Is It Wrong To Love My StepBrother Alpha Mate? -

Chapter 120: /chap
When they injected her with wolfsbane the third or fourth time around, Helena barely felt the effects.
While she felt the pain and was weakened, she no longer felt the poison burning as it coursed through her veins. It was now merely an inconvenience, but she still played the part, allowing herself to pretend to fall unconscious and shout in pain.
It had been hours since she’d last had a visitor. The witch from earlier hadn’t come back to torment her, and Alphonse seemed to stay away.
Eventually, someone had come back to feed her and give her water to drink, so they probably had no plans of killing her just yet.
Helena spent what time she had on her hands thinking about where she was and why someone she’d considered to be a friend had her kidnapped and poisoned.
Based on what he’d told her when he believed she was so disoriented with poison, he was angry at Romeo for some reason.
She couldn’t quite figure out how Romeo’s and Alphonse’s paths had crossed.
Alphonse was around five years younger than Romeo, two years younger than her. He said his pack was attacked, torn apart by a selfish Alpha that wanted more powers, it’s what brought him to Sunfire city, he’d been seeking sanctuary.
Helena rested her head against the cold, damp wall when she heard the door opening.
She closed her eyes and groaned, pretending to still feel the effects of the wolfsbane in her system.
"You know, I don’t like it that we have to keep you drugged," Alphonse’s familiar voice said as he entered the room, his steps echoing. "I hate that I can’t even hold you. I can see you’re in pain, but for some reason, Falon says you’re a danger, that you’re more powerful than I know."
She heard Alphonse take a deep breath as the door closed behind him and he walked deeper into the room.
"She doesn’t know I know you quite well, Helena," Alphonse said. "She doesn’t know just how many hours I’ve spent marveling at your strength, praying that the Moon Goddess would grant you to me as my mate."
Helena wanted to argue, she wanted to tell Alphonse that she wasn’t some gift for the Moon Goddess to give, but she bit back her anger.
She needed to play a part. She had to survive long enough to come up with a plan to escape or to give Romeo and the others more time to find her.
"I bet you’d make an amazing Luna," Alphonse groaned, the way he spoke sounding a little bit more like arousal. Helena wanted to vomit at the way he was speaking to her. "You’d make an amazing Luna for me."
Luna?
Helena had been friends with Alphonse for years, and she was certain that the younger man was no Alpha.
She was an Alpha, Romeo and Victor were Alphas, but Alphonse? He was of ranked heritage, for sure. Maybe the grandson of an Alpha, but not an Alpha himself.
"Let me tell you a story, Helena, my love, my darling, my dream girl, my Luna, I wish you were conscious enough to hear this, but I doubt you’d sit long enough to listen," Alphonse said as he cupped her face with his hand.
It took every ounce of willpower on her end not to slap his hand away and tell him not to touch her.
"I was young, I wasn’t even eighteen when my dad died," Alphonse said. It was a story Helena had heard before. He’d told her how his father died the day his pack was attacked.
"I lied to you," Alphonse said with a sigh. "Dad wasn’t a warrior, he was an Alpha, the Alpha of the Dark Ridge pack, and that mate of yours murdered him in cold blood."
Helena could feel her anger rising.
Dark Ridge pack, she’d heard of that pack, Romeo had told her of that pack, and how its Alpha had been abusing its people.
"I don’t know if that Mate of yours has told you about my pack, I’m sure he’s taken power from more Alphas than he should," Alphonse spat. "I was there, you know. I saw when he pulled my father’s beating heart out of his chest. I was so scared he’d come after me next, so I ran."
Helena wanted to speak up, but she knew the moment she let him know that the wolfsbane wasn’t giving the desired effect, she’d run out of time.
"You know, I befriended you thinking I could mate with his sister and eventually take over his pack," Alphonse confessed. It made Helena sick to know she was targeted by a man she thought was her friend. "But when I learned you were his stepsister, I set my sights on the other one. I, however, didn’t quite expect to fall for you. How do you do it, Helena? Make someone who should hate you fall in love?"
Helena wanted to punch him for even thinking of using Rae, but once again, she held back. She knew she’d have her chance, she just needed to wait for her time.
"When I saw you pregnant, I was hoping that it was some Alpha that made you happy," Alphonse continued to rant. "But to find out that it was his child!? His child, Helena? If it weren’t for my love for you, that babe would be dead by now, but I’m willing to overlook that. I’m willing to raise that bastard’s son as my own. I just need to get rid of him."
Helena felt a chill run up her spine.
"I’ll kill that Mate of yours, Helena, and when the time come’s I’ll take you as mine," Alphonse hissed as he pressed his lips to hers.’
Helena fought weakly, not giving away that she was almost at full strength.
"You just don’t know it’s me, that’s why you’re fighting so hard," Alphonse groaned. "Don’t worry, Helena. We’ll be happy and with that kid you had with that sadistic ass we’ll take over his pack, we’ll be unstopable together."
She heard as Alphonse reached for something, then she felt the piercing sensation as he injected her with wolfsbane again.
What kind of sick person poisoned someone they claimed to love?
He’d kept her under the whole time she was there, and yet he continued to profess his love for her.
Helena waited to feel the unease she got with wolfsbane the last time they’d injected her, but it did not come.
To her surprise, it felt like she was now fully immune to its effects.
"I’m sorry, my Luna," Alphonse said, pressing his forehead against hers. "I’m sorry I have to do this, but keeping you under is the only way to protect you. I know you’ll go after him, try to get to him, and that will just give that witch Falon reason to kill you. I can’t let her kill you, I can’t let her take my mate from me."
Alphonse eventually pulled away, and Helena heard his receding steps as he left her alone.
Soon she’d escape, soon she’d expose to the world what kind of a sick person Alphonse was, and she’d be able to tell her mate about their son, about little Ronan who was the best of both of them.
She knew she had time.
Her next visitor would probably come by in the next two to three hours, she’d observed the intervals. It made them complacent, knowing that she was all drugged up. They didn’t worry that she’d try to escape.
Helena made quick work of her bindings, pulling them apart as she took in the room, searching for weapons she could use.
Her captors were sloppy. They’d left a dagger in the corner and what looked to be a few syringes still with remnants of wolfsbane.
As much as Helena didn’t want to harm other wolves, she needed to make an escape. She had to take advantage of what she had, and if it was a dagger laced with wolfsbane, then maybe, just maybe, she could make it out of the prison all on her own.
Running a few more checks, Helena waited a little longer.
She knew if she tried to escape too soon, Alphonse and his men would be nearby. If she waited long enough, they would be going about whatever tasks they had to do.
When she felt that more than enough time had passed, she gave a single knock on the steel door that they kept locked, and just as she had hoped, she heard a few worried voices from the other side.
Without any hesitation, she watched it open as two men came running in.
That’s when she made her move, that’s when she attacked and with a single motion she stabbed her guards, leaving them unconscious and crying out in pain from the wolfsbane that coated her blade.
Taking what weapons they had on them, she ran. She ran as fast as she could, searching for a way out.
