Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix -
Chapter 1208 - 1208: The life of a tree
As Rain discreetly followed Danny through the night, his parental concern growing, he trailed his son until they reached the city. However, Rain's attention was abruptly changed when he detected the faint steps of numerous invisible individuals. Astonishingly, each of them exhibited mastery over the domain and the water mirror technique and skills Rain had personally taught a select few.
It became obvious that Danny had acquired a cohort of similarly skilled individuals, raising questions about how he had managed to assemble such a group without Rain's awareness. The silent but proficient footsteps led them with a shared purpose, leaving Rain both intrigued and concerned about the nature of their collaboration.
The invisible group's destination became evident as they continued their journey—they were headed straight for the red light district.
"Well, it was obvious," Rain shrugged. "A bunch of people still train up to late in the night, so it makes sense that he would feel embarrassed skipping hard training to have some fun with cat girls or something. Bad time to think about that when I am trying to unlock the chastity path."
Rain didn't know if his kids remained single for one hundred years, but women would have an easier time if compared to men in that situation. Healthy dudes are horny all the time, after all. The problem was Raiin's genes that were passed down.
"Time to spend my time doing something more meaningful," Rain thought. "Not like worrying about my kids isn't meaningful, but stalking is a bit too much."
Now free of worries, Rain was able to focus on his real job… but on the next day, he was already sick of it. Trying not to let any anger, greed, pride, lust, gluttony, sloth, and envy be part of his life was difficult…. I might as well call that the goody-two-shoes path.
"I guess I am still very human… I didn't transcend to the next level of existence since I dislike the sin's power, and I am not a saint to endure a life free of worldly desires," Rain thought.
"You should at least try to learn the temperance path for now," Sakaki said. "What will happen if you lose control in a fight? The higher the level of the wrath path, the more insane you will become. Elisabetha's anger will work with yours, and then essentially, you will become a human with the essence of a dragon."
Sakaki had a point… Rain could tell that he was getting annoyed much faster than before. He had never been a very calm guy in the first place… at least since he returned.
The Temperance Path is a disciplined and balanced progression aimed at cultivating self-control, moderation, and harmony in individuals. It encourages practitioners to find equilibrium in their actions and emotions, avoiding extremes and excesses.
Through the Temperance Path, individuals seek to refine their character, achieve inner balance, and foster a harmonious coexistence with the world around them. All parameters + 100
Level 1: Equilibrium Initiation Embarks on the Temperance Path, initiating a journey toward self-control and moderation. Gains a passive effect that enhances resistance to impulsive actions and external influences. When fighting without getting angry, all of the bonus parameters of this path will be duplicated.
In the end, after the living the life of a monk for three days, eating the minimum, meditating day and night with his eyes covered, and ignoring all of his worldly desires, Rain finally awakened the temperance path… with first skill alone, it already countered the power and potential of the wrath's path.
"Level it up a bit, and let's see the results," Sakaki said. "... How do you feel, Elisabetha?"
"Pretty calm, actually," Elisabetha said. "I feel like I am enjoying the breeze of a very pleasant afternoon."
"That confirms it… the path also affects Elisabetha," Sakaki said. "If we find a way to make you obtain that, we will control your rage, and then the counter effects of your power will lose their influence over you."
"I can obtain the skills from the system, but it will take a while to reach this kind of path," Elisabetha said. "I also have a feeling that it won't be easy considering the nature of power and of this path."
Elisabetha raised a valid point: attempting to acquire the Temperance Path for her and the relics was akin to attempting to perform a backflip and front flip simultaneously. The inherent nature of her power and the essence of the Temperance Path presented a challenging conflict.
Despite their awareness of this challenge, they decided to set it aside for the moment, recognizing it as a problem to be addressed in next time.
In the meantime, their immediate concern was Rain. Fully immersed in the Zen practices and devoted to unlocking the new paths, Rain appeared deeply engrossed in his meditative state. The goody-two-shoes path demanded rigorous discipline and self-control, encouraging a life free from the influence of the Seven Deadly Sins.
As Rain continued to meditate and focus on his inner balance, Sakaki and Elisabetha observed with both curiosity and worry. The Temperance Path, with its initial skill, had already showcased promising results in countering the effects of Wrath's power. Sakaki was keen to see the continued development and its impact on Rain's temperament. Unless he were to become a shell of his former self…
"Do you think that he lost the plot?" Elisabetha asked.
"No… knowing him, he will stay like this until someone slaps him or until he unlocks all those paths," Sakaki said. "He is about to unlock the seven deadly sins paths as well, so he needs those to counter them. While I wait for that, I will focus on my own activities as well."
The next few days were rather boring for Elisabetha. With Rain living the life of a tree, nothing major happened. The most interesting thing that she saw was people looking at him, wondering if he had gone insane. In the end… they weren't that far from the truth.
