Chapter 200: Beach Tournament
Chapter 200: Beach Tournament
With a loud click coming from the stove, Ren finished with cooking the ramen. He took the lid off the pot and the air was filled with its spicy scent, making Rayen’s stomach cry out loud.
Gulp.
Rayen watched Ren’s back, eagerly waiting for the cooked Ramen — even though he didn’t ask.
’Really! I didn’t ask for it!’
However, as Ren took the pot with him, he passed by the living room and silently left Rayen who was following him with his gaze. Ren opened the bedroom’s door and closed it shut. Then, Adrian’s joyful voice echoed loudly from inside.
"Thanks, Eyeliner babe."
Rayen blinked repeatedly.
’What? I thought...’
He gazed at the closed door of the bedroom and the mess that Ren left in the kitchen, unable to fathom what just happened.
’Hey! What about me?! Didn’t you just ask if I wanted some?!’
Rayen stood up, headed to the kitchen to check if Ren left some for him in the pot, only to see the real mess in the kitchen. It was as if what was cooked here wasn’t just ramen.
’He really didn’t leave me some... not that I asked, though.’
With a click of his tongue, Rayen grabbed another pot and a packet of ramen to cook for himself.
Just then, the door to the bedroom opened, and Ren appeared. Rayen glanced back.
"I thought you didn’t want some? You didn’t answer me if you wanted it," Ren said.
Rayen ignored him as Ren took two glasses of water by himself and disappeared into the bedroom again.
After all of that, Rayen decided.
’I still hate that guy, after all.’
...
As the second day started, a loud singing woke Rayen up from his slumber.
"Stuck in the flow of the crowd.
Even when I don’t know where it’s headed."
With a scowl, Rayen lifted the blanket from his face. His vision was still blurry from sleep, and the light from the window blinded him.
"Still, I hope it’s a good place.
Yet, why?
I don’t feel the badump badump."
’What the hell is that?!’
He glanced around, but there was no one in the living room. Suddenly, the door to the bedroom opened. Adrian and Ren walked out, still groggy from their sleep, but they too had a frown on their face.
"Who’s singing?" Adrian grumbled, glaring Rayen’s direction. But when he realized it wasn’t Rayen, he turned his gaze away.
Then, the three realized that the noise was coming from outside.
Finally, the singing stopped, and the energetic voice of Plotter reverberated throughout the camp, waking everyone up.
"Rise and shine! Please wake up and eat your breakfast then head to the shore at 9 o’clock~"
After that, it was silent.
’Damn Plotter.’
Rayen’s good night sleep ended, and the second day began. They ate breakfast which Ren cooked with the left-over foods from the fridge.
Rayen wasn’t expecting to have some of his share, but surprisingly, Ren also included him and Adrian.
Rayen stared at the fried rice, bacon and egg on the plate before him.
"....."
Meanwhile, Adrian and Ren sat down on the table and ate.
"Don’t like it?" Ren asked.
Rayen didn’t reply immediately. He didn’t know what to feel about it, so he only sat down.
"If I didn’t like it, would you take it back?" he asked, his tone a bit defensive.
Ren didn’t respond and just silently ate. Adrian shook his head, the corner of his lips turning up as though amused.
...
The participants gathered on the shore where Plotter, the Director, the staff members, and the cameras had been waiting.
The shore was arranged into a volleyball court, with lines on the sand and a net in the middle.
"Welcome~" Plotter greeted as everyone finally arrived. "For today, we will have a tournament! Are you getting excited?"
’Yeah, right. After you woke us up so early.’
Rayen rolled his eyes at the back of his mind. Most of the participants echoed the same thoughts.
However, their unamused reactions didn’t faze Plotter at all. His wide grin remained plastered on his face.
"Okay! Let’s get this tournament started! Members of the two teams in the final round, please gather round!"
To get this over with, the members of the two teams gathered, each on the opposite side of the net.
"Our first game for the day is beach volleyball!"
"Ugh. First thing in the morning..." Adrian complained.
But his complaints had no way of stopping the next segment of their healing trip. With a bit of warming up, the game began.
"Okay. I’ll go," Adrian stretched his shoulders, glancing back at his teammates. "Who will play with me?"
Rayen raised his hand.
He might not be the tallest member in this team, but he had an ace up his sleeve.
Before they went to the court, Rayen approached Adrian and whispered something to his ears.
"Let’s go," Adrian said, not doubting him.
Only two players from each team were needed in this game. Team 2 decided to go with the tallest participants in their team. Mr. Big News and Yeo Haru stepped up.
Rock, paper, scissors was used to decide the team who will serve the ball first.
Yeo Haru smirked and taunted. "Can you beat us with your height?"
"Who are you talking with, brat?" Adrian retaliated.
The two held out their hands.
Then they chanted in unison, "Rock, paper, scissors!"
Adrian: Rock
Yeo Haru: Scissors
Adrian grinned. "Ha. You sure you can win with me?"
Yeo Haru scrunched his nose before going into his position.
A staff member tossed the ball to Adrian.
Prrrrfffft!
The sound of the whistle signalled the start of the game.
Adrian tossed the ball into the air, running after it before jumping up and serving.
Whoosh!
Mr. Big News and Yeo Haru watched the ball as it went into their side. Then, Yeo Haru went under the ball and received it successfully. It flew over precisely above Mr. Big News who spiked it effortlessly over Adrian’s block.
As Yeo Haru saw that Adrian’s height was lacking, he immediately cheered.
"Yey! It’s ours!"
However, he didn’t expect Rayen to be so fast. Instantly, the ball was sent into the air as Rayen intercepted it before it landed on the ground.
Yeo Haru watched with wide eyes.
Rayen smirked.
"Nice!" Adrian complimented as he followed up with a serve to Rayen.
The ball flew to the left side of their court, far, far away from Rayen. Yet, with just one blink, Rayen was already over there, jumping to spike the ball with his palm.
Slam!
The ball landed hard on the ground, sending sand flying.
"What just happened?" Yeo Haru stared blankly at the ball. A flash of memories seemed to be awakening in his mind.
’Why does this seem familiar?’
Mr. Big News had no answer to his question, however.
The smirk never left Rayen’s lips as he high-fived with Adrian.
This was Rayen’s ace — the Horse Shoe.
