Is It Wrong To Love My StepBrother Alpha Mate? -
Chapter 89: The Sage Family Heritage
Chapter 89: The Sage Family Heritage
"Are you sure it’s safe to bring a baby a lot to this trip?" Victor asked from the driver’s seat.
"He’s her Great-grand-nephew," Alyssa said as she waved her hand in the air. "Plus it’s coven tradition to present a newborn to the elders before they turn a month old."
Helena wasn’t quite sure if her mother was telling the truth, but she truly felt like she could trust Dora.
"I remember when Helena was born, her father insisted we present her as soon as I was able," Alyssa recounted. "As an heir to the Grand Warlock, there are more threats to them if they aren’t presented and accepted into the coven. Though I’m not sure what applies now since technically in terms of rank Helena has the highest."
"I’m sure Grandmama Dora won’t mind explaining to us," Helena said as she stroked the top of Ronan’s head.
Like last time Dora had been expecting their arrival, but this time she was waiting up front with her mate.
"Alyssa! You visited as well," Dora said, throwing her arms wide to hug Helena’s mom.
"How could I not? It’s been so long Auntie Dora," Alyssa told Dora as she hugged the older woman tightly.
"I see the Sage magic is still working wonders on the Stonehill pack?" Dora praised.
"Sage magic?" Victor asked, tilting his head to the side.
"A pack that has a Witch or Wizard mated to their Alpha’s bloodline will age longer," Dora explained. "And in the odd case of the Blackmoon pack it seems that some bonds even non-romantic ones can affect their aging too."
"Wait, how old are you Auntie Alyssa?" Victor asked as he studied Alyssa from head to toe.
"It’s like I never taught you any manners!" Victor’s Grandfather said as he smacked the Alpha on the back of his head. "You never ask a woman her age."
The women laughed at Victor’s expense but the noise seemed to wake up the sleeping Ronan, making the baby cry.
"I swear Victor, no one can make that baby cry like you can," Alyssa grumbled as Helena rocked Ronan back to sleep.
"I don’t mind telling him my age," Alyssa told Victor’s Grandfather. "I’m eighty-two."
"What?" Helena asked as her gaze snapped to her mother. "How?"
"Your dad and I didn’t have kids till much later, same with Raul and Cynthia," Alyssa said with a shrug.
"And how old are you Grandmama?" Helena asked Dora.
Dora simply smiled at Helena.
"Didn’t you get a glimpse of that book in the library?" Dora asked, catching Helena off guard.
’Well she’s a character,’ Helena heard Hera scoff.
Helena smiled, catching everyone’s attention.
"Your wolf is back? "Alyssa asked her daughter.
Helena simply nodded in response, turning her attention back to Hera.
’You’re back,’ she said happily. ’Want to meet our son?’
Helena looked down at the baby who was now wide awake reaching out for her face.
’He’s amazing,’ Hera said. ’And I can feel his wolf stirring, he’ll be an early bloomer.’
Helena couldn’t help but groan at that comment.
Early bloomer meant she’d be finding shewolves sneaking out of his room sooner than for most.
"I’m sorry," Helena said as she turned her attention back to the group.
"It’s alright darling," Dora said. "Let’s head inside."
Everyone followed as Dora led the way, taking Alyssa’s arm as they spoke in whispered tones.
"I didn’t know there was such an age gap between you and Grandmama," Victor told his Grandfather.
His Grandfather, Elis Sunstrike simply laughed.
"Do you know how long her brother has been Grand Warlock?" Elis asked Victor.
Victor then turned to Helena as if expecting her to know the answer.
Helena simply shrugged and shook her head.
"He’s been Grand Warlock for two hundred years," Elis told them. "And prior to that, he had to wait a really long time to be Grand Warlock."
Helena was stunned by what she’d learned.
She knew that they were old, but learning her mother was actually eighty-two had her thinking how old everyone else was in the pack.
She never bothered to ask.
When they were finally settled in the family room and Ronan was sleeping peacefully in Helena’s arms, Dora spoke.
"So why are you here?" she asked Helena.
"Two reasons, first Ronan’s presentation," she said as she looked down at her son.
"Not needed," Dora said. "He’s the child of the highest-ranked Witch, the only person he needs to be presented to is his great-grandfather."
"Oh, we weren’t sure," Alyssa said.
"I might be the most experienced but Helena is the Grand Warlock’s heir, you don’t get much higher than that," Dora shrugged.
She then turned to Helena who at first hesitated.
"And the second reason?" Dora asked.
"I think I found how to contact Grandpa," Helena said as she took out her phone and showed the photo to Dora.
Dora’s eyes went wide when she read what was in the photo.
"This page will not show to just anyone, and not just anyone can read it," Dora looked up at Helena, her hands shaking. "Can you read it?"
Helena nodded slowly.
"It’s not in a language I can normally read," Helena told Dora slowly.
"It’s in an ancient language that only Grand Warlocks and their Heirs can understand, and even then the spell doesn’t normally present itself only in times of great need and when the Grand Warlock has verified his heir," Dora explained.
"She was never formally verified," Alyssa said as she looked at her daughter.
"That we know of," Dora said, correcting Alyssa. "My brother could have declared her as Heir at anytime without telling anyone."
Dora then turned her attention to Helena.
"Have you beeb training your magic?" she asked Helena.
"Only when I truly need it," Helena answered.
"This spell will take a lot more that most spells, you’ll need to build up to it, use your magic more, accept it," Dora explained.
’Can we?’ Helena asked Hera.
’It’s a part of you just as I am, of course you can,’ Hera answered.
"I’m willing to put in the effort," Helena answered with a determined nod.
"Good, I’ll come visit you every day at dawn," Dora declared with an excited smile on her lips.
Something told Helena this wasn’t going to be as easy as she initially thought.
