Chapter 353: Chapter 196: Secret Room_2
Maya took the key fob to the door of the open plan office, using a broken mirror shard to observe the movement of the zombies. She didn’t think she could safely cross the corridor, so she waited for the right moment to throw the key fob into the meeting room.
...
Lin Wu turned the key, and with a ’click’, the lock opened. He pressed down on the door handle and pushed the door open with one hand. Inside was darkness, either there were no windows, or the curtains were too good at blocking out light. Lin Wu switched on his flashlight and stepped onto the remarkably soft carpeted floor.
After closing the door, Lin Wu felt along the wall to the window and drew the curtains. He saw the window was sealed with steel bars, like those found on prison windows. The window had not been breached by zombies, and its glass remained intact. After pulling back another curtain, Lin Wu had a clear view of the whole room.
This was a luxurious office of around two hundred square meters, with its items well-preserved. The office also came with a restroom and a soundproof resting room which had been converted into a generator room. The resting room housed an independent generator and had 7 packs of gasoline and two barrels of fuel. The power distribution panel connected to the roof, which, if Lin Wu remembered correctly, was fitted with many solar panels.
The restroom was also modified, with several pipes extending to the roof to collect rainwater. The rainwater would flow through a filtration system, an electric sterilization system, and finally into a storage tank.
Against the wall on the left side of the office, there were five large freezers, four of which were filled with pig meat cut into half-carcass portions. The fifth freezer contained quite a number of medicines and vitamin tablets.
Clearly, this was a refurbished shelter for apocalypse survival. However, compared to professional shelters, the equipment here was relatively simple, which likely explained why its owner had not made it. Lin Wu stood before the skeleton trying to figure out how the owner had died, but, looking at the bones, he was certain the person was dead.
Why bones, you might ask? This involved an issue with the game. Would you rather see a heavily decomposed corpse, or a clean and almost adorable skeleton?
Lin Wu reached out and picked up the revolver lying next to the skeleton. Silent Night: A six-shot, .22 caliber revolver.
Revolvers are slow to reload and typically lack sights, which is why they’re not everyone’s favorite. But this Silent Night was different. First off, it used .22 caliber bullets, which were cheaper to shoot. Second, it was fitted with a red dot sight, eliminating the need for aligning with the crosshair. But most importantly, this was a silenced revolver with a noise reduction of 99.8%, meaning only those within 0.1 meters of it, be they people or zombies, could hear the gunfire.
It’s a shame it was still just a revolver, as loading the revolver would still take twice as long as a regular pistol, and its ammo capacity was limited. However, this did not diminish the splendor of Silent Night in the slightest. Even the quietest pistols on the market fitted with professional suppressors only had a noise reduction of 99%.
At first, Lin Wu thought he had read the data wrong and had to check twice to confirm he had indeed found an exceptional weapon.
"Should I bring back half a slab of pork to roast?" Lin Wu asked after reporting his situation.
Stone went crazy, "With all those supplies, you’re concerned about pork?"
Lin Wu snapped, "Who can tell me how to block this damn Undying?"
Stone: "Block your sister."
The team was exhausted and started arguing again.
During a break in their bickering, Maya said, "Peanut and I already have supplies bags; you take a medical supplies bag and two barrels of gasoline. If you can handle the load, bring back half a slab of pork."
Lin Wu: "Load exceeds 200%."
Little Knife suggested, "Drag it back."
Lin Wu shouldered the half carcass of pork, which was doable, but he would lose 10% stamina with every step. After some consideration, Lin Wu took a second step, a third, rested once, and made it to the iron gate. Once sure it was safe, he carried the pork to the door of the meeting room.
Upon seeing the pork on Lin Wu’s shoulder, Peanut in the open plan office exclaimed, "That’s half of a huge pig!" She had thought it only weighed 20-30 kilograms, but it looked to be at least 40 kilograms.
Stone interjected again, "Did you not think about this? In the summer, half a slab of pork can last a very long time." Pork was consumable in the spring, and come summer, it could provide full bellies.
Lin Wu: "Sixteen pigs in four freezers, that’s enough to eat yourself to death."
Horse Soul stated, "I’m setting up the barbecue right now."
Stone, speechless, took off his headset and swallowed his saliva!
Lin Wu looked from side to side, timing his slow movement through the corridor. across from him, Maya and Peanut were extremely tense. Those with a craving for food usually had good luck; as Lin Wu crossed the corridor, the zombies on either side not only ignored him but also blocked the view of the other zombies.
With the assistance of the three others, the half-side of pork was transported to the office balcony. Lin Wu climbed down the flagpole first and took out a zombie that had wandered there. Peanut and Maya tied the pork with a rope and lowered it down. But in an instant, something went wrong. The two miscoordinated and failed to secure the rope tight. Realizing the rope had slipped, they quickly grabbed hold of it.
Maya and Peanut glanced at each other, both startled by the commotion that such a large object could cause if it fell, undoubtedly attracting a horde of zombies. They looked down to see Lin Wu lying motionless on the ground. After another glance at each other, they gently placed the pork on the ground and climbed down the flagpole.
Lin Wu shook his head and stood up, "Knocked out for ten seconds? Mild concussion?" What’s that supposed to mean?
Peanut explained, "A zombie fell from the rooftop, hit you right on the head."
