Chapter 333: Chapter 188: Defending the City (Part 2)_3
Lin Wu held his nose high, his face lifted to the sky, disdainfully asking, "Why should we listen to you women?"
As soon as these words were out, a man immediately retorted, "Brother, that’s going too far."
Lin Wu said, "What’s so excessive about it? Tell me, what qualifications does she have to command us?"
Everyone looked at Maya, thinking exactly, what qualifications do you have?
Maya answered helplessly, "I’m a member of the guard."
"Oh," everyone responded in unison. Looking back at Lin Wu, they saw him, who was previously arrogant and domineering, quietly taking his seat upon hearing ’guard army.’ With such a precedent set, no one present spoke out against it anymore; they all wanted to hear how Maya would command.
Maya shared her ideas, dividing the players into five groups, distinguishable by color. Group 1 would loot the air drops. Group 2 would cover Group 1. Group 3 would suppress from the city walls. Group 4 would patrol the city walls. Group 5 would deal with emergencies on the move, like handling Titans, sections of the wall overwhelmed by zombies, and so on. Group 5 would rotate every 15 minutes.
Furthermore, Maya suggested that each person should carry no more than two primary firearms and place secondary firearms and ammunition in the warehouse next to the lab for players in need to freely take. But this was just a suggestion. The most important thing was still the grouping.
The process went smoothly; Maya had everyone count off and group up with others who shared their number. They tried to find pieces of cloth or ribbons in their group’s color to tie around their left arms for easy recognition.
The players didn’t think the suggestion was particularly good, but they didn’t find it bad either, and it wasn’t going to harm them. While searching for ribbons, one player brought three cans of paint which solved the color problem for three groups. These groups sprayed various colored strips to match a single color. The last two groups were a bit messy, but one group used light colors and the other dark colors. Overall, it was easy to distinguish between them.
After Lin Wu had caused a scene, Maya felt too embarrassed to sit with him, but Lin Wu shamelessly came over to sit beside her, "Why don’t you want the leadership?"
Maya looked around, seeing that no one was paying attention to her, then said, "I don’t have the oratory skills to persuade everyone to follow my lead."
Lin Wu asked, "Do you think it will hold up?"
Maya thought for a moment, "The core is the city wall. Once a section is breached, a large number of zombies will flood into the safe zone, and players will need to divert manpower to deal with them. It won’t be easy; we’ll have to chase and shoot them down. So I designated a mobile group not just to deal with Titans but to be ready for this potential problem."
Maya continued, "I’m still fairly optimistic at the moment. As long as the players hold steady, the casualties shouldn’t be too severe. But a reversal of the situation could hinge on just one wall, and once it collapses, it could be irreversible. What is this?"
Lin Wu offered some food, "Beef tripe."
Maya accepted the fork and after tasting it, nodded, "Tastes good; I’ve heard of beef tripe but it’s my first time trying it." Blue Star’s different regions had varying dietary habits. Generally, the more north you go, the sweeter the preference, favoring fish and beef or lamb. The more south, the spicier, with pork being the mainstay, and practically anything edible was on the menu.
Lin Wu said, "It’s cow stomach."
Maya sighed, "You could’ve kept that to yourself."
"I’m here!" Little Knife reached them, running and shouting with a basin in hand, causing everyone nearby to look their way while Maya hurriedly covered her face with her hands.
Snow Egg had perished trying to save Little Knife, and Horse Soul, while looting an air drop, had bravely used his body to block zombies to cover a female player, nobly sacrificing his life. Peanut was still alive but severely injured and undergoing treatment; he probably wouldn’t make it to the first hour of the buffet.
The system dispatched NPCs to perform ethnic dances, but it was unclear which ethnicity they represented. Lin Wu thought they might be from the Bikini Tribe, Little Knife guessed the Shorts Tribe. Indeed, to each their own vision.
After eating and drinking their fill, everyone either found a place to sit alone or in small groups to rest. The melodious piano music wafting from the stage brought an unparalleled peace to the entire battlefield for a time.
