Chapter 997: Just save me then

"Let her go! I said let her go!!"

BANG!

Hera recklessly pulled the trigger, hitting the roof of the car. This time, she successfully stopped Dragon. He slowly turned his head, only to see the thin smoke coming out of the muzzle as Hera pointed it at him again. Heaven, on the other hand, slid her eyes in her direction.

"Let her go!" Hera repeated, this time louder. "If you don’t, I’ll shoot you!"

"Hah." Dragon scoffed, releasing Heaven’s neck slowly.

Hera’s entire body trembled, observing Dragon as he moved back slowly. "Get out of —" Before Hera could finish her next instruction, Dragon suddenly jumped to her and Heaven too.

"Kyah!" Hera squealed and dropped the gun, only for Dragon to catch it. Fortunately, Heaven was quick to react and grabbed the pistol, stopping Dragon from firing it.

"Let go!" Dragon roared, but Heaven gripped the pistol tighter.

"Get out, Heaven!" Hera growled back, keeping her eyes on Dragon while holding the pistol between them. "Stop being stupid and get out now!"

Screech!

The three of them were tossed to the other side as the car suddenly drifted. Heaven and Dragon bounced, hitting their sides against the walls of the vehicle while Hera was able to cling to the handle. Hera quickly recovered, turning her head on instinct, only to see their car moving away from the other side of the railing.

Heaven was no longer driving, nor was she trying to maneuver the car. She was too busy fighting Dragon in such a close space. However, none of them thought of that anymore because of the situation. But now it hit Hera. Why, Heaven kept shouting for her to get out.

"I can’t stop it!" suddenly, Joker’s faint yells were heard. "You have to get out!"

"I told you to stop!" Heaven roared, pouncing on Dragon when he tried to pick up the pistol they dropped. "Joker, what the hell are you doing?!"

"Fuck running! You have to get out of there before they get me! Just save me then!" Joker yelled back. Based on the sound of his voice, he sounded like he was running out of time. "I’ll drive and find a safe place for you to jump! Thirty seconds, you’ll reach a soft ground."

"This fool..." Heaven ground her teeth, still engaged in a struggle with Dragon. Without looking at Hera, she yelled, "Did you hear him? One of my men is risking to save us! Jump when he said to jump!"

"I won’t let her —"

Heaven released Dragon and raised her elbow, hitting Dragon’s chin up. Blood had spilled with both Heaven and Dragon, inflicting injuries from their fight. Fighting inside the car was a hassle. Their space was small and their movements were limited. If lucky, they would be able to dodge the attacks. But most of the time, they had no choice but to receive the blow.

"Five seconds!" Joker yelled once more. "Two — jumped!"

The four doors suddenly flew open, almost making the three of them fall.

"Heaven!" Heaven yelled. "Get out!"

"Out!" Joker also yelled, but his voice this time almost didn’t reach no one.

"I won’t let you — ugh!" Dragon grunted as Heaven twisted his arm.

"Heaven!" Heaven shouted once more, only to hear Joker shouting as well. "Boss! You have to get out! Leave her!"

"Now!"

Hera hesitated, confused and panicked. Heaven kept yelling while Dragon would take his opportunities to stop her.

"For once! Listen to me!" Heaven bellowed and Hera shut her eyes. "Jump! Cover your head and jump!"

Hera shut her eyes and held her breath. After all the yelling, grunting, curses, the sound of the engine, and the harsh wind, Hera was finally able to shun all of them. When she reopened her eyes, she nodded at Heaven.

She didn’t know why, but from that brief time they stared at each other, Hera knew Heaven would jump with her.

"Shit!" Joker cursed once more. "I’m turning! Jump now!! Or it would be too dangerous if you reach the concrete! Fuck... they’re here."

"Heaven!" Heaven shouted. "Now!"

Without thinking anything, Hera held her breath and jumped out of the car. She kept her eyes on Heaven, who also jumped away from Dragon, throwing herself out of the car. But alas, Dragon was able to grab Heaven’s ankle and pull her back.

"Hera..." Hera whispered and before she knew it, pain struck her from every direction.

She rolled on the wet ground, covering her with mud. Her body instinctively squeezed itself together, protecting her head even before she could think about it.

"Ugh..." Hera grunted as soon as she stopped rolling, clasping the mud as she forced her eyes open. As soon as she did, she caught Heaven’s body flying out of the car and then Dragon was still inside the car, with his hands stretched as if he pushed her out.

"Hera..." she whispered, watching Heaven bounce heavily against the concrete and roll.

Everything had happened so fast, yet, in Hera’s eyes, it appeared in slow motion. She almost counted how many times Heaven hit her head and how blood splattered all over Heaven each time.

"Hera..." she murmured, stretching her hand out in great difficulty.

The sound of gunfire echoed in the air, syncing with the sound of cars approaching. Hera blinked weakly and caught another figure rolling on the ground. But unlike Heaven, Dragon’s jump was planned.

BOOM!

The sedan exploded almost right after, deafening Hera for a moment. The next thing she knew, she saw someone dragging Heaven and another round of gunfire.

"Don’t... take... her..." she whispered as she slowly lost consciousness. "... sorry."

At the same time...

Joker breathed out in exhaustion and closed his eyes. He was crouching behind a small pillar on the rooftop, a device on his lap that showed a disconnection line. Before his connection to Heaven was cut, he knew things didn’t go as planned.

"She should’ve just left her alone. If she did, things wouldn’t be this bad. Now, how was she going to save me?" he muttered to himself, reopening his eyes and lifting it to the numerous people surrounding him. "That’s a lot of guns to take down one man. I’m flattered."

Joker smiled, gazing at the guns pointed at him. After a second, something solid hit his temple and his consciousness slipped from his hand right there and then.
