Chapter 43: A Walk Into Destiny

Arc 2, Chapter 43 — A Walk Into Destiny

.

.

Reality, they say... is a Puppetry of Illusions, made to create a sense of calm.

In all their lives, none of them could believe vampires, or superhumans exist.

They could be in the outside world, moving between the shadows.

Day in, day out... you never know who is who, or what.

The reality to those in the outside world, has been adjusted by the hands of the organization.

So in the end, what exactly is reality?

Would you love to live in the bubble matrix created by others, or would you love to be the makers and controllers who spin the reality into what you used to think it was?

Levon’s eyes drooped, recalling Villeta’s words.

{Ages ago, at the dawn of time, a crack in the veilof the world allowed the rulers of the underworld to seep into this world.}

{But where there’s Darkness, Light can also be found.}

{Out of the blue, a Bolt from the skies gave humanity a chance for survival. Thus, the hidden society for Vampire Hunters was formed.}

That’s it.

’The bolt she spoke of carried these special SHARDS, right?’

Levon’s heart pounded in his chest, as he continued listening to Winhest.

"Humans with Potential such as yourselves, can only awaken 1shard... Just one."

"However, there are exceptions, with those awakening 2 shards from their slumber."

Levon nodded.

’So it’s an awakening process, is it?’

This means they can’t willy-Neely go up to the toughest pile to pick.

The Shard MUST choose them.

Many others stood relaxed, but their eyes couldn’t deceive them all.

"Instructor Winhest, in other words, what we get is what will determine our potential?"

"Bingo." Winhest acknowledged, causing the blood in their bodies to boil.

Everyone now focused on the piles at the very far distance, at the very end of the Yellow Brick Road.

Alright. You said these shards are slumbering?

No problem. It’s time to wake them up, and they guarantee they will succeed!

"Then what should we do to awaken it?"

The speaker was one of the injured guys who were too slow when escaping from the auditorium’s collapsing seats.

How they managed to pull their own weight till now, was truly miraculous. From the disc drop and survival, it was amazing they held on as they did.

But then again, in the face of true peril, all humans have hidden strength slumbering within.

"Yeah, Instructor Winhest, what should we do now to awaken it?"

"Well now, little pupils... what’s the hurry?" Winhest grinned, pointing at the first pile.

"Understand this," he began. "The fact that I call Pile is classified as the weakest, doesn’t necessarily mean the Shards are useless."

"What it simply means, is that there isn’t much Mutative growth with these shards."

"Take for example, my Paper shard." Winhest stretched a hand forth, and the paper floating above it turned into a Blue Crystal Shard.

Everyone was taken aback.

Hold on, so... the paper they’ve been seeing all this while was just a transformation ability of the Blue crystal?

Winhest continued:

"Understand that ALL shards will take the form of their Truest Appearance."

"In a nutshell, Shards are WEAPONS.... Thus, their true appearance could be a lance, an ax, a disc, and even paper."

Their shards can be anything.

"That said, their mutative potential is their ability to multiply, evolve, and upgrade themselves to higher versions of what they already are."

So that’s it...

Everyone nodded in understanding.

"Instructor Winhest, then, can one still be a great vampire slayer with a ’weaker’ shard?"

"Great is a far stretch. Above average is what they should aim for. " Winhest shredded light on the possibility.

In the end, they’ll NEVER reach the heights of someone with a stronger shard.

Already right from the start, their futures will be limited, and might end up only reaching a mid-rank level within the organization before their time is up in this world.

Those with stronger Shards rank up way faster, in a few hundred years compared to someone with weaker shards.

Winhest shrugged.

He didn’t make the rules.

It was a well known fact that in their world, the weak will never rise to the TOP.

That was just the laws of this Jungle

.

.

Shards...

Many had calculative thoughts.

This would explain why the people of this organization were so strong above human capabilities.

Why can Winhest survive such a fall on the disc unscathed, while they were fighting with all their strength and brain cells to think of a way to survive?

Levon’s eyes shone thoughtfully when thinking of Villeta’s strange web ability.

Shards—They held the key to everything.

"In total, there were 24 mountainous piles of shards." Winhest announced. "You’ll all go along the Yellow Brick Road in pairs of 4."

He continued:

"There are 153 of you, so one person will go alone in the end."

"As per our policy, The first to arrive in today’s class goes first."

’In that case, the last to arrives goes... So I’m going Last?’ Well, Levon knew his place. And he will be the only one walking on the yellow road at that time.

Just then—

Winhest calmly raised his hands, creating a giant board with all pairs listed.

There were 38 true pairs, and one lone group with Levon in it, making a total of 39 groups.

"Hey, buddy, it looks like you’re going to be a superstar." Shugo laughed in amusement.

"Don’t worry, brother Levon, I have faith in you." Artilla’s softly encouraged.

She didn’t know why, but she had absolute faith in whatever Levon would awaken.

Shugo and Artilla were in Group 21, alongside Hendrix and Payne.

What an interesting pairing...

Yimu, Floriana, and Rita, were in the same group as the guy who always had his hands busy with the game box he held in his hand. They were in Group 13.

Victorio and 3 of his people were in Group 29.

There were quite a lot more noticeable people in groups that Levon took note of.

But with 152 strong people gathered, it was hard to truly know who was tougher than who.

At least, when it came to Floriana and the others he had taken the examination with, Levon had a slight gauge into their capabilities.

Levon swallowed his words when seeing Artilla’s big doll-like eyes.

Forget it...

Since she was worried for his sake, it would be inconsiderate of him to speak otherwise.

He was really changing. This thought only lasted for a second.

Levon shook his head wryly, turning his attention to the many piles of shards before him.

That’s it...

Time to walk the Yellow Brick Road!
