Chapter 237: Chapter 151 Hunting_2
Having finished searching the first vacation house, Shana sat on the ground, looking at the messy scene: "Damn mission."
Lin Wu said, "It’s a challenge mission."
"What are you doing?"
Lin Wu replied, "Chasing a rabbit into the woods." With the drone, he wasn’t afraid of getting lost.
Shana: "The next vacation house, needs a blessing."
Lin Wu responded half-heartedly, "Blessings, blessings." There was a rabbit ten meters away from him, but unfortunately it was obscured by underbrush. Lin Wu was considering whether to send his dagger Wind Stinger flying towards it or to take it down with a shot from Silencer. At the same time, he questioned how strong was the penetrating power of gunfire and bullets?
As Lin Wu was playing games with the wild rabbit, suddenly Shana’s voice came through his earpiece: "Attacked by a player."
Lin Wu heard her clearly and said, "I’ll be right there."
No sooner had he spoken than the system notification came that morale had decreased, and to his shock, Shana was dead.
Lin Wu was both angry and surprised, wondering which player was so strong. Could it be a revived Fortress agent seeking revenge? Lin Wu elevated the drone and quickly found a masked person in a white snow camo suit about 80 meters from where Shana had died. The figure picked up a pair of binoculars and watched Shana’s body disappear before turning to leave.
Indeed, it was a Fortress agent, male, but which one was unknown.
Lin Wu immediately followed him and saw that the agent was not using the road but was moving through the woods, squatting down from time to time to look around, seemingly confirming his bearings. The drone, however, told Lin Wu otherwise; in the drone’s camera feed, the agent was burying a landmine in the snow and hooking the tripwire onto a tree branch nearby.
Obviously, the agent believed someone was tracking him. After setting the landmine, he walked forward about ten meters and quietly inserted a camera into a tree. He then leaned against a large stone, pulled out a laptop, and watched the camera’s feed, while also holding a hand-held remote. Clearly, the landmine could be triggered not only by touch but also remotely.
The landmine was on the edge of a clearing by the woods, and the agent was lurking opposite it, behind the Stone by the edge of the forest. If the target stepped into the trap, the agent was confident he could deliver a fatal blow after the landmine had caused damage.
Meanwhile, Lin Wu had confirmed the agent’s identity; he was Nightmare. Nightmare hadn’t seen Lin Wu, but Lin Wu had observed him for a long time through the drone. Although Nightmare changed his clothes, Lin Wu recognized him from his movements.
Lin Wu wondered: Why would Nightmare want to kill Shana and him?
After killing Shana, Nightmare could have completely escaped, but he used the act of killing Shana as bait. He knew that Shana and Lin Wu had Bluetooth headsets, which might not be a secret, as Blood Meng had met both of them.
Nightmare might have inquired with the players in North Town and learned that Lin Wu was a Hunter. Nightmare might deduce from previous battles that Lin Wu had certain stealth abilities. But did Nightmare know about his drone? Nightmare probably knew about the drone, and there was a possibility that he could betray him.
From Nightmare’s current setup, it seemed he believed that Lin Wu was someone with tracking abilities but didn’t consider the fact that Lin Wu had a drone. The question remained the same, why did Nightmare want to kill both Shana and him?
There might be no answer to this question because today, it was either Nightmare’s death or his own survival.
He couldn’t die, for there were no red dots around, and the drone had scouted the area three times back and forth, capturing every detail. He just needed to make a sneak attack from behind.
...
However, Lin Wu identified two big problems. The damn snow would leave footprints and noise, making it extremely difficult for Lin Wu to approach Nightmare. Observing for a while, he saw that it was a T-intersection, with the landmine woods on the left of the vertical line, and Nightmare hiding to the right of the vertical line. In the middle of the vertical line was an open field, and above the open field was a park trail.
Lin Wu circled to where the park path intersected and laid down three Beast Traps, cutting off Nightmare’s retreat. Then he moved to the bottom of the T-intersection. The acts were not just to simply kill Nightmare but to loot him.
Lin Wu moved forward by the clearing, near to the treeline, and stopped about 20 meters away, removing his skis and crouched into a lurking state. He couldn’t manage to ski while lurking yet.
Moving slowly two steps to the left, he peeked out from cover. Lin Wu aimed his gun at Nightmare behind the Stone. After visualizing his plan in his mind, Lin Wu decisively pulled the trigger. Without surprise, the bullet blew Nightmare’s head, breaking his forehead guard. After firing, Lin Wu worked the bolt to chamber another round and stayed motionless.
Nightmare rolled to the side of the Stone, which now faced Lin Wu directly, but Lin Wu did not shoot and stayed crouched. Nightmare took out a mirror from his backpack and tried to look behind the stone using its reflection. Lin Wu shot the mirror away. Nightmare immediately drew back and hid. By now, Nightmare must have concluded that Lin Wu was at the top of the T, but in reality, Lin Wu was at the bottom.
That was the characteristic of the Silencer, silent killing, with no idea from where the bullet had come.
Listening intently for two minutes, Nightmare took out another mirror. Lin Wu watched carefully, waiting for Nightmare to raise the mirror, then shot off Nightmare’s little finger. Nightmare immediately withdrew and took painkillers. Lin Wu didn’t fire again, because, from the drone’s view, he could clearly see the forehead guard was only cracked, not broken, and it could withstand at least two fatal blows.
Waiting, continuing to wait, even a full health Nightmare dared not run around, lifting up the mirror to check again. This time Lin Wu didn’t shoot. As Nightmare didn’t see anyone, he began to suspect Lin Wu was flanking. Watching Nightmare peek out and observe the snow, Lin Wu decisively took a shot that damaged the forehead guard.
