Chapter 42: SHARDS!

Arc 2, Chapter 42— SHARDS!

.

.

Curiosity clawed at Levon’s insides as he and the group followed Winhest across the labyrinth of hallways and doors, each thicker than the last.

Then, descending down a flight of stony stairs, time stood frozen in place.

It was breathtaking.

Many couldn’t believe what they saw.

Looking at the clear underground space, even Levon was infected by the beauty all around him.

Could this be where life originated from?

They were staring at what looked to be a mythical stream... a vast one at that, hidden in an underground stony canal. The structure looked medieval in their eyes.

Creatures danced underneath its water’s glassy surface, and its fruits grew magically on the water’s surface.

"Get on..." Winhest’s nonchalance woke them from their stupor.

Down the stairways, were canoes perched along the elated stony platform.

Each canoe could take 32 people.

Once everyone was seated, Winhest flicked his wrist and his paper ability multiplied.

Is paper not afraid of water anymore?

Many watched these brown parchment looking papers act as engines, pushing and stirring the canoes forward.

Seated on the canoes, Levon fell deep in thought.

’Strange-looking butterflies flapping around the place, apples that grew on the surface of the waters... walls that lit up beautifully with orange bioluminescent moss...’

They say beauty itself is a form of Temptation.

’What are they protecting so tightly?’

Looking around, Levon had no doubt that there should be hundreds and possibly thousands of hidden attacks waiting to eliminate anyone who dares to infiltrate this space without permission.

Levon had no clue or guess of what it could be. However, one thing was certain.

Whatever it was, must be worth more than their combined lives!

(Silence)

There was knee-deep silence as the strangely shaped canoes sailed through the beautifully crystal waters.

Many looked bothered and bored.

"How ugly... At this rate, they’ll all look terrible."

Yimu was once again annoyed by how much nail polish had chipped off.

Floriana was dozing away, and Rita —AKA Pickler—was playing with her toothpicks.

Hendrix turned a page from the book he was reading, while Macho Boy Payne Ignier was right by his side, doing upside down push-ups as the canoes travelled.

Many were unfounded.

Even in a time like this, you still feel the need to workout?

Payne’s body was suspended upright, with his feet up and his head closer to the ground.

It was incredible how he could keep form without shaking, as the canoe travelled.

Victorio and his goons were relaxed.

Shugo was munching on snacks, and Artilla and Levon, both enjoyed Levon’s favorite strawberry Lollipop. Levon was also amazed by how much growth he has done in such a short time.

Even in the outside world, he would never share his strawberry Lollipop, even if it kills him.

What? You say the world is coming to an end and the one way to save it is by sharing his Lollipop? Then sorry, something must one day kill a man...So let the world PERISH.

Before coming here, Levon would have sworn that it was impossible to share his favorite lollipop.

Each day he goes out, he takes the exact number he estimates he’ll need. Cutting the number short could have dire consequences...Not for him, but for the unfortunate bastard who dares to take or steal his candy.

Levon gave Artilla one, without her even asking for it. This fact shocked him greatly after he did so.

Apart from those Levon recognized, there were several other strong contenders within the group.

The boy with the game box played silently, and others also had relaxed expressions, despite the network of thoughts brooding in their minds.

.

.

The journey seemed a little long, yet also short. What a contradictory feeling.

Soon, the canoes reached yet another stony platform.

Without Winhest’s orders, the group got off, following their instructor up another stony-brick stairway and through many wide and narrow paths.

"We’re here."

Winhest stood beside an even majestic boy, bigger and thicker than anyone they’ve seen so far.

They estimated the double-sided doors should be as tall as a 8-storey commercial building.

Its handles—a pair of giant golden rings—also hung on both sides of the gated door.

What human can rightly pull those doors? Those things must weigh several tons.

Winhest gave a slight nod to his left, and the doors slowly opened from within.

Just as there were people watching them during the examinations, this place is guarded 24 hours a day on heavy surveillance.

But where are the cameras? One could mistake the screens Levon had seen earlier, as technologically made ones.

But was it really?

BRMMM~

The doors finally opened.

So bright...

Everyone subconsciously raised a hand above their eyes.

"Come along now, little ones... It’s time to accept your Shards."

Shards?

Levon and many others frowned.

Walking in, they spotted heaps and piles of what Winhest called Shards.

These shards were blue crystal diamonds that glowed with an ethereal radiance.

Standing in the space, many again felt the space should have been built for GIANTS.

They felt like ants when surrounded by so much space all in one place.

There were Hill tops and peaks of these shard piles scattered about.

One could walk for 82 minutes in this vast space filled with all sorts of shards.

’Just where the hell are we on the map?’

This still can’t be in his country, right?

Winhest chuckled. Their dumbfounded looks were quite ’cute.’

"Here’s how it’ll go," He began, pointing at the ground. "Follow the Yellow Road, till the end."

"The Shard Piles are arranged from weakest to strongest... the weakest being close to us." Winhest pointed at the first few Hilly piles on both sides of the yellow road.

One should never think it was a joke when Levon said it was Hilly. Some piles were so massive that they shot right up wards, at least 6 stories high.

Levon massaged his chin thoughtfully. ’If the first hill there carries a collection of the weakest shards, the last one must carry the strongest.’

Roud... Villeta... Sayako... and now Instructor Winhest....There’s no doubt these 4 have supernatural abilities.

It seems the answer lies within these shards.
