Chapter 63: An Old Flame
Chapter 63: An Old Flame
(Casey’s POV)
___________
I remained seated on the chair for a while until I had myself under control. My fingers had stopped trembling and my breathing had evened out. Only then did I get up from the chair and begin to limp towards my doctor’s office. I didn’t care about my ripped pants and the fact that it showed off my bandaged thigh, I simply made my way through the lobby.
Doctors and nurses were walking hurriedly to and fro, and I did my best to avoid them. I got into the elevator and when I got to the floor I was after, I was sweating already. I had already exerted so much energy. I needed painkillers as well to dull this pain because there was no way I was going to let this injury bench me. I still had a wedding to plan.
Soon, I got to the office with the tag SCOTT MD plastered over the door. I knocked and turned the knob. I found the doctor at his desk, he was busy on his computer.
"Scott?" I muttered as I closed the door behind me.
He looked up from his computer and smiled at me. He was a handsome man, and also my ex. Although what we had at the time was never really serious. He was the first man I got with when I arrived at Silicon Valley, shortly after I had gone through a pretty nasty breakup. Scott was a sweet man, but at the time, I was still way too hurt to get myself into another commitment. Thankfully, he was able to move on and fall in love with someone else. However, I kept him on as my doctor.
"You’re lucky, you know," he said as he got to his feet. He came to assist me to the examination bed backed up against the wall. He then helped me sit in it. "I’ll be on duty in an hour, and I might not have been able to see you."
"Well, let’s make this snappy then, shall we?" I replied.
Scott smiled wryly as he looked down at my thigh and studied the wound. He then began to peel the bandages off.
"Who did this?" he asked after a while. "Was it you?"
"Why?"
"It’s quite rough." He said, "They did it correctly, but you’d know a professional when you see their work."
"Well, it was enough to stop the bleeding, wasn’t it?"
"That’s correct." Scott took off the bandages and studied the wound itself. It still looked angry and the gash was red. "Looks nasty. This is a knife wound Casey, were you stabbed?"
"It was an accident," I told him. The last thing I needed right now was to have him worried about me. Enough people already knew about what I was going through, I was not going to add to the list.
"An accident, huh?" He scoffed as he stepped away from me. He walked to his desk and pulled out a drawer, which revealed a box of medical tools, he then pulled out pincers. "I know a stab wound when I see one, okay? And generally, people don’t stab other people by accident."
"It’s no big deal, okay? Just treat the damn thing."
"Sure," he said and studied the wound. "Well, there’s no internal bleeding. The only thing that can get worse with such an injury is infection. So, I’ll give you something for the wound. It’ll help speed up the healing process and also make sure that it doesn’t scar."
"Also, the pain. I need something for it."
Scott nodded at that, "I’ll give you something for that as well."
He stepped away from me and returned to his desk where he dropped the pincers, he then wrote out a prescription. He made his way to a shelf, opened it, and took out a tube. You’re going to rub this on the injury, twice daily. You do it after you clean the wound."
"Whoa... clean the wound?"
"Uhhuh..." He nodded, "Every morning and every night, you change the dressing. And when you take off the old one, you apply the balm before putting in the new one. It won’t be for long. By the third day or so, you’ll be good as new."
"Okay then, if you say so," I said.
Scott applied the balm over the injury. It was soothing and calm. He then changed the bandage and fixed it in well. I could see now how his job was different from Jace’s. He picked up the prescription and handed it to me, take this to the pharmacy, they’ll give you something for the pain. You also need more bandages."
"I have those at home," I told him.
"That’s good. You don’t have to pay, okay? I already indicated in the prescription that they should charge it to my account."
"Scott," I muttered. "Why would you do that?"
"I’m just doing it for a friend," he replied.
"Thank you," I said. I got down from the bed and looked at him, "how’s your wife?"
Scott smiled, "she’s good. You should come around, you know? I’d love for you both to meet."
I smiled at that, "I don’t think so. Thank you very much for this, Scott."
I left his office and from there, I went straight to the pharmacy where I got the painkillers. I also bought a bottle of water and I took the first dose right there. I then limped out of the hospital and back to the car. Jace was busy on his phone, he hurriedly slipped it into his pocket when he saw me approach as he unlocked the door.
"What took you so long?" Jace asked when I got in, "I already had the mind to storm the hospital and search for you."
I smiled at him. I tossed the pills into the backseat, and he studied the new dressing Scott had given the wound.
"Not bad," Jace muttered.
I chuckled at that but said nothing. As I stared at him, all I could think about was Kira and her wish to stop Jace from being with anyone.
"Jace," I said suddenly. "We’re gonna have to do something about Kira."
"What do you mean?"
"She’s just so determined to find your side chick and-"
He cut me off with a deep searing kiss, his tongue swirling inside my mouth as he leaned in against me. He then pulled away from me, breathing hard as he stared at me.
"Let’s talk about Kira tomorrow, let the rest of today just be about you and me, okay?"
I nodded, breathing hard. Then, I reached out and grabbed him by the collar, pulling him close so I could kiss him again. We were moaning against each other as I felt his hands on me. Suddenly, he was too far away, I wanted to feel him up close. I wanted his bare skin against mine. I got off my seat and squeezed myself over to his seat. Straddling him while he adjusted the seat, causing it to recline as I loomed over him.
His hands reached under my hoodie as I held his face in my hand, kissing him deeply. All the passion and heat that I had been fighting off since he arrived on my doorstep last night had returned. And I was letting it all out now!
Jace was mine. And no one was taking him from me!
Not even Kira!
