Chapter 372: I’m not asking for much

Chapter 372: I’m not asking for much

"Out of everyone, I should’ve been the one to take action, using whatever I can to stop my wife since I am their father and she..." He eyed her. "Is not even their mother."

"What?!" They both exclaimed.

Mrs Lee’s eyes widened. He wouldn’t dare to spill the truth, would he?

"I’m willing to cooperate, to make amends." Mr Lee said.

"Wait, what do you mean she’s not their mother?" Seojin asked, perplexed. "Is this a plot to get us confused?"

"No, it is as I said. My wife is not the mother of the twins. Their mother is long dead and she... Was my wife’s twin sister."

"Are you really trying to ruin your image by telling the truth?" Mrs Lee barked. "You know I did all that for you. You wouldn’t have an heir if it wasn’t for me."

"No, you did it for yourself." Mr Lee glared at her. "There was nothing wrong with me. You were the barren one. You were the one who wanted to keep your status so you used every means necessary."

"I don’t remember you complaining about my methods."

"And I don’t remember being aware of your methods. You tortured the poor woman into submission. You..." He gritted his teeth, his face stricken with regret. "You pushed her to her death, and you had no remorse. You have no soul."

Mrs Lee clicked her tongue and looked away.

"Think what you want. Minwoo is my child, and I will do whatever I want with him."

"Not on my watch," Mr Lee declared.

"What?!"

"I will no longer let you do whatever you want. Now that it’s come to this, I would rather speak up and keep my life than watch you act out and die in the process." He said and turned to the twins. "I’ll cooperate with you and tell you everything, reveal all the secrets. But in return, you have to spare me."

Seojun snorted. "You think we’re that easily bought?"

Dongwoo’s father smiled quite faintly. He knew he could not win by promising heaven and Earth to these two, whose only objective was to get revenge for the hurt they caused their lover.

"I’m not asking for much. Just... leniency. And in return, I’ll give you the truth."

Seojin exchanged a look with Seojun, and after a silent conversation with their eyes, Seojun nodded.

"Fine," Seojun said. "We’ll listen. But if you’re lying, you’ll regret it."

Dongwoo’s father nodded, a relieved smile on his face.

"Thank you," he said. "Thank you for understanding."

"I will not stand for this," Mrs Lee yelled and wanted to act out, but Seojin took out a gun and pointed it at her, scaring the daylight out of her.

"I told you, I will not put up with your nonsense." He threatened with a dead man’s look in his eyes. "Say one more word, and you’ll lose your legs."

Mrs Lee had no choice but to shut her mouth.

And with that, Mr Lee began to speak, revealing secrets that would change everything.

"As I said, Dongwoo and Minwoo’s biological mother was my wife’s twin sister. She was the one who gave birth to Dongwoo and Minwoo."

Seojun’s eyes narrowed.

"What happened to her?" Seojun asked.

Dongwoo’s father’s expression turned cold as he glanced at Mrs Lee.

"In the first place, she never agreed to be a surrogate but my wife tortured her into submission. She did all sorts of things just to get her to sign the papers of her own free will. But then she changed her mind and decided to donate her eggs, get them fertilized, and... Anyway, the twins don’t belong to my wife; they never have and never will. My wife’s twin sister could not take it any longer and committed suicide. She..." He shut his eyes, pressing his eyelids tightly together. "... Drowned."

The room fell silent; the only sound was the heavy breathing of Mrs Lee, who was getting exposed, and Seojin’s cracking fist.

Seojin’s eyes blazed with fury.

"You’re telling us that your wife murdered Dongwoo’s mother?" Seojin asked, his voice low and menacing.

Dongwoo’s father nodded, a sad glint in his eye. She was innocent, after all. Her only crime was being born at the same time as someone as extraordinary as her sister.

She could only live as a shadow all her life.

"Yes. And I’m willing to testify against her, to make sure she pays for her crimes." Mr Lee said.

Seojun’s eyes narrowed in suspicion as he asked,

"Why are you telling us right now? Is it because you see your life flashing before your eyes?"

Dongwoo’s father leaned forward, a sudden sly smile spreading across his face.

"I’m telling you this because I want to cut the strings my wife uses to control me," he said. "I’m tired of being under her thumb, tired of being controlled by her family’s power and her calculating personality."

Seojin raised an eyebrow. "And you think we’ll just let you walk away?"

Dongwoo’s father shrugged. "I’m willing to take that risk. I’ll do whatever it takes to be free of her and make sure she suffers."

Mrs Lee dug her nails into the chair she was sitting on. This bastard! To think he would so ungratefully tattle on her to these other sets of bastards!

Seojun’s eyes narrowed. "And what about Dongwoo? What about what you’ve done to him?"

Mr Lee’s expression turned cold. "Dongwoo and Minwoo were innocent from the start. Their misfortune started when someone like my wife got her hands on them."

Seojun stood up, his eyes blazing with fury. "We’ll take you in, and you’ll face justice for what you’ve done."

Mr Lee paused for a moment and then smiled in relief. "Let’s do that then."

As Seojun’s men moved to take Dongwoo’s father away, Seojin turned to Seojun.

"What about her?" Seojin asked. "We need to find out more about her."

Seojun nodded. "I’ll look into it." He said and turned to Mrs Lee. "Unfortunately for you, you contributed to this mess far too much. So, you’ll have to suffer for what you did to Hyung. You’ll have to feel pain. So..." He snapped his fingers and a few of his men came in. "Take her to the basement." He said.

"What are you...? You won’t get away with this. Do you know who I am? I will make your life a living hell!" Mrs Lee struggled.

"Oh, and we’ll need that brainwashing method to do what we want to get the details from Dongwoo’s father."

"It’s... Finally over."

Here’s a rephrased version:

The storm had finally subsided, and the nightmare was over. Though scars remained, and a precious life (Lily) had been lost, they found solace in the hope that their future would yield even greater joys.
