Chapter 424: Chapter 223 Night Raid_2
Maya asked, "Is there any light?"
"Didn’t see any."
Maya said, "Are there any good covers nearby?"
Lin Wu replied, "There are four wind power towers about 300 meters away, with a height of around 150 meters." Through the internal spiral staircase of the wind power towers, players could reach the maintenance area at the top.
Maya asked, "Do you have any cover within the shooting range of your Silencer?"
Lin Wu did not answer immediately. After searching for a while, he said, "Near the train station, there’s a vegetable garden. It’s 60 meters away, and there’s a ten-meter-high water storage tank next to the vegetable garden." This was a common water storage tank on farms, used for daily water storage, and could provide irrigation for crops during droughts.
Lin Wu said, "I don’t think the NPCs would leave the train station at random, so sniper camping isn’t very meaningful."
"That’s a Nightmare’s job. The unknown risks are too high; we can’t just go in." Nightmare could lure Alliance soldiers out or punch deep into the den herself, or yell from outside—all tasks for Nightmare. Maya asked, "Is there somewhere to park near the water storage tank?"
This required some consideration. The first scenario involved using a location where one could speed up and sprint to increase the distance from the zombies—like a highway or a smooth road. The second scenario was to utilize visual obstacles and echoes to quickly move and hide the vehicle. The third was to get out of the car immediately after parking, attract the zombies’ attention to oneself, thereby protecting the vehicle.
Lin Wu said, "The density of zombies in this area is relatively low, slightly higher than that of North Town. There are snipers." Lin Wu watched as the only zombie within 15 meters had its head blown off.
Lin Wu muttered, "Strange, the thermal didn’t pick up any people. Could the Alliance be cold-blooded animals?"
Maya said, "Firstly, your drone’s thermal sensitivity is not very high, and its penetration is weak. Secondly, thermal imaging from the 21st century struggles to penetrate thick walls. Lastly, if the other side isn’t moving much or at all, maybe they’re covered with a thermal blanket, then your drone won’t detect them."
Maya added, "We must wear a forehead guard, and if it breaks without us spotting the enemy, we must retreat immediately."
After saying this, Maya went to the command post to contact Nightmare and explain the situation. Nightmare provided a location for them to drive and pick her up. Once the plan was set, Lin Wu drove off in the pickup truck with 80% durability, Maya sitting in the back, turning off the headlights and relying on the moonlight to leave the base.
Although the moonlight was beautiful, it was still night, and the zombies’ vision was significantly impaired. Sound was secondary; the car’s noises were constantly changing, and the zombies needed some time to process and locate the source. As long as the car maintained a certain speed, it could leave the zombies behind.
The fear was the zombies that wandered aimlessly on the roads at night; they had a chance to react and use their bodies as weapons against the vehicle. To put it simply, to block the car. Crashing into a single zombie could reduce the vehicle’s durability by 2% to 10%, depending on the speed.
Titans weren’t really an issue; the car could easily shake them off. The most terrifying were Explosive Carnage, those lying in the middle of the road, sleeping. Their skin resembled some tar roads, and they particularly liked to sleep on the roads, making focused attention necessary without car lights. Hitting an Explosive Carnage almost certainly resulted in death for the passengers, especially those inside the cabin where the poison gas would linger, allowing for one full inhalation.
Lin Wu dodged an Explosive Carnage but hit an innocent zombie on the roadside. Just as the poor thing located the source of the noise and prepared to chase after the back of the car, the front of the car crashed into it. Lin Wu didn’t know if the zombie felt pain, but it pained him deeply to lose 7% durability. This was the vehicle they had to drive back, and Lin Wu took the only remaining repair kit from the base, capable of restoring 25% of the pickup’s durability.
Ahead were two zombies, with a Frenzy on the left side, running after the car. If the car slowed down or stopped, it would immediately pounce on the door. On the right were a Screamer and another zombie, plus a guardrail. Lin Wu didn’t instinctively turn the steering wheel to avoid them; he gripped the wheel tightly and hit both zombies on the road, losing another 10% durability.
A flashlight flickered at the intersection ahead, and Lin Wu slowed down to pass through the artificial shrubbery, where Nightmare climbed into the back. Maya was curious, "What kind of clothes?" Nightmare had no skills, low stats, but had Concealment ability.
"Nocturnal outfit," Nightmare said. "It provides a stealth effect when active at night."
Maya immediately thought of Lin Wu. Lin Wu’s Stealth skill had evolved into a buff, and if Lin Wu got a Nocturnal outfit, he’d be like a ghost at night. It was only then she realized how useful Peanut’s night vision ability was—not trash at all. Paired up with Lin Wu and the Nocturnal outfit, he’d indeed be a ghost in the night.
However, clothes are personal items, once worn by one person, they can’t be worn by another.
Approaching the Wind Power towers, Lin Wu first accelerated to pull away from the pursuing zombies, then braked sharply, allowing Maya to jump out and take out four zombies with her Tang Sword.
The car continued forward into a sparse zombie density area. Considering the presence of enemy snipers, Lin Wu parked earlier than necessary, in a depression. Nightmare handled a few alerted zombies, and Lin Wu pulled her into his Meteorological Station base for radio communication.
Lin Wu took point, stealthily leading the way, with Nightmare following in Stealth, using Lin Wu’s stealth coloration to protect herself. After about thirty meters, Lin Wu reached the water tank.
