Chapter 121: chap 121

It took Helena a while to finally go to her room and change.

Romeo had kept her in his shower and then on his bed. The man was insatiable and didn’t want Helena to leave.

She was sure that if she hadn’t told him no he would have gone with her to her room and watched her dress after fucking her again.

’We smell like him,’ Helena said to Hera as she took another shower.

’I don’t see what’s wrong with that,’ Hera huffed.

’What’s up with you, you’re normally with me on this,’ Helena grumbled as she stepped out of the shower and picked a simple outfit, a pair of pants and a black tank top.

She’d decided against going with anything more dressy in case there was another attack.

’Think the other she-wolves will chew me out for what I’m wearing?’ Helena asked as she examined her outfit in the mirror.

’You care?’ Hera asked her.

’No, not really,’ Helena chuckled. ’But it does get tiring.’

’Being strong?’ her wolf asked.

Helena sighed. She didn’t need to vocalize it for her wolf to hear how she felt.

’Romeo and Ryder will protect us,’ Hera reminded her.

’But what if our heart needs to be protected from them?’ Helena asked. ’There are so many she-wolves here hoping to be his mate, what if one of them actually is?’

’We must trust in the Moon Goddess,’ Hera whispered.

Helena pursed her lips but didn’t respond.

Instead, she straightened her outfit and did one final check in the mirror. She made sure to bring weapons with her, two daggers in her shoes and another two at her hip.

’Why don’t you just bring the gun?’ Hera asked.

’We don’t want people to panic," Helena answered, rolling her eyes.

Bringing a gun was a declaration that your pack was at war. Helena had received the special gun at her graduation, its bullets contained wolfsbane and could kill a wolf in seconds.

"Well this is the best I can do," Helena sighed before turning away from her mirror and leaving her room.

By the time she made it to the banquet hall, the room was filled with wolves from many different packs.

She knew that this was only the tip of the iceberg.

Over the next two days, more wolves would arrive, it was only the higher-ranked ones that traveled early.

"You’re late," her mother Alyssa said as Helena joined them.

They were speaking to a group of visiting wolves, two women and one man seemed to be around Helena’s age.

"I got caught up," Helena sighed.

"If we weren’t so supportive of this I swear I would not—"

"Mom," Helena groaned as she nudged her mother, tilting her head toward the guests.

They weren’t allies of either the Blackmoon Pack or Stonehill so Helena didn’t know their guests.

"My stepdaughter," Raul said as he gestured for her to come closer to him.

He gave her an apologetic smile as she stood next to him.

"Helena, these are the Alpha and Beta of the Starrise Pack as well as their mates," Raul gestured toward the two older men and their mates who seemed to be significantly younger than them.

"Our children," the Alpha said as he pointed at the man and woman with them. "They seem to be your age, Miss Helena."

The fact that this Alpha knew her name caught Helena off guard.

Sure people knew that she was the ambassador for two packs, but only when they knew she was visiting.

"You know of me?" Helena asked not bothering to hide her shock.

The Alpha nodded.

"We wanted to invite you to visit us in the hopes that we could strike an alliance," he explained to Helena. "Unfortunately our contact said you were busy."

"Then it’s a good thing you could come tonight," Helena said with her most diplomatic smile.

"Indeed it is," the Alpha said slowly as he eyed Helena. "You are unmated, yes?"

Helena did her best not to frown. It was quite common for Alphas to push her toward their heirs or some even asked her to be their mate. Despite it happening often it still didn’t sit well with her.

"I am," Helena answered.

"Will you be here for the Blood Moon Ball?" the Alpha’s son asked, the conversation suddenly becoming interesting to him.

"It will depend on if my duties pull me away, Alpha," Helena answered.

She knew that saying no outright could impact the growing relationship between their packs so she decided to give a safe answer.

"You might meet your mate here if you stay," the Alpha’s son quickly said.

"Or I might not," Helena answered with a respectful smile.

She could already see the daggers that the Alpha and Beta’s daughters were throwing at her with their eyes.

The beta’s daughter was probably hoping to be mated to the Alpha’s son, and the Alpha’s daughter was most likely hoping to be mated to Romeo.

"If you’ll excuse me, I see some of my friends," Helena said as she slipped away and joined Rae at the other end of the hall.

As she tried to make her way she was repeatedly stopped by Alphas and Alpha Heirs that she’d met in the past.

Some simply wanted to say hi, while others wanted her to put in a good word with her uncle and stepfather.

Eventually, she was able to reach the other end where Rae seemed to be laughing at her suffering.

"Took you long enough," Rae teased with her arms crossed on her chest.

Unlike Helena Rae was wearing something more formal. She was in a short dress that made her glow.

Helena knew that most of the unmated men would be chasing after Rae.

"I’m glad that my suffering entertained you," Helena said as she joined Rae.

"Serves you right for making me wait," Rae grumbled.

"Don’t blame me, blame—" Helena stopped midsentence. She wasn’t sure if he wanted people to know what was going on between her and Romeo.

"Blame the Alpha?" a familiar female voice said, making Helena freeze.

Helena sighed and nodded slowly.

In the short time she’d been home she’d connected with these women despite their past.

"Where is he?" Helena and her group heard someone grumble as they decided to settle at a table near them.

"Maybe he’s got meetings or something," another she-wolf that Helena recognized as one of the women fawning over Romeo when they arrived said as she comforted her friend.

"Ugh, why do we need the Blood Moon to recognize our mates anyway?" the first one grumbled. "I’m definitely Alpha Romeo’s mate, I felt a connection when we met."

Next to Helena, Rae rolled her eyes so hard that Helena wouldn’t be surprised if she saw into her skull.

"You would make such cute pups," one of the she-wolves cooed.

Helena felt her temper rise and it was as if her gut was being twisted.

’Jealous?’ Hera teased.

’No,’ she scoffed.

’He’s ours,’ Hera growled in her head, making Helena smile. Her wolf might be trying to tease her but she knew Hera also loved Romeo and his wolf Ryder. They’d always loved the pair.

"I’d be happy to mate with the Alpha Heir of the Stonehill pack," one she-wolf said, drawing Helena’s attention.

This one seemed more timid than the others. She probably didn’t want to compete with her friends thinking she would lose to them.

"Ooooh, that’s a good one," the she-wolf that believed she was mated to Romeo said. "I heard they’re best friends. I used to think the Alpha Heir of Stonehill would make a good mate, but Blackmoon is so much bigger now."

Helena’s and Rae’s gazes met and both women broke out into laughter.

It seemed that they were loud enough to draw the group’s attention.

"Are you mocking us?" the she-wolf who seemed to be the leader of their little pack said as she stood up and marched up to Helena.

She was at least a few inches taller than Helena and was wearing a pair of heels that made her even taller.

Unlike Helena, who chose to dress practically, this she-wolf was in a red bodycon that seemed more like a torture device to Helena.

"Who are you even?" the she-wolf said as her gaze scanned Helena from head to toe, clearly judging her.

"Probably some she-wolves lucky to have been invited to this party," one of her companions scoffed.

It was Jenna and Chloe’s turn to laugh, unlike the guests, they knew exactly who Helena and Rae were. They’d also been there, done that, and knew it was useless to judge others that way.

"This is Eleanor, she’s the daughter of the Silverfang Pack Alpha," her companion pointed out. "Do you really think you have a better chance with Alpha Romeo and his friend than she does?"

Helena smiled and shook her head.

"Oh darling, I sure as hell think I do."
