Chapter 383: Chapter 207: Treasure Hunting_3

Peanut: "Sneak in?"

"That... won’t work, will it?" Didn’t know exactly why it wouldn’t work; it just felt like it wouldn’t.

Indeed, it wouldn’t work. All room windows, or balconies, were fitted with a fence similar to a burglar-proof net. It could be opened from the inside but couldn’t be breached from the outside.

"I refuse to believe we can’t find a single key in 17 rooms. Everyone go back and search every nook and cranny from the beginning to end," Maya paused, then turned her head to Lin Wu, "and by ’search every nook and cranny,’ I don’t mean literally searching the carpets, you got that?"

Lin Wu glared angrily, while Maya nodded with satisfaction and walked away, considering it revenge for almost making her burst out laughing.

After nearly another hour of searching every corner outside and flipping through each body three times, they still couldn’t find any keys.

Lin Wu started slacking after just five minutes of work. He leaned against door number 17, took out a vacuum flask from his backpack, brewed a bag of black tea, and leisurely savored the tea along with some prunes. Halfway through his drink, he turned his head to look at the lock, sensed something was off after pondering for a bit, and upon looking closer, he had an epiphany.

By the time he finished half the bag of prunes and all of the black tea, Lin Wu placed his finger on the lock, which responded, "Fingerprint mismatch."

Lin Wu exclaimed in delight, "Maya, it’s a fingerprint lock." There weren’t many hotels that used fingerprint locks, but they existed. Since the 35th floor used keycards, the players were predisposed to think along those lines.

Hotels on Blue Star tended to use Biological Locks in the early years. However, due to security concerns, they were all replaced with Biological Locks centuries ago.

Biological Locks include fingerprint and retinal identification among others. But with such systems, determined thieves might become murderers in the act of theft, severing the owner’s fingers or gouging out their eyes. Therefore, for safety reasons, Biological Locks were invented. As for how Biological Locks prevent theft, that’s a matter of science and technology thousands of years advanced, incomprehensible if explained.

Everyone, having closely observed the whole affair, paid tribute to Lin Wu with their attention. Slackers always managed to stand out so flamboyantly that people couldn’t ignore their presence. Translation: This guy had suspected it was a fingerprint lock all along but insisted on finishing his tea before testing it out, and then even acted surprised.

But the issue was the suspicion.

If Lin Wu was certain it was a fingerprint lock, not reporting it would be a crime, but Lin Wu maintained his suspicion for 20 minutes before confirming it and immediately informed everyone--it would seem rude not to thank him for his contribution.

This was revenge! Maya ignored Lin Wu’s smug look as if she hadn’t seen him at all, "Drag the bodies over here."

Shana quickly added, "Remember the approximate positions of each body, there might be clues we need."

Lin Wu asked, "Sister Maya, did you bring any hot water?"

Maya, without turning back, handed her vacuum flask over to Lin Wu, who was behind her, and he brewed some more tea. Seeing everyone busy moving the bodies, Lin Wu felt a bit guilty for not helping, so after sipping his tea for a few minutes, he asked, "Sister Maya, do you think it could be toes?" Thinking was also a contribution.

This guy was really wicked! Maya turned back and looked at Lin Wu for 3 seconds, then knocked him down with a knee. Lin Wu was prepared; he tightened the lid on his flask and curled into a ball, immune to the storm raging around him.

Shana held Maya back, asking, "Should we try toes?"

Maya combed her hair, "Don’t listen to his nonsense, it can’t be toes."

Without getting up, Lin Wu lay on the ground, drawling, "Hard to say, really."

Shana said, "You should get up and help too."

"I’m injured, beaten by Maya." His body wriggled like a shrimp, moving aside and out of the way of the working folks.

Little Knife sighed, "The bad guy wins."

Working with Little Knife to lift the bodies, Peanut said, "I also wish I could lie down, but I don’t think I have that right."
