Chapter 141: Chapter 112 Undying and Indestructible

Maya had rested for three hours when she heard some noise and came out of her room with her knife. Seeing it was Lin Wu, she cleared the zombies approaching the base and noticed his pallor, asking, "What’s the matter, you’re looking lackluster?" In Maya’s impression, Lin Wu was always either calm and poised, ready to strike, or lively and expressive in action.

Lin Wu shook his head, "So bored. And the worst part is, there are still two more nights of this boredom." They had to keep up the grind at least until the night before the market opened.

Maya asked, "How’s the loot?"

"Serum and common Skill Books." Lin Wu sat down and said, "Little Knife is really having fun, she gets so caught up in it that she forgets about everyone else around her." She only remembered Lin Wu when she needed to lure zombies.

Maya reminded him, "Nightmare said that after five consecutive waves of Blood Plague zombies, the Titan will appear in the fifth wave."

"I know, we take a 5-minute break every four waves." During the breaks, Little Knife would leave the carriage to hunt zombies. Lin Wu curiously asked, "That train carriage is just two meters tall, but the Titan is three meters high, how does it spawn? And when it does, won’t it be like a cork stuck in the carriage passageway?"

Maya thought about the imagery and said, "Better not to spawn one. Lin Wu, I want to talk to you about something."

Lin Wu asked in surprise, "Love?" What else could you possibly have to ask me about? I’ve been quite the experienced hand at romance, having dated twice.

"Not love," Maya replied emphatically, "Stone told me not to interfere too much with Bai Ban’s affairs."

"And then?" asked Lin Wu.

"Compared to other bases in North Town, Bai Ban has it really good—everyone has their own strengths. But compared to us, Bai Ban seems dull and unchallenging, lacking in fun, and restrictive in action. Should we not have taken the MRI and drones to the base today?"

"Did something happen to Bai Ban?" asked Lin Wu.

"Nothing too serious, just more complaints than before. They keep asking me whether they can go on adventures to certain places or if there’s a suitable location for a team to venture," Maya responded.

Lin Wu said, "An old friend once told me this, ’People don’t envy those far away, they envy those they can see around them. Neighbors, colleagues, classmates, relatives, and so forth.’"

"Do you feel it?" Maya inquired.

"I do, but I remind myself it’s not right," said Lin Wu. Envy comes as an instinctive reaction. You’d feel a sense of loss if a lackadaisical friend achieved success, and not just envy, to some extent. On the other hand, if you are strong and your friends are strong and your friend succeeds, you won’t feel envious because you understand they have the means and potential to succeed.

The supermarket base had only one space left to build a library, currently holding only three classics. Maya wasn’t discouraged; she took pleasure in collecting books as part of the game. She set a goal for herself, enjoyed the process of completing it, and then reveled in that accomplishment.

Although Lin Wu and Maya slept in the same room, each had a personal space. However, the screen between them wasn’t very soundproof, so snoring or meeting friends quietly could disturb the other. Sleeping for five hours was enough to satisfy the system’s requirements, but just lying in bed with closed eyes for 7.5 hours without sleeping wouldn’t eliminate fatigue. Reading in bed wouldn’t relieve tiredness either.

This was the second time Lin Wu shared a room to sleep with someone who wasn’t his girlfriend; the first time had been just the day before, which had been all about catching up on sleep, given that they’d only gone to bed around 4 AM. And today? There wasn’t much of a story today either. Both of them had clear, pure intentions with no improper thoughts or disturbances; they either slept or read by candlelight.

When Lin Wu woke up at 8 in the morning, Maya had already left for her shift at Bai Ban. On his way out of the dorm, he ran into a zombie. Damn it! So early in the morning... Lin Wu couldn’t help but curse as he took out the zombie. However, this proved that zombies didn’t attack dormitories or other facilities outside of siege times.

...

The day was spent playing with guns, and the night, accompanying Little Knife in grinding against the Blood Plague.

Today, Lin Wu was a bit more cunning and borrowed "War and Peace," which Maya had collected. Holding the book in his left hand and a dagger in his right, he ran past carriage number six, joined Little Knife, and sat down to read. Little Knife would toss the bodies of the Blood Ferocious Mad at him, and he would just feel for them while reading.

Little Knife wasn’t a particularly attentive woman; she hadn’t noticed how bored Lin Wu was while grinding the Blood Plague with her, as all her energy was concentrated on fighting the zombies. When she got excited, Little Knife even talked to herself.

"Wow! Undying."

Lin Wu looked up and saw a Blood Mist forming around Little Knife, which concerned him—was she unaware of being infected? With this thought, he put away the book. Little Knife shouted, "Lin Wu, Blood Zombies, the more the better. Hurry."

"What?"

"Hurry up."

Seeing Little Knife’s anxious expression, Lin Wu immediately used Dual Wind Stab to rush past five Blood Zombies and grabbed a water hose to smash them. Little Knife seemed to be having the time of her life, continually shouting with a hoarse voice, "Quick, Lin Wu, Blood Zombies."

So thirsty for combat? It wasn’t just Lin Wu’s imagination; Little Knife’s behavior was very much like that of someone with a severe addiction. Facing several Blood Zombies, she kept urging him on. Seeing this, Lin Wu didn’t ask any further, and he threw his only two Molotov Cocktails at the Blood Plague, knowing that the continuous fire would spawn two waves of Blood Zombies.

When the third wave arrived, the Blood Mist around Little Knife grew very dense. At that moment, she let out a shout, "Wow! Undying." The enveloping Blood Mist clung to her like armor, and in an instant, her eyes turned blood red, and she became immensely violent. She no longer dragged zombies to the ground but instead stretched out her hands to twist off a zombie’s head, then grabbed the head and smashed it onto another zombie’s skull. Then, with her left hand, she grabbed a zombie by the collar, pulled it toward her, and delivered a powerful right hook to its head, sending it flying like a soccer ball for more than ten meters.
