Chapter 310: Chapter 179: Supply Point_3
The tasks available at the supply point were all low score, low-risk ones. Most of the tasks specified that there would be no attacks, no use of abilities, even the routes were predefined, and one must not leave a certain area during the task. To take on higher-scoring tasks, one had to go to the excavation site.
Since everyone wore protective suits and nobody knew each other, Lin Wu discreetly stuffed Wai into his protective suit.
If one wished to leave, they had to do so on foot, as the tricycle was completely out of gas. The two of them pushed it for three hundred meters to get to the supply point, only to find, to their surprise, that gasoline was not sold there.
Players inside the library were divided into two colors. One was for regular players, and the other was players shrouded in a white light, which indicated brothers who had accepted tasks to do the "brick-moving". The despicable Dawn had not chosen the most direct route to the excavation site but had instead created a longer detour specifically for the brick-moving brothers.
Maya was looking at the map at the entrance of the library when suddenly someone next to her twitched. Turning her head, she saw that a bullet had hit the person’s head, killing him instantly.
"Sniper," someone shouted, and everyone scrambled to find cover.
"Inside the library is a safe zone," a player yelled, then ran up the steps back to the library. He had just made it a few steps up when he was hit by two bullets and fell dead. His body rolled down the steps to Lin Wu, who was stealthily crouching behind the stone lion at the bottom of the steps.
At this point, Lin Wu did not loot the corpse; his arrogance did not mean he was mindless. Corpse looting under these circumstances would lead to group outrage. There were dozens of people trapped outside the main entrance of the library, taking cover everywhere.
"Go," Maya said.
Lin Wu crouched out from cover, using his camouflaged gun to search for targets. He quickly spotted one 80 meters away. At 80 meters away was a commercial street, or something of the sort; it was hard to make out. But on the second floor, a bridge connected buildings on both sides of the street. There was a Hunter in the buildings on each side.
Learning that the instance had Resurrection Cards and Golden Resurrection Cards, Lin Wu knew that Blood Meng and her group hadn’t genuinely died.
Lin Wu pulled the trigger, headshotting the left target, who immediately withdrew. The right target hesitated for two seconds before leaving the sniping spot as well. Lin Wu took Maya’s binoculars to watch and saw one person move to a column at the edge of the street on the first floor; he aimed his gun. When the target’s head emerged from behind the column, Lin Wu fired, and the person was killed outright. Obviously, this was the same left target who had been headshot before.
The right target looked out of a first-floor window for two seconds with his gun, failed to spot the shooter, and swiftly hid himself. Lin Wu kept an eye on the window, not expecting that the adversary had such extensive combat experience; he had moved to a second-floor window and injured a female player just coming out of the library.
"Focus on the spot where you think he’s most likely to reappear," Maya instructed.
Lin Wu nodded and silently waited. Everyone kept quiet, placing their hope in Lin Wu. After a while, Lin Wu fired, then immediately switched to the binoculars, "He’s run away, on a bicycle." The right target had fled from the second floor all the way to the end of the street before descending and riding away on a bicycle.
Maya stood up, turned around, and said, "It’s safe now."
Maya and Lin Wu took a half-circle detour to the side of the library where there was a row of flagpoles. Noticing that no ribbons or sashes were tied to the poles, Maya remarked, "They haven’t arrived yet."
"Or maybe they never came at all," Lin Wu suggested.
"I trust Shana," said Maya.
"You trust Shana’s prestige? Suppose they were born in Zone 5, close to the supply point in Zone 1. Reaching the supply point in Zone 4 is like crossing the entire city. I understand your thinking, I trust that everyone has integrity, but special conditions require easy actions," Lin Wu argued.
After considering for a moment, Maya decided, "It’s three in the afternoon now, let’s spend the night at the supply point. If they still haven’t arrived by tomorrow morning, we’ll leave then." She then took out a scarf and tied it to the bottom of one of the flagpoles.
With resignation, Lin Wu said, "Alright then."
