Chapter 303: Don’t you... dare... hurt my brother!

"... Who are you?" Dongwoo asked, staring at this unfamiliar woman holding his hand.

The fact that she knew his real name was suspicious.

The twins, from where they were, turned their heads towards Dongwoo, wondering who it was, if they were a troublemaker like everyone else who had walked in that door aggressively, or if she was someone he knew.

Just then, Minwoo rushed in, disheveled, as if he had been fighting a pack of monkeys.

"Mother!" He yelled, causing everyone to turn to him. "You have to stop this right away. You’re embarrassing yourself." He rushed towards them, and Dongwoo tore his gaze from Minwoo and back to the woman holding his hand.

This was... Dongwoo’s mother? Then, didn’t that mean...?

She glared at Minwoo, her eyes filled with disdain, and then shifted her gaze to Dongwoo, hurriedly saying the words,

"I’m your mother." She said, and Dongwoo’s heart skipped a beat.

He felt the gravity of her words as she spoke them to her.

He was... He was at a loss for words.

Dongwoo gulped down an edging feeling that was creeping up his throat. But there was nothing there. It was just his salvia and nothing more.

It felt heavy that he almost couldn’t speak a word, but he forced his words out and asked,

"My... Mother?"

(What a twist, right? From one twist to another. First, we find out Geumtae had been talking to someone entirely different from Eunwoo. And then Dongwoo’s mother comes to his workplace. When will there be peace?

Minwoo hurried towards them and grabbed his mother’s arm, possibly the first time he was doing such a thing.

"Mother, you’re embarrassing yourself." He said but she yanked her arm from him.

"Show some respect." She said, not hiding the fact that she was displeased with him. "Where are your manners? How dare you grab your mother like that?" She shifted her gaze from him and towards Dongwoo. "And what’s so embarrassing about coming to find my son? This was your plan all along, wasn’t it? You wanted to hide him away for as long as you could and not let us know that he was alive. How cruel of you." She fired at him and he clenched his fists, unable to talk back at her. "You’re so selfish. Don’t you know things might’ve been hard for him all along without us? How can you do this, Lee Dongwoo? You’ve grown more and more selfish and shameless. Sometimes I wonder who you take after."

"Ah, don’t you know?" He raised his head to boldly look into her eyes. "I look a lot like you that you can hardly tell the difference."

He didn’t mean that on the surface. He meant that the selfishness she was claiming he had was exactly like hers and all his bad image was a replica of hers.

She understood that quite well, got annoyed, and raised her hand.

"You ungrateful brat! Is this the attitude you choose to display in front of your mother?" She wanted to hit him but Dongwoo caught her hand.

He had been confused. So confused about what was going on. Like, what was happening? Why was she here? HOW was she here?

He could see her saying words to Minwoo. Mean and harsh words, but his head was spinning since he was so confused.

But the moment she raised her hand to hit Minwoo, his body moved into action and he caught his hand, staring daggers at her.

"Don’t you... dare... hurt my brother!"

Their mother looked at him shocked and then heartbroken. She broke down into tears, falling to the ground and bawling.

"I just wanted to meet my long-lost son. I just wanted to hold him and love him again. What did I do so wrong? Just why am I being punished like this? Why?"

Dongwoo watched her cry terribly, his heart pricking with guilt.

Maybe he shouldn’t have been so harsh on her.

She was... His mother. But she was also Minwoo’s mother, so how could she speak like that to him?

His heart hardened. He shouldn’t be deceived. She may be a mother longing for her son but that did not give her the right to treat her other son like he was a piece of trash.

If she did not value the one that stayed with her, then who’s to say that she dearly loved the one she sought to find as she claimed?

He had no vivid memories of his parents. Their faces were blurred, so when she came to him, he could not recognize her at all.

But that aside, even though he did not remember them, he remembered how they treated him.

The praises they showered on him because he was a genius, and how they neglected Lee Dongwoo because he wasn’t as smart as his brother.

While Lee Minwoo was a golden trophy, Lee Dongwoo was a Bronze trophy and they couldn’t settle for less. (I hope this doesn’t confuse u. It’s their real names)

So, he could only imagine how he was treated by their parents after he fell off the cliff and never returned.

Taiha, after being called by Dooshik and Doha who senses trouble, walked in. Seeing the drama in front of him, he sipped his coffee and exclaimed,

"I swear, there’s never a day without drama in this place."

He walked towards the fiercely bawling mother and looked at the uncomfortable Lee twins in front of him.

He got the gist of what was going on but seriously, why was she embarrassing herself like that? Couldn’t they talk this out over coffee or something?

And then, Mrs Lee (let’s call her that) glared sharply at Minwoo.

"I know it’s you." She said, standing up to her feet and pointing her fingers at him. "You fed your brother lies, didn’t you? That’s why he doesn’t feel anything even while seeing me cry so bitterly like this? You black-hearted child. How dare you do this?!" She grabbed Minwoo’s shirt. "How could you do this? He is my son. What did I do to you?!"

The question set a lump in Minwoo’s throat. What did she do? Was she honestly asking him that?

But he couldn’t speak, but simply bowed his head, taking her insults as the bad egg he was.

"You ignored our calls and ignored us when we wanted to meet our son. How could you do something so cruel to us?"

Dongwoo looked at Minwoo whose head was bowed. They called that they wanted to see him? Why did Minwoo not let him know?

Maybe he felt he would be uncomfortable. He remembered telling him he didn’t want to meet their parents yet. Was that why he did that?

Well, this has to stop somehow but how was he going to calm her down? She seemed to have it out for Minwoo most especially.

Well, he had to do something.

But before he could move, luckily - cause he was scared of facing this woman whose intentions were unknown - help came his way sooner than he thought.

Taiha had finally gotten to them after pausing a few times to watch the drama. No offense, but it’s not every day you see a mother-son drama like this.

Drama series don’t release things like this these days either, so it felt so refreshing.

But he knew it was bad, and his conscience would prick him if he let it go in any future, so he stepped up.

Taiha grabbed her hand and smiled at her in a friendly way.

"Ma’am, I believe you need to be considerate of your environment." He said. "You’re currently obstructing our work. So, if it’s okay with you, let go of your son, and let’s talk this out somewhere. That sounds nice to you?"

(Okay, here again with this same recommendation. I know this might not be the right place and time but I need to do this book advertisement.
