Chapter 125: Why didn’t he let me compensate?

The twins drove me to the company and before getting out of the car, I wanted them, just as I did when we were leaving my apartment.

"Do not hug me in public. Do not even think of kissing me either. If anyone asks what our relationship is, just stick to what you’ve been saying all along. We are simply childhood friends."

But unlike how sad and hurt they looked when I warned them at the apartment, they took it quite well and even smiled.

"We understand, Hyung." Seojun said. "No good would come from rumors, whether true or not."

"Y-yeah." I was surprised at how calm they were. No, I should’ve been happy but it suddenly pricked me.

"Then, shall we?" Seojun asked, closing the car door and I nodded.

"But you guys go on first. I need to check up on something before going up." I said.

At first, they stared at me but then they nodded and turned around.

"Alright, Hyung. We’ll see you up."

I waved and watched them leave. Once they were gone, I bowed my head and sighed.

’They probably noticed.’ I thought and stuck my hands in my jacket.

I didn’t have anything I wanted to check up on. I just didn’t want to enter the company together with them.

"I guess I’ll grab a cup of coffee while I’m at it."

I strolled across the street and entered the coffee shop that was just right in front of the company. My gaze immediately trailed to the end where the twins sat me down to ’talk’ shortly after arriving in the country.

’Ah, I was shaking like a leaf then because I felt guilty.’ The memory made me smile and I didn’t pay attention to where I was going.

While looking the other way, I was still walking forward, only to bump into a guy and his coffee spilled all over his sweater.

My eyes widened in shock.

"Oh no, I’m so sorry." I frantically apologized, taking my handkerchief out to clean the coffee stain but it wouldn’t come off. "Oh no, what do I do?"

I finally raised my head to see who it was. It was a brown-haired guy who looked quite young. I’d say 24 or so.

He looked distressed and uncomfortable.

’What was I thinking? I should’ve paid attention to where I was going?’ I thought and hit my lip.

"Um..." The guy finally spoke up. "It’s... It’s fine."

"No, it’s not." I said, still frantically cleaning with the handkerchief.

My actions were drawing onlookers and the guy felt embarrassed.

"No, really. It’s fine. I’m not in a hurry so I’ll just get changed." He said.

I looked at him with sad eyes.

In that situation, I looked like the one being wronged, and that made him feel uncomfortable. But honestly, I just felt bad for ruining his shirt.

"Then, allow me to pay for your dry cleaning." I said. "I’ll definitely compensate for my mistakes."

"I already said..." He looked at my sorry eyes one more time and gave in. "Alright. But just buy me a cup of coffee instead. I don’t need you to pay for my dry cleaning. Really."

Just a coffee? Wasn’t that too little compared to what I did to his sweater?

’Ah, he must be the considerate type.’ I thought.

He was fairly younger than me but when it came to a wrong doing, age didn’t matter. I was in the wrong so I had to apologize and compensate him.

"Here’s your co...ffee?" I looked left and right but didn’t find him. "Where did he go?"

"He ran away." One of the customers said. "He probably didn’t want you to pay him back, so he left while you got the coffee."

"Oh." My face fell, sadly.

Why didn’t he let me compensate? That was how humans were. Once you wronged them, what comes next is the due compensation, be it in cash or kind.

One would rarely see a person who didn’t want to be compensated for their loss.

’And it was my fault too.’

It felt like I had suddenly gotten indebted to someone and it didn’t bode well with me.

I sipped the coffee in my hand and sighed. Maybe we will meet again. Maybe we wouldn’t. But I hoped we would so that I could get to compensate him.

Suddenly, my phone rang and I picked it out of my pocket, only to see it was Taiha. I snapped, remembering I was supposed to be in the studio about 10 minutes ago.

"Where are you, kiddo?" Taiha asked and I laughed nervously.

"I’m in front of the company right now. Just went to get a cup of coffee."

"Oh, you’re close to the coffee shop? Then get me one as well. Cappuccino." He said and cut the call.

I sighed in relief.

We were both working the same jobs but sometimes he gave me ’boss’ vibes. And as an employee, I needed to make sure I didn’t mess up or not I’d get fired.

Though I knew he couldn’t fire me, haha.

I got Taiha’s cappuccino and started walking back to the company.

I took the elevator and once I had gotten out of the elevator, I saw the last person I’d expect to see standing at the front of my door.

He looked hesitant as he raised his hand to knock on my door. He bit his lip and then dropped his hand.

’Does he need anything?’ I wondered and then I watched him knock.

That must’ve taken a lot out of him cause after he did, he grew anxious. But since there was no response, he gave up right away and turned to leave, only to turn and find me staring at him with a coffee in my hand.

"Sung... Ho? What are you doing here?" I asked and Sungho flinched.

He clenched his fists, gritted his teeth, and then bowed his head.

Was he okay?

"Are you okay?" I asked, approaching slowly. "You look uncomfortable."

"I... It’s not that." He said, shaking his head. "Actually, I... I..."

What was he trying to say? Well, whatever it was, he had to be quick about it because I needed to meet up with the crew and I was pretty sure he needed to be present as well.

"If it’s important, do you mind if we talk later?" I asked. "We’re supposed to have a meeting right now and..."

"I came to apologize." He blurted out in a loud tone that almost startled me. He looked flustered, like he feeling overwhelmed for some reason.

He also couldn’t meet my eyes.

I blinked, twice and stared at him. His face flushed in embarrassment as he bit his lip. He probably didn’t plan to yell out his words like that. And then, he repeated his words, more softly this time.

"I... I came to apologize to you."
