Chapter 41: Winhest’s Thoughts

Arc 2, Chapter 41 —Winhest’s Thoughts.

.

.

How does one break such a fall?

Levon’s piercing gaze cut through the gloom, with eyes reflecting the abyss around them.

The air was thick with dread, the kind that clung to the skin like a shroud.

Everyone moved alongside the rotating coin, on the edge of imminent doom... but not hopelessness.

"We need an opposing force equal to this descent." Someone stated. The voice belonged to a hulking figure.

"Way to state the obvious, Einstein." Yimu snapped with a voice as sharp as a blade. "Do you see a rocket or anything else that can give us enough momentum to counter the force? What we need is a safety net—a human one."

"Preferably one that can survive," Rita added.

Yes... It might just work!

Instantly, everyone understood that like it or not, they had to work together to overcome their fall.

The ground was getting closer and closer by the second, too close for comfort.

—And with one tactful stare, they seemed to understand themselves.

GO!

Levon moved in formation with several others, kicking his heels off the falling surface and cementing his feet across the far walls.

"Gotcha!"

Soon, Levon grabbed another person, who in turn grabbed another person...

One by one, they linked arms and legs, forming a giant human net formation across the hole’s circumference that wasn’t particularly bigger than the coin’s circumference.

The hole’s circumference was wide enough to let the coin flip with ease as it fell.

Very quickly, they formed a single straight line across the hole’s diameter, like a bridge.

—And those not building the bridge, acting as support against the walls.

With their numbers, a bridge was all they could do right now.... A bridge with 2 triangular rows of support on each side.

Don’t think maintaining this position was easy.

The strain was unreliable.

To counter the gravitational Drag force was threatening to destabilize them, so they began running like crazy, running upwards with all their might.

Well, running straight up was not an option. What do you think they are? Superhuman?

To run vertically straight, you would need to exert a force greater than gravity’s pull to maintain contact with the wall.

This would require running faster than your terminal velocity, around 100 mph, which is impossible for humans.

Thus, they need both vertical and horizontal momentum up.

Luckily, the walls weren’t damp or wet... so there was only one thing left for them to do.

~Whoosh!

Levon’s feet pounded against the walls, following the rhythm of others with precision.

Go! Go! Go! Go!

That was all everyone could think while running around the walls in circles.

Each step was agony, and each bread tasted of sweat and blood.

Damn, they were almost at their wits end.

Their muscles burned and their veins bulged, yet they continued to run—upwards and sideways, defying the pull of death.

Their speed had to surpass ’their’ terminal velocity, no longer that of the coin’s.

~BOOM!

A deafening boom came through as the metal disc came crashing into the ground.

Like a coin, its edges danced a bit longer, before finally settling down.

’It seems they aren’t so helpless, after all.’

Winhest raised his head slightly, a playful smile evident in his brown glassy eyes.

’Not bad for dogs who barely know how to heel.’

Not bad at all...

The Strong have but one weakness—Their attachment to the concept of working alone.

Even when seeing the advantage of teamwork, the strong many times chose the hard route that led to their deaths.

This is a problem the organization has long detested.

Such people who detest teamwork, will also have a problem taking orders.

That said, if all new recruits can’t work together even with the benefits of teamwork staring them in the face, then they are of NO use to the organization.

For what purpose does a dog live for, if it can’t follow its master’s orders?

With a dark laugh, Winhest slowly walked into the darkness, the sharp edges on his floating paper still gleaming with a dangerous light.

’It looks like I won’t be disposing of anyone today.’

.

.

GO!!

Levon felt a fiery burn in his shoes.

No matter how much they ran, Gravity still pulled them down—which was exactly what they counted on.

While running upwards, gravity was pulling them downwards.

In the end, gravity still won, but... they were now dropping at a far better reduced speed than earlier.

Now, they were going down, but at a reduced speed.

1, 2, 3...

SUCCESS!

They slammed into the ground hard, but still smiled like fools.

’It feels so good.’ to succeed.

Everyone was panting heavily, now resting on the hard detachable surface, which was the disc they fell with earlier.

Then, the devil’s voice awakened from the darkness.

"I wouldn’t do that if I were you, unless you want to do it all over again."

Again? No WAY!

Winhest’s voice made many obedient.

Levon had no strength to stand, but could still Bloody roll... And Bloody roll, he did.

Just like him, several others rolled off the circular platform like sausages.

~VM

The platform vibrated. And in the twinkle of an eye, it swished back to the surface they came from.

But how?

Squinting his eyes, Levon could see strange blue dots underneath the elevating surface.

’What were they? Another type of slime?’

The blue glowing balls took the platform higher and higher in a blink of an eye.

With the giant disc vanished, Levon stretched his palms behind him, kicking his back off the ground, and landing on his toes with knees bent.

Others did the same, slowly getting back on their feet.

"Good..." Winhest’s voice echoed in the darkness. "Keep up."

Everyone subconsciously indeed.

Then began their journey through the dark abyss, until they reached a door that looked like he was made to withstand a doomsday event.

With his hands in his pockets, Winhest spoke plainly, "They’re here... The Bloodren 10s."

Levon looked around curiously.

There were no signs of any cameras or recording gadgets around.

Yet, the massive double-sided gate built for a giant, now opened from its center.

What surprised them was that behind this door—that was 50 times thicker than a bank’s vaulted door—25 others just like it, opened too.

~Vm! Vm! Vm! Vm!

For as far as their eyes could see, they could only see numerous mega doors opening.

It was like a fortress within a fortress, within a fortress...each more impenetrable and thicker in width than the last.

Levon was dumbfounded.

What were they guarding? The Crown Jewels?
