Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix -
Chapter 1246 - 1246: Silent action
"I just thought that it would be better for this mission," Rain said. "You want to let loose for the first time in a while, right? So, a long-range weapon would be better to support you."
"Just use the Magic Weapons path then," Sealyn said.
"I am planning that, but it is pretty cool to use a bow while firing magic swords as well, right?" Rain said. "I also developed this technique."
Rain summoned ten mana swords and then made them spin around his waist. It was pretty fast, so it could be used for defense and attack as well. Against massive hordes of enemies, the damage would be massive.
"Wouldn't it be better to just use the same technique as before?" Sealyn asked. "The violent vortex of water against flying monsters should be even more effective."
"You can do that if you want. I will just support you with the bow," Rain said.
Sealyn rolled her eyes… just using the magic bow would be enough. Her father was hard to get sometimes; most of the time, he didn't make any sense, actually. Still, she knew that he wouldn't mess up when it comes to her safety and covering for her. So, there was no point in worrying about it.
"All right, it is fine to go," Rain said when the group reunited. "Stick to the plan, and we will be fine."
Everyone nodded, and then the other group began to dash toward the west while Rain and Sealyn dashed toward the south. Before long, they soon found some clouds in the distance… clouds that were moving and making a creepy noise of flies.
The insectoid swarms were a grotesque sight, a dark cloud of massive flies with ominous grey and black stripes adorning their oversized bodies. Their wings, as if crafted from the shadows themselves, beat rapidly, creating a disconcerting buzzing sound that echoed through the air.
As Rain and Sealyn observed, the individual insects within the swarm were nightmarish in appearance. Their faces, or what could be identified as faces, were a disturbing amalgamation of angular features and unsettling proportions. The compound eyes, numerous and multifaceted, seemed to pierce through the dim light with an otherworldly glow.
The mouthparts, resembling sharp, needle-like structures, hinted at a predatory nature that sent shivers down Rain's spine.
The entire swarm moved in an organized chaos, a collective entity driven by a shared malevolence. The sight of those insectoid creatures, their strange markings, and unnerving visages made Rain's skin crawl, instilling a sense of unease as the impending battle unfolded.
"Ew, gross…" Rain said. "I am saying this a lot lately, and I sound like a girl."
"There is a lot more than we had expected, but we can't see their base from here," Sealyn said. "That being said, it is unlikely that they will let us get closer."
"It is time to fight then," Rain said. "You can let loose and do whatever you want so that I will cover you, but on the next mission, you will probably take the support role again. We will have to take turns with this kind of tactic in order to maximize the results."
"All right… hehe, I won't even need support against these small fries," Sealyn said.
Sealyn charged toward the monsters while holding her spear with all her might. She skates on the ground while summoning a torrent of water under her feet… Rain followed while using Impulse, but soon he slowed down when he saw the size of flies… they were over five meters tall.
"Woah…while their presences are weak, this still is quite something," Rain said.
Sealyn reached the monsters, and they tried to surround her, but a single swing of her spear split dozens of them in half. It looked like their size didn't immediately make them become tougher.
Still, they had their own tricks as well… it didn't take long for them to finish surrounding Sealyn while keeping a distance from her spear. At the same time, the flapping of their winds made the air vibrate, emitting a weird frequency that reached her body and immediately made her feel bad.
Sealyn felt something inside her growing and making her feel uneasy, but soon, dozens of enemies were pierced by red arrows, and she found some openings in their formation that she could use.

"They are very weak," Rain thought when he received those notifications. "I guess I will have to equip and use more skills of the thief path if I want to unlock the archer path sometime today."
Still, there were so many skills of a thief that Rain could use in a fight like that… he should have thought of that before the battle instead of improvising right now. Regardless, he kept firing the arrows and preventing the flies from surrounding Sealyn.
Level 30: Stealthy Strikes - Enhances the ability to deliver swift and precise strikes without alerting enemies.
Level 40: Quick Step - Gains the ability to move extremely fast through short distances within shadows or darkness, facilitating quick escapes or strategic positioning.
Level 20: Silent Movement - Master the technique of moving silently and without making noise, reducing the risk of detection.
"I guess these will do," Rain thought.
Rain slowed down on firing the arrows as he used those skills consciously, but soon he increased his speed again… some of the flies tried to fly toward him, but Rain only smirked. He summoned a bunch of mana swords and fired them, making them destroy the bodies of the flies completely.
"Maybe I should use the ominous sword instead and save some mana," Rain thought.
"I would rather if you didn't use me against this type of enemy," Elisabetha said. "If you must, use some elemental magic to cover my blade."
"I guess even you have your own issues in a situation like this…" Rain said.
