Chapter 351: Chapter 195: Expansion_3
The trio was on the balcony of an office, which measured about 15 square meters with both the balcony door and the main door left open. There were no zombies inside the office.
Upon entering the office, Peanut used his exploration skill and quickly determined there were 5 items of value within. Exploration had a major flaw—it could only discover items of value, not clues. If for nothing else but looting, it could be considered a god-tier skill. Besides identifying the location of valuable items, he could search twice as fast as an ordinary person.
The first item of value was the desk drawer, where Lin Wu found some chewing gum and beef jerky. The second valuable item was also in a desk drawer, containing five boxes of cigars, like the wine, a leisure luxury. The third item of value was a metal stun stick in the wardrobe, essentially a blunt weapon with an added magic attack, doubling the stiffening time when striking zombies, requiring a charge, making it a fine weapon in close combat. Unfortunately, as with most fine items, it was irreparable. Most melee weapons found while looting shared this irreparable trait.
The fourth item of value was a medical kit inside a first aid box, containing 4 units of medical supplies. The fifth item of value was a combination safe tucked in a corner.
Maya spent 10 minutes examining files and various text information on the office desk, and by using factorization deduced a six-digit code, successfully opening the safe. Inside, there were diamond rings, a gold necklace, silver bracelets, and several bundles of cash. In addition, there was a handgun and a box of 25 bullets for the pistol.
For the pre-Shadow, these items were insignificant trinkets. But for the now ammo-deficient Shadow, those 25 bullets represented a sizable wealth. Shadow currently lacked an effective financial system management, causing them to live like Moonlight, lavishly dining out when rich and holing up in the dormitory eating instant noodles when poor. Fortunately, they managed to become wealthy quite often.
Leaving through the main door of the office, they stepped out into an open-plan office about 50 square meters in size with approximately 15 workstations. The original 15 zombies had been taken care of by Lin Wu while Maya was deducing the safe’s combination.
Peanut explored the area and found seven valuable targets. Lin Wu sat in a computer chair to open a drawer but didn’t anticipate the chair was worn with a broken gas lift, causing it to sink down and make a grating noise.
Without hesitation, Maya ran towards the office, taking out her Repeating Crossbow and turning to stand guard, while Lin Wu and Peanut quickly retreated inside the office. Five zombies and one Frenzy ran into the open plan office from the corridor. They weren’t far from the office, and Lin Wu shuffled his body to shield the two behind him.
At that moment, the system displayed its ruthless side as their movement stirred up dust. Maya, having inhaled a great amount of dust, felt an intense urge to sneeze. Unable to hold it back, she grabbed Lin Wu’s clothes in front of her to cover her nose and mouth and let out a muffled sneeze. The sound wasn’t loud but not quiet either, enough for the zombies to detect the trio.
Lin Wu was the first to charge at the oncoming Frenzy, while Maya shot the other five zombies with her Repeating Crossbow. The process was straightforward, the six zombies thudding to the ground. They weighed over a hundred pounds each, and their falling in the quiet space sounded particularly loud; one even smashed an already broken fish tank as it fell, the shattering glass piercing the silence.
Maya pulled Lin Wu into the office, closed the door, leaving only a crack, and had Lin Wu watch from the gap. She and Peanut retreated to the balcony, ready to escape using the flagpole if necessary.
