Chapter 201: Near-death Experience
Chapter 201: Near-death Experience
Earlier before the game started, Rayen whispered to Adrian to set the ball as far as he could toward the edge of the net. Even without understanding Rayen’s reason, Adrian did what he instructed.
And so, the game continued with their unpredictable plays. Well, not so unpredictable. But even if the other side did predict their next moves, they wouldn’t be able to catch up with Rayen’s speed.
It wasn’t that Rayen suddenly had superhuman speed, just that he had an advantage with the terrain they were in.
Moving on sand was hard, but with the increase of his feet ’control, Rayen had an easier time running on sand than the other participants.
The game ended with Team 1’s win without much surprise. Yet, Yeo Haru was still bitter about it.
There were some more games after. It wasn’t just beach volleyball. They played three more games before lunch arrived.
However, the results of the following games weren’t as good as their first game. With the lack of Team 1’s cohesiveness, they lost those three games.
By the time lunch arrived, Yeo Haru was snickering about their win.
"Hahaha. Look, brother. Do you want some?"
Yeo Haru pulled out a chicken leg from one out of the many plates in their team’s table. This was the winning team’s reward — a feast.
Rayen and the others on Team 2 could only look on enviously as Yeo Haru waved the chicken leg around, teasing them. Finally, Xu Jiji had had enough and stopped Yeo Haru.
"Hey, can you just eat?" Xu Jiji admonished him.
Yeo Haru stopped for a moment and stared at him. A few moments later, he decided to relent, sitting back down on his seat. But for the last time, he took a large bite out of the leg and grinned.
’You still owe me granola bars, you brat.’
Rayen pursed his lips in disappointment as he munched on their own food for today’s lunch — rice and grilled fish.
That was all.
Compared to the table of the other team, which had dozens of plates of seafood, grilled chicken, salads and more, their own table just looked pitiful. And even the seats on the table were vacated by their uncooperative members.
Ren was beside the now blackened and unlit bonfire at the center of the camp, while Oh Heejun had climbed one of the trees, scrolling through his phone as he ate his food share.
’Seriously, is he a monkey? Can’t they at least pretend they get along just in front of the cameras?’
Rayen sighed. So as Adrian — though not because of the same reason as Rayen, but because of Oh Heejun’s phone addiction.
Just then, Rayen noticed a big figure from the other table standing up.
Mr. Big News was holding onto a plate as he approached one of the staff members.
"Can I share some of my food with someone from the other team?" Mr. Big News asked.
The staff could only look on hesitantly before Plotter made his way before the big guy.
Looking up with a smile, he answered Mr. Big News’s question. "Sure."
"Oh, thanks..." Mr. Big News warily stepped away from Plotter.
He approached the lonely Oh Heejun from under the tree.
"Hey, I brought you some—"
Mr. Big News’s words wasn’t finished speaking yet when Oh Heejun yelped and cursed.
"Oh, beep!"
The tree’s canopy shook as Oh Heejun nearly slipped out of the branch. He didn’t, though the phone in his hand flew out of his grip. Fortunately, Mr. Big News was under him and caught it.
Watching the scene from the corner of his eyes, a traumatic flashback suddenly occurred on Rayen. He shuddered at the thought of that familiar message that appeared before him back then.
"Thank goodness," Rayen exclaimed as the phone was brought to safety.
"What happened?" Adrian asked, also drawn in by the commotion.
Rayen shrugged. "I just witnessed a near-death experience."
Adrian looked at him, puzzled.
Well, it wouldn’t hurt warning them.
"Once, I was taking a shower..."
But then, Rayen paused. He gazed at Adrian.
It would probably hurt telling this superstitious guy that he was using his phone while taking a shower.
He feigned a cough.
"Nothing."
"Huh?"
"It might get filtered by the censorship, so I can’t just say it outright," Rayen reasoned. "Just, I suggest you should never put your phone into danger."
After the small skirmish that happened, the lunch resumed in a normal manner.
"After lunch, everyone can enjoy the rest of the day anyhow. At dusk, the scenario will end naturally," Plotter announced.
With the cameras dispersing, Rayen immediately distanced himself with his unbearable team.
They were here to heal, not to be surrounded with his stressful teammates.
But with nothing to do on this island, he just went straight back to their log cabins, however, he was intercepted along the way by Yeo Haru and the other kids from former Team Seven Flowers, mainly Xu Jiji and Xi Huan.
Even though Rayen didn’t know how old Xi Huan was, her mental age was definitely along the line with Yeo Haru and Xu Jiji. And these three seemed to have formed a clique.
"Brother, let’s go swim at the beach," Xu Jiji said.
Rayen stopped in his tracks, staring at Yeo Haru behind the unusually excited Xu Jiji.
"Swim? That brat?" Rayen asked, pointing at Yeo Haru.
"I’m just accompanying them," Yeo Haru reasoned, shifting his gaze away.
With that, Rayen laughed and followed them. The rest of the day passed as he accompanied them by the beach, playing and laughing as they teased Yeo Haru with the water.
In the meantime, the participants had also gathered in the same place, enjoying the sea.
Even if Rayen didn’t want to admit it... Being on this island felt refreshing. And before he knew it, the healing trip came to an end.
They didn’t exit the island through the cruise ship. The whole scenario just disappeared as the sunset approached, returning into the familiar stark white and empty studio.
