Chapter 996: What truly happened

"... if I wasn’t careless, Hera — this body wouldn’t end up brain dead, and Joker wouldn’t get caught."

"What?" Moose breathed out. "What are you talking about? How did you know Joker was caught?"

Heaven slowly shifted her gaze to Moose, lips pressed into a thin line. When she moved her gaze to Dominic, a shallow breath escaped her.

[Flashback]

"Hera... hah! No wonder your actions remind me of the woman in my memory." Dragon grinned deviously, keeping Heaven’s neck locked around his arms from the backseat. "You’re not jumping out of here, Hera. I’ll kill you before anything else."

Heaven clasped the arm wrapped around her neck, slipping her finger in between to create some space for her. Hera, on the other hand, winced in pain. Dragon kicked Hera in the stomach, and it wasn’t just a simple kick. It almost broke her ribcage.

"Fuck..." Heaven hissed through her gritted teeth, keeping her eyes on the road. Despite Dragon’s hold on her, she stretched her other hand on the steering wheel, turning it so they wouldn’t cross the other side of the road.

"You bitch..." Dragon hissed, tightening his grip on Heaven’s neck. "I’m going to kill you. I’ll kill you. Kill you!"

Heaven’s face slowly turned red, but kept herself calm as she did two things at the same time. She continued to slip a finger in between her neck and his arm, lifting her foot until it was on the steering wheel.

"Tch," Heaven hissed one more time, eyes burning as she glanced at the rearview mirror to see the angry look plastered on Dragon. "Keep... fucking... wishing."

As soon as those words rolled out of Heaven’s tongue, she kicked the steering wheel while her other hand reached for the recliner lever. With the force of her kick, the driver’s seat abruptly reclined all the way down. Heaven slipped down from his grip and the seat forced Dragon back.

Without wasting a second, Heaven jumped until she was facing Dragon. Grabbing his hair, she pushed it to the side until his head hit the window... repeatedly until blood stained the cracks of the window.

"Pray!" Heaven shouted until her voice shook, tossing him back aggressively. She panted, staring malevolently at the luckiest person she had ever met in her life. "You bastard. Why don’t you just play fucking dead? Ah, shit. You really know how to rile me up."

When Heaven calmed herself down, she glanced at Hera. "You okay?"

"Mhm." Hera clasped her stomach. "I think I broke a rib."

"It won’t kill you," Heaven remarked nonchalantly. "Get out."

"Huh?"

"We’re going to crash." Heaven’s tone dropped as a layer of frost coated her eyes. "If this thing crashes, it’ll kill you even with the seatbelt on."

"But with this speed —"

"You’ll live!" Heaven yelled until her voice cracked. "Jump and hug yourself, protect her head — remember everything in that damn fucking head! What’s the use of it if you don’t use it?!"

Hera opened and closed her mouth, but couldn’t say a word out. She turned to the window, biting her lips at the speed they were going. It wasn’t like she didn’t know the reason Heaven was asking her to jump out. And it wasn’t like she wasn’t aware this wasn’t the first time this body did such a dangerous thing.

Even so, it scared her.

She might know that this body knew how to protect itself or how to lessen the damages, but she also knew the pain. The real Hera was no god, nor was she immortal. Her pain tolerance might be high, but the thought of pain was enough to discourage anyone.

"Heaven Liu!" Heaven yelled, almost biting her tongue when a jab came straight at her face. She dodged the punch, only to realize it was a mere distraction.

Dragon wasn’t really trying to punch her. But instead, he grabbed her shoulder and pushed her back. Heaven let out a yelp as her back hit the steering wheel, making a loud honking noise. This time, Dragon jumped to the front, one hand on Heaven’s neck while the other held her wrist and slammed it against the window repeatedly.

"Shit!" Heaven cursed through her gritted teeth, feeling her wrist break. Yet that didn’t stop her from using her foot to kick his leg. Dragon slid down and briefly lost his balance, giving her a chance to breathe as his hold on her neck loosened.

Dragon and Heaven wrestled back and forth, trying to get the upper hand. Every time she would move, their car would turn right and left because her back would repeatedly hit the steering wheel. The spontaneous direction of the vehicle put both Heaven and Dragon at a disadvantage.

"Boss! Shit!"

While Heaven and Dragon engaged in a fierce altercation, Hera squeezed herself into the corner. All she could do for a moment was watch the two of them fight, blood slowly tinting the inside with red. Suddenly, he heard this faint call somewhere in the car.

"What is that?" Hera blurted out, flinching as Heaven once again overpowered Dragon.

"Ugh!"

"The car!" Heaven yelled, crouching in the driver’s seat to launch a kick at the backseat. "I lost my brakes!"

Hera’s eyes shook, trying to find the earpiece Heaven was initially wearing. But she couldn’t find it in Heaven’s ear anymore. It must have fallen while fighting Dragon. Even so, everyone could still hear Joker’s voice due to the volume of the earpiece.

"What?! Impossible — ah shit!" Joker hissed and paused for a moment. "I’m trying to put it back to full control! Give me two! The rooftop is a trap!"

"Just run!" Heaven shouted. "I’ll figure this out — run!"

"Boss!"

"Ugh!" this time, Heaven inflicted another assault on Dragon.

"So everyone knew, huh?" Dragon’s voice shook, laughing in ridicule. "No wonder they stuck with you like a dog."

Heaven clenched her teeth, struggling under Dragon’s assaults as he attacked continuously and angrily. Hera, on the other hand, squeezed herself further away, still hearing Joker’s yells somewhere in the car.

"Boss! Hey! Is everything okay!? Ah... shit!"

Hera froze on the spot, torn between jumping at Dragon to help Heaven or staying still. She was afraid she would just make things worse for Heaven, but at the same time, Heaven might need some help. Especially now that Dragon elbowed her jaw and jabbed straight at her chest.

’What am I going to do...?’Hera wondered, panicking. ’Should I —’

Just as she was wondering what course of action she must take, Hera suddenly felt something on her feet. Looking down, she caught a small pistol slide from under the front passenger to the backseat. She gulped, mustering the courage to pick up the pistol and aim it at Dragon.

"Let her go!" Hera yelled, making Dragon pause from strangling Heaven again. "I said let her go!!"

BANG!
