw the two of them, took a teapot and shouted from the side, "Finished so early? Go chop some wood."
The two of Lin Ma stealthily ran off, while Stone cursed behind their backs, with his words, of course, aimed at Lin Wu.
No key insertion was necessary; the car unlocked as it sensed the key when they sat in the driver’s seat. Maya started the car, and the engine’s sound was deep, hinting at power, like a giant taking a deep breath, readying its strongest skill. They released the electronic parking brake, lightly tapped on the gas pedal, the tachometer immediately jumped, and the car shot forward.
"Whoa!" Both exclaimed in unison.
As the car swerved onto the road, a roadside zombie started running, ready to leap onto the hood. Maya floored the accelerator, and the Star of the Highway sped off like an arrow, the zombie failing to grasp the hood or even touch the car, instead tumbling onto the road, inadvertently sucking in a breath of fresh car exhaust fumes.
Seeing the zombie’s clumsy figure in the rearview mirror, Maya excitedly said, "As long as you’re fast enough, you can go anywhere unimpeded."
This wasn’t a joke. The Star of the Highway had excellent handling; Maya treated all the zombies on the road as immovable obstacles, her hands artfully maneuvering the steering wheel as the car continuously swerved and changed speeds from side to side.
The Titan had just turned around when a gust of wind blew past it. When it turned back, it found nothing behind it. As it looked forward again, all it could see were the car’s taillights.
"Slow down... sister, slow down." Lin Wu tightly gripped the handle, aware of the car’s speed, yet not expecting Maya to have such a childish side. Couldn’t you maintain your composure?
