Chapter 382: Chapter 207: Treasure Hunting_2
Maya had no intention of making friends; she carried out her duties. Although there might have been better ways to handle things, she preferred to choose the more effective ones.
On the rooftop of Left County Hotel, that broken helicopter was still there, along with a dozen soldier zombies and two Solar Demons that had respawned. After Lin Wu’s drone confirmed that the zombies were huddled together, the group paid them no mind and reopened the elevator doors, which had reset to their original state, and descended to the 34th floor.
As the first member of the team to enter the 34th floor, Lin Wu was notified by the system that the treasure hunt mission had begun, with a time limit of 5 hours. Even though they knew they had plenty of time, the countdown timer in the upper left corner still made them feel nervous.
The 35th floor had only a few rooms, but the 34th floor had 17 rooms, which were not small in size, some luxurious suites spanning over four hundred square meters. The rooms on the 34th floor were on either side with entertainment facilities such as a gym, video game room, and children’s play area in the middle, provided for free to the guests staying on the 34th floor. The entertainment facilities had no doors and were completely open.
There were quite a few zombies, but they weren’t densely packed. The zombies’ attire, height, and weight varied, indicating they were individual people rather than mass-produced zombies. This reality delivered quite the shock to the players, who had begun to treat the zombies like robots, stirring the notion that these zombies were once human.
Looking at the woman in her 40s who had been a headwaiter, even someone as heartless as Lin Wu could read into her past—a typical job, neither wealthy nor poor, perhaps with a few children.
This thought made it difficult for the players to make a move, but they had to do it anyway.
Peanut knocked down a man in a blue suit and complained, "Why design all these different, independent people?" From the man’s attire, one could guess he was a broker or manager who had come here to conduct business. One could even discern his humility in the situation.
Lin Wu had killed NPCs different from zombies long ago and had found legitimate excuses and comfort for himself: NPCs were there for looting treasures, leveling up, and gaining experience. So despite some thoughts, he didn’t hesitate when taking action.
Observing that everyone was more or less affected, they remembered that zombies were still zombies. After dealing with the zombies near the service counter, Maya asked, "Did anyone find a room key?" One special aspect of the mission area was that during the mission time, zombies would not respawn and their bodies wouldn’t disappear either.
"Got a cellphone," Little Knife said, unlocking it with the dead female zombie’s fingerprint and then using the zombie’s face to unlock the screen. Little Knife remarked, "21st-century technology is quite something, completely ignoring dark circles and grimaces."
"I came prepared, knowing that many items here in the mission area would contain information related to jewelry," Maya said as she took the cellphone, which only saved a social media chat history between the female zombie and her boyfriend. She talked about encountering a female celebrity and even taking a selfie with her. The rest was conversation content between her and her boyfriend, which included her selfie with the celebrity.
Lin Wu leaned in to look, it was a short-haired female celebrity in her forties, looked to be in her forties but probably was in her fifties? She looked very classy, definitely the career-woman type. Lin Wu said, "Didn’t see a necklace."
Shana admiringly said, "My thought when looking at the photo was to identify the celebrity’s appearance to find her room number and gather information about the people around her. Yet you noticed straight away that there was no necklace. Please, she’s wearing a high-collar sweater; how could you tell she’s not wearing a necklace?"
Lin Wu quibbled, "I said I didn’t see a necklace, not that she wasn’t wearing one."
Shana stretched her neck and pointed at the photo, ignoring him, "She should be in the latter half, near the windows at the end, next to the pool table."
Little Knife was looking at the fire evacuation map at the service counter, "At the end, there is a pool table."
After scouting the passages on both sides for a while and estimating the number of zombies, Maya said, "Little Knife and I will go ahead, the rest of you loot the corpses; don’t miss any items or information. Place the looted items on top of the bodies for easy recognition." Both Little Knife’s archery and Maya’s crossbow were silent killers. Considering this was Shadow’s first system mission, Maya was focused on playing it safe, preferring to waste a bit more time if necessary.
...
"Blue Ocean Agency."
Maya took the business card; the broker zombie had been located outside room 17. She called over, "Lin Wu, pick the lock."
Lin Wu came over and examined the electronic lock seriously for 5 seconds, "Are you serious?"
Maya asked, "Can’t you pick it?"
"No."
Maya looked around, puzzled; they had cleared most of the zombies outside, so why was there not a single key to be found? Maya spoke a few words with Shana, who went to search the service counter for information, while Maya led others to seek out any hidden zombies.
Lin Wu leaned against the wall, mimicking a movie scene by drawing out his pistol and pointing it, then turning around to face the door, he presented a driver’s license, "Shadow Base! Open up."
Maya guessed the beginning but not the end, and when she heard Lin Wu shout "Shadow Base," she couldn’t help it and doubled over in a fit of suppressed laughter. Indeed, Shadow Base was quite fitting, often appearing in movies as something like NYPD.
Lin Wu glared at Maya in annoyance, "You’re the lead, you do the kicking."
Maya stood up, took a deep breath to adjust her mindset, and kicked with all her might, only to be rebounded back and land on the carpet. She had twisted her ankle, but it was self-healing.
After dealing with the zombies, Peanut suggested, "Could it be that we need to rappel down from the rooftop?"
Lin Wu replied, "Impossible, the rooftop extends out several meters."
