Chapter 45: A New Discovery!
Settling his parents, Mo Jian was preparing to return to the border when he received a call from Zhao Tian.
"Young Master, I’ve received another message from a different team," Zhao Tian’s excited voice came through the Spirit Link.
"Really?! Quick, send me their location," Mo Jian responded, his face filled with shock and disbelief.
’What is going on?!’ he thought.
"Yes, Young Master. I’ll send it immediately."
With that, Mo Jian ended the conversation and waited impatiently for the location. Shortly after, his Spirit Link vibrated, and a new message appeared on the screen.
Reading the message, he discovered that the new location was in the opposite direction of his current position.
Without hesitation, he dashed toward it at full speed.
With more spirit veins, the Thousand Wealth Chamber would have a stable source of income, making them unrivaled in the western region.
But what truly shocked him was how quickly the team had been able to find the spirit veins.
The Western Border had always been an unclaimed territory, home to ferocious monsters.
Previously, it had been a paradise for beast hunters, but with the appearance of vengeful spirits, it was abandoned for decades, turning into a playground for those restless souls.
Who would have expected that this forsaken land would house such rare resources?
And now, they would soon belong to him.
As Mo Jian rushed toward the new location, he encountered an increasing number of vengeful wisps and Restless Phantoms. More concerning was that their numbers kept growing with each passing moment.
Bang!
His sword cut through yet another group of Restless Phantoms. This was the fifth wave he had faced, consisting entirely of those sinister entities.
"What is going on? Why are there so many in this direction?" he muttered to himself.
Had his weapon not been forged from Ember Flame, he would have either been killed or exhausted by now.
The newly improved scabbard, which prolonged the longevity of Ember Flame, gave him the confidence to venture deeper into the heart of the vengeful spirits’ domain.
Just as he prepared to advance, another group of Restless Phantoms rushed toward him.
An eerie whisper echoed in his ears, his soul drowning in endless wails, but Mo Jian was already prepared. He was gradually building resistance to their tactics.
Whoosh!
He vanished from his spot, reappearing before the Restless Phantoms. Raising his sword, he swung it in a wide arc.
Screech!
The moment his blade touched them, they let out miserable screams before dissolving into thin air. A small portion of their essence was absorbed by the sword.
This was the power of Ember Flame.
In less than a minute, the Restless Phantoms were vanquished, and Mo Jian pressed onward into the forest.
After hours of continuous combat, exhaustion crept up on him, forcing him to rest. He quickly found an open space near a massive tree and set up various formations.
Sitting on a dry log, Mo Jian ate his rations while gazing at the darkening forest, lost in thought.
Over the horizon, the sun had already set, and shadows crept in, shrouding the land in an eerie gloom.
’We underestimated the power of the Vengeful Spirits,’ he mused, biting hard into his dried meat.
’When I return, I must push for a large-scale purge of the Restless Phantoms. At least fifty miles of the forest must be cleared.’
A look of determination flashed in his eyes.
Previously, he had only planned to clear two to three kilometers, but after witnessing the overwhelming number of Restless Phantoms, he had changed his mind.
Two hours later, with his spiritual energy and mental power replenished, Mo Jian resumed his journey.
Whoosh!
He swiftly dodged an approaching Restless Phantom in the distance, taking a detour. As he ventured deeper, their numbers grew alarmingly.
Deciding to avoid unnecessary battles, he only engaged them when he had no other choice.
Using this strategy, he moved swiftly, covering vast distances in seconds as he neared his destination.
Along the way, he witnessed thousands of Restless Phantoms roaming aimlessly. Even from a distance, the sight sent shivers down his spine.
"Where are they all coming from?"
He refused to believe they had simply spawned from thin air.
The deeper he ventured, the more he uncovered about the Vengeful Spirits—and the more he felt compelled to learn.
After traveling for over eight hours, he finally arrived at his destination. But what lay before him left him utterly stunned.
A colossal ruin loomed in the distance, its towering stone walls weathered by time and battle, covered in cracks and jagged scars.
The once-majestic entrance gate had long since crumbled, leaving behind shattered pillars and half-buried archways adorned with faded carvings.
Moss and creeping vines slithered over fractured bricks, while eerie drawings, barely visible under layers of dust, lined the walls.
The ground was uneven, littered with broken tiles and rusted remnants of ancient weapons.
At the decrepit entrance, thousands of vengeful spirits emerged, their wails forming a symphony of agony.
Standing frozen, Mo Jian felt his heart pound against his chest.
’Is this the source of the Vengeful Spirits?!’
He took a deep breath, forcing himself to stay calm.
’Why would the team choose this location?’ he wondered in confusion.
Quickly, he retrieved a Pulse-Seeking Compass from his spatial pouch.
The moment he activated it, the compass vibrated violently, pointing straight toward the ruins.
Mo Jian’s eyes narrowed.
"There must be something of immense energy hidden inside," he muttered.
Then, his gaze flickered toward movement in the distance. He spotted two figures hiding beneath a thick shrub opposite his position.
"There they are!"
Immediately, he took out his Spirit Link and sent a message to the team captain.
In the opposite direction, one of the two men hiding under the shrub felt his Spirit Link vibrate.
He checked the message and, upon reading it, a look of shock spread across his face.
"The Young Master has arrived!" he whispered.
"What?!" His partner’s eyes widened in disbelief. "Where?!"
"There." He pointed toward Mo Jian’s hiding spot behind a massive tree.
When they finally saw him, a wave of relief washed over their faces.
’Finally, we can end this mission,’ they thought.
Suddenly—
A loud, guttural scream erupted from the heart of the ruins, shaking Mo Jian and the two men to their core.
