Chapter 114: How To Compliment Ren?
Chapter 114: How To Compliment Ren?
Ren...
Rayen finally met his adversary, but he didn’t expect it at all. Really, why did he have to bear a grudge with a guy as scary looking as him?
Just give Ren a knife and let him smile, he’d probably look like someone ready to commit murder. This was also the same person who had once asked Plotter if they could use "any" means to gain 1,000 fans before.
Rayen shuddered at the thought of what kind of plan this guy had back then. Maybe, it was a stroke of luck that the broadcast was met with an accident.
Besides, why did Ren’s portrait look so different from his actual appearance?
From the second round song selection, Rayen had ingrained into his mind the face that appeared whenever this Ren intercepted his sponsors’ bids for a spot on the Vocal Unit.
That face had looked decent, with no hint of the dark, piercing energy that was seeping out from this guy standing in front of him.
"I can already see it in your face just how much you’re cursing me out in your mind," Ren said with an awkward smile on his face.
He hadn’t expected to encounter this vocalist his sponsors had messed with before. Though he didn’t feel he had done anything wrong, he still felt awkward facing him.
And then, there was that message KLi had passed from him.
"He told me to tell you, ’I’m watching your every move.’"
However, to Rayen, that smile came off as Ren insinuating something sinister. Instantly he tried to mask his discomfort. Thankfully, he hadn’t taken off the Eye of the Beholder, so he could see how he looked like.
"No, ah," Rayen explained with a dry laugh. "I just think you look good."
Rayen was simply trying to do his mission despite the sour taste left in mouth from uttering those words. And even though he was trying his hard to mask his unwillingness, it just couldn’t be hidden. So, his face ended up looking somewhat constipated.
Ren blinked in surprise and puzzlement at the contradictory words and expression.
’Was he insulting me?’
"Oh, same to you," Ren said back sarcastically.
Liam looked at the two of them with a strange gaze. Finally, he was unable to keep watching them exchange shallow compliments.
"I’m going to eat," Liam said, walking toward a table.
"Yeah, me too," Ren said, following after Liam.
After being ignored like that, Rayen gritted his teeth. He wanted to curse out loud, but he was afraid of it getting caught on camera.
Even when he did something good, he was already evil edited. What would happen if he actually cursed someone?
Clicking his tongue in annoyance, Rayen just went to get his food.
From their table, Liam and Ren watched him do his business. Finally, Ren sighed.
"Your friend really holds grudges."
Liam nodded, continuing to eat.
After a few more moments, one plate was suddenly placed on their table. The two looked up to see Rayen sitting down with a deadpan expression.
They were puzzled. Why was this person still trying to eat with them? Ren gave Liam a questioning look, but Liam only shrugged.
"Don’t ask me," he said.
Breaking out in a cold sweat, Ren looked back at Rayen, trying to read his expression. When he couldn’t he just stood up.
"Are you here for Liam? Then, I will sit on other—"
Rayen held him back. "No. I’m just eating here. You see, I have no one to eat with. I feel a bit lonely."
"Oh..." Ren exclaimed but didn’t sit back down.
Already anticipating this, Rayen pushed two items across the table to bribe Ren.
Smiling, he said, "Let’s eat together. I just want to tell you something."
Glancing at the two items, Ren recognized it immediately. It was the best-seller croissant and a sparkling bottled water in the cafeteria.
’Revitalizing Drink? That’s an expensive regen item! And two of them?! He’s damn rich?’
Ren stared at him in disbelief. Rayen also slid two items toward Liam, who paused briefly before accepting it with a sigh. Reluctantly, Ren sat back down and took the croissant and drink as well.
Liam knew, he had to pay for it later though. Surely, Rayen would demand for his money back. But for now, he was just riding along with his friend’s plan.
Satisfied with how it turned out, Rayen began to eat. In his mind, he was strategizing how to complete the penalty mission.
Looking closely at this person’s get-up, Rayen just couldn’t think of a single thing to compliment him with.
It wasn’t that Ren looked ugly. It’s just that Rayen felt so irked with his mere presence.
His casual posture, his unkempt hair, his piercings... If those things were probably out of the picture, he could find something.
But now, he really couldn’t.
Then, Rayen tried to remember how Yeo Haru had complimented him.
Did this Ren guy looked heavenly? No, definitely no.
Was he sparkling? He was wearing dark outfits, so no.
Then was he cute? Hell no. The only one Rayen thought deserved with that word on this show was Xu Jiji alone.
Lastly, did he look fresh and not tired at all?
Rayen eyed him again, especially his black eyeliner and fierce gaze. It was impossible to tell if he was hiding his under eyebags.
Since Yeo Haru’s compliments about him didn’t suit this Ren at all, Rayen had to abandon this approach. Thinking back with his teammates and Adrian’s words about him, they were almost similar to what just Yeo Haru said.
Sigh.
’This is too hard.’
Rayen racked his brains. How were some compliments counted as detailed and genuine and others were not?
’Heavenly, sparkling, fresh, expression, image...’
Gradually, a pattern was formed inside Rayen’s mind.
He recalled the image of Cupid back then and how he incorporated it with his requests for his costumes. Back then, besides aiming for the highest charms, he wanted others to feel like he really did look heavenly but somewhat young. After all, Cupid was a mischievous angel of love.
Ren seemed to be telling something about his outfits too.
Finally, Rayen reached a conclusion.
How would a person feel that a compliment was genuine? When they felt like the person giving the compliment seemed to have understood what they wanted.
Just like how a woman would feel when someone complimented her hair after she changed her shampoo.
With that conclusion, Rayen opened his mouth. He wasn’t sure if this could even be counted, but he had to try anyway.
"You know, I think you really look unique," Rayen said with a straight face.
This time, Rayen didn’t look constipated at all. He actually felt it was true.
Ren blinked in surprise, caught off guard.
’What?’
