Chapter 304: And why mention his future?

Chapter 304: And why mention his future?

"Ma’am, I believe you need to be considerate of your environment." Taiha said, flashing a friendly. "You’re currently obstructing our work. So, if it’s okay with you, let go of your son, and let’s talk this out somewhere. That sounds nice to you?"

Mrs Lee looked at Taiha and then let go of Minwoo’s shirt. She looked around and then composed herself.

Brushing her hair behind her ear and making subtle and awkward eye contact like she was a decent human being.

Her initial goal was to make a scene but maybe she went overboard here.

"Ahem," she cleared her throat. "And you are?"

"Meong Taiha, nice to meet you." He said, stretching his hand for a handshake. She accepted the handshake and said,

"Ah, I knew you looked familiar. So you are the famous Meong, haha. It’s a pleasure to meet you in person." She was engaging in a conversation like nothing had happened, which made Dongwoo skeptical about what just happened.

Had it all been an act?

"Hm, and I feel you’re familiar too." Taiha said, carrying the conversation lightly and she felt flattered.

"Oh, I’ve only been on a broadcast a couple of times. No big deal."

"Ah, I remember now. You must be Mrs Lee. A pleasure to meet you." He took her hand and said, "Please, come sit. I don’t want you to be uncomfortable in the slightest."

"Oh, you don’t need to worry about that. I just came to pick up what’s mine." She confidently said.

"Pardon? You came to pick up... What is yours?" He asked and stole a glance at Dongwoo.

"Yes, what’s mine." She folded her arms and turned to Dongwoo. "Minwoo, dear. Won’t you come home with Mommy? I’ve really missed you."

Oh, since the pitiful mother act did not work out well, she decided to stop faking and assert her authority, bringing out her true character.

She looked fierce and extremely confident that she could get whatever she wanted, and as Dongwoo stared at her blue eyes, he asked himself,

’Was she as scary as this in my memory?’

Taiha, sensing the situation was turning dire and his flattery did not work, decided to at least take this somewhere they could talk peacefully.

"Okay, I don’t mean to ruin this family reunion but I believe a better place to talk will be appropriate. Like I said you’re interrupting work here. So, talk with the kiddo in his office for now."

"Oh, that won’t be necessary." She said and turned to Dongwoo. "Minwoo, darling. Come home with me. We have so much to talk about. Your future is so bright."

Dongwoo frowned. What in the world was she talking about?

And why mention his future? His future was directly in his hands, she didn’t need to worry about that.

"What are you trying to do?" Minwoo asked stepping in front of Dongwoo. "Whatever you’re planning, give it up."

"So, now you want to challenge me?"

This woman, who was past her middle ages, probably passed menopause; in fact, she looked fairly younger than her age, as she had been catered with money.

(She’s 56. She had the twins at age 26. She was already engaged to her current husband while she was in school. You know, rich parents and arranged marriages. So, as soon as she graduated at 25, they got married, and the following year, Dongwoo and Minwoo became part of the family. I don’t want to give her her own story, so I’m putting a little bit here.)

And since she still had the backbone to move around and enforce her will, she was going to make sure to take her son back no matter what it took.

"I don’t want him to suffer with you." Minwoo said and she cackled.

"Haha, just because you were so useless that your incompetence made you suffer, you think your brother will suffer the same fate? Just look, even without our help, he was able to make a name for himself." Her eyes widened in madness. "That’s pure talent. Now, we can’t let that talent rot in a place such as the entertainment industry, can we?"

This statement offended them. All of them.

What did she mean by his talent rotting in a place like the entertainment industry? What was wrong with working in the entertainment industry?

Yeah, it had a few shady things going on in the background, but don’t all businesses have that?

There was hardly ever a clean slate in any booming business.

"Now, hold on a minute," Taiha spoke up. He was equally offended but he decided to be calm about it. Nothing good will come from losing his temper.

"Oh, there’s no need to hold on." She said and snapped her fingers. Her guards stormed in.

They had tried to block Minwoo previously while Mrs Lee made her way up, but he managed to slip away from them and that was why he looked so disheveled.

Now, they had finally gotten the location and were ready to carry out their Madam’s orders.

"I’ll take my son and, unfortunately, this disgraceful child and just leave. I’ll get out of your hair, don’t worry." She dared to say with a grin, but before the guards could lay a hand on Dongwoo, the Kim twins stepped up.

"Lay one finger on him and you’ll lose it." Seojun threatened, cracking his knuckles and Seojin smiled, saying,

"Yeah, what he said." His smile was deadly.

Mrs Lee looked at them, displeased. She hated it when there were obstructions to her plan.

"Hm, I saw you on TV." She folded her arms. "You’re models, right? What business do you have with my son?"

"Your ’son’ will only be your ’son’ if he says he is. And right now, he hasn’t said a word about you being his mother. So, what you’re doing now is no different from kidnapping." Seojin sounded her out. "So, we have every right to stop you from kidnapping our Hyung."

Dongwoo stared at them. They stood up for him. Ah, didn’t he tell them to stay out of matters like this?

He didn’t want them to get involved. He had no idea what his parents were capable of so he was scared for them.

Mrs Lee looked at them in disbelief and then calmed down. She smiled and turned her attention to Dongwoo.

"I don’t know if you’re idiots or you’re just blind. Seriously, the kids these days lack manners." She sighed. "Dongwoo, Minwoo, are you going to let these guys stop you from coming home?"

Home? What home? He could only remember a hellhole.

There was no home to go to.

Minwoo clenched tight on Dongwoo’s hand he happened to be holding. He was... Scared.

"Don’t be childish and come to me. You know," she gave out a particularly friendly smile as she said, "...mother knows best."

(This made me remember that Rapunzel song.

🎶Motherrrrrrrr, knooows best!!! 🎶

Hehe. Anyway, this woman is evil. I know I wanted to make Dongwoo’s parents loving, nice, and supportive, but over time, I realized they could not be nice if they were the cause of Minwoo’s trauma. So, here it is. Both father and mother are selfish, assertive, and arrogant. They were the kind of parents no child would want. But sadly, children aren’t choosers)
