Chapter 425: Chapter 223: Night Raid_3
Lin Wu first sent Nightmare into the vegetable garden and then climbed up the water tower to find a suitable position to lie down and set up the Silencer. Lin Wu was facing the south side of the train station’s Platform 1, the boarding area for passengers, with 80% of the waiting hall within his shooting range.
Using the cover of night and her nocturnal outfit, Nightmare crawled through a hollow in the middle of two rows of vegetables until she reached a position about 10 meters from the train station. The 10 meters ahead was open ground with no cover; bolting out would simply make her a target. Nightmare put her hope in Lin Wu and Maya, the two snipers.
A zombie that had entered the 15-meter range of the train station and was located to the south was taken down with a shot to the head. This meant the enemy was directly opposite Lin Wu. Through his scope, Lin Wu searched carefully. It was a simple waiting hall with rows of benches on each side and a counter to the north. Exiting the south side of the waiting hall was Platform 1; further south were two tracks, and then Platform 2.
Maya: "Do you see them?"
Lin Wu: "No."
Maya said, "I guess they have installed silencers and flash suppressors on their muzzle."
Lin Wu said, "Can’t find their position at all."
Maya said, "Without the benefit of game skills, we should be able to find them. Pay more attention to the window sills on the left and right sides of the south gate." The waiting hall wasn’t completely open; there were walls on each side of the door leading to the platform, with two windows set into each wall. Old, tattered sunshades covered the windows, preventing Lin Ma from seeing inside these areas.
A little while later, Maya said, "Nightmare, move laterally towards the reed cluster at your nine o’clock and make some noise."
Nightmare: "Aren’t you going to add ’be careful’?"
Maya: "Adding it or not doesn’t change whether you’re meant to die."
Lin Wu gave his approval: "You really have a way with words."
"I’m going." Nightmare suddenly stood up and ran toward the reed cluster two meters to her left, advancing swiftly, occasionally touching the reeds to create sounds.
Lin Wu: "Get down."
Nightmare got down just as a bullet snapped several reeds and flew over her head. The scene then fell into a deathly silence.
Lin Wu, who was on the left side of the center of the waiting hall, saw the barrel of the gun peeking out from the right side of the waiting hall and reported, "Right side, the enemy is about two meters from the wall."
Maya asked, "They’re not right up against the wall?"
"No." A sniper could observe the outside and take down zombies through the windows, but those outside couldn’t see him through the windows.
Maya said, "He has a certain flexibility in his movements. Even if Nightmare manages to sneak into the waiting hall, he might preempt her."
The door leading to the waiting hall from the work area on the west side of the train station opened, and an Alliance soldier walked into Lin Wu’s shooting range. He spoke a few words towards the right side of the wall and then lifted his assault rifle. Lowering his helmet’s built-in night vision, he checked out the situation outside.
Lin Wu: "Their equipment is better than ours."
Maya said, "As long as you don’t move around, he can’t break your stealth. Nightmare, don’t move. Just lie in the root of the reed cluster."
The soldier fired at the reed cluster, the bullets scattering reeds every which way. Nightmare had no choice but to cover her head and wait for the firing to stop.
Lin Wu: "Should we take him out?"
Maya: "No, the sniper is just suspicious of someone outside. If we kill the soldier, it means there’s definitely an enemy outside. It would not only spook them but also make it harder to ambush the sniper and draw out their armed personnel. Look at the top of the train station; there are four spotlights there."
Maya added, "At least until we get the information on the shelter’s entrance, we shouldn’t alarm them."
Lin Wu said, "If Dawn speaks the truth, the sniper should switch posts."
Maya said, "An excellent sniper can lie in the same spot for days on end without moving. Nightmare, can you get around?"
Nightmare replied, "The eastern entrance is completely sealed. The only entrance is on the south platform. What can the drone see?"
Lin Wu said, "Let me check."
The drone took off and hovered in the sky without discovering anything. Lin Wu brought the drone down lower, approaching the railway tracks. Then a system warning: the drone was experiencing signal interference and was on the verge of losing control. Lin Wu hurriedly directed the drone to return and informed the others of the situation.
If a drone falls, it returns to its owner, but with its body damaged, repairing it would need many electronic components.
