Chapter 238: Chapter 151: Hunting_3
Meanwhile, the Nightmare, frightened, retreated behind the rock, "XXX, you xxx, come out and fight one-on-one if you dare, you little piece of trash XXX."
As expected, nothing but a mouthful of trash talk. Lin Wu certainly wouldn’t fall for it and so he filed a complaint in retaliation. Little White Rabbit descended, visible only to the parties involved, and Lin Wu quietly explained that he had been verbally attacked by the other party. Little White Rabbit appeared in front of the Nightmare and informed him that, due to his use of foul language to insult others, he would face a one-hour confinement punishment. However, the Nightmare could choose any one-hour period within the next 24 hours to enter the confinement instance.
Although the punishment wasn’t severe, the Nightmare jolted in shock upon seeing Little White Rabbit and while getting up, Lin Wu blew his head off with a shot. This time, without his forehead guard, the Nightmare took a bullet to the head, and he finally figured out Lin Wu’s position. The Nightmare had high combat awareness, rolling to the other side of the rock, then breaking into a run.
The Nightmare’s thought process was simple: as long as he was far enough away, he wouldn’t fear death. He would run with all his might, burn through his stamina, and then see if Lin Wu was still in pursuit. If Lin Wu followed, he’d simply kill himself; if Lin Wu didn’t follow, then he would make his escape. Sadly, before he could burn through all his stamina, without looking back, he stepped on a Beast Trap buried in the snow.
Before dying, the Nightmare finally looked back and saw Lin Wu’s face clearly, the sunglasses still dangling an unremoved price tag.
How had he arrived so quickly?
The Nightmare hadn’t completely fallen yet when, in the last moment, he saw Lin Wu’s guilty hand pressing on his chest.
After looting the Nightmare, Lin Wu wasn’t particularly happy. The Nightmare was more cunning than expected; he carried some medicine, but not much, some bullets, but not many. Lin Wu walked away with an assault rifle, a pistol, twenty bullets, and a computer. The computer, being an exclusive item, couldn’t be used by others after dropping; it had to be either returned to the Nightmare or destroyed.
Not too happy meant he was pleased, but not overly so. The reason was that Lin Wu had acquired a Skill Book that could settle the score for Shana’s death: the Gale Combo, suitable for all system blunt weapons. System blunt weapons refer to the ones crafted by the production room, not those scavenged. This was a downside because without an armory, the production room could only make some simple, common blunt weapons, which had lower stats than the scavenged ones.
Why did the Nightmare have a Skill Book? One possibility was that he carried it for trade. Another possibility was that he received the Skill Book from participating in some event or mission.
The Gale Combo consisted of an active skill and a passive skill. Active skill: attack speed increased by 100% for 15 seconds, with a one-minute cooldown. Passive skill: combo rate increased by 50%, bone-shattering chance 20%, skull-crushing chance 10%. The damage and execution rate calculation for triggering a combo used Agility to convert to Strength, and each combo consumed a standard 4 points of stamina.
Bone-shattering refers to breaking arms, legs, or ribs, causing changes in the zombie or player’s physical abilities, and if the skull is broken, it causes dizziness for 5 seconds. Skull-crushing is the official term for executions with a blunt weapon. Knife executions are called backstabs. Sharp blade executions are called beheadings.
Assuming the user has 10 stars of Agility, the triggered combo would calculate damage and execution rate as if the user had 10 stars of Strength. Standard consumption of 4 stamina points refers to the stamina used without any bonuses or penalties.
Lin Wu could also use this Skill Book, and the effects were quite good. He might become an enhanced version of Maya because he had the Blood Plague survivor trait that Maya didn’t, allowing him to take on Blood Zombies head-on. With double Agility bonuses and activating the active skill, his attack speed would take off, and he might even turn into a propeller and fly into the sky.
However, Maya strongly recommended sticking to just one type of weapon, specializing in a single class of weaponry. Also, too high an attack speed wasn’t always good because it could burn through stamina too fast. If you were too Frenzy against an enemy and had bad luck, not triggering an execution might exhaust all your stamina; who would you cry to then?
Well, all that could only be an excuse. Lin Wu had to convince himself not to covet the Skill Book, as this was the basic line of respect towards his companions.
Getting back on his skis, Lin Wu thought of the Nightmare, a truly difficult opponent, craftier than a nest of hornets. Lin Wu was a bit worried he would come back for more trouble, not out of fear, but because it was troublesome; he had to stay vigilant at all times. But this worry flashed by momentarily; if he came, he’d strip him again.
Yet Lin Wu still couldn’t understand why the Nightmare wanted to kill him and Shana.
