Chapter 986: Dead or alive
Primo stood motionless on the concrete railing on the rooftop of the facility. The facility was smaller than the first one they got to, but this place was more hidden as it was surrounded by a forest. Anyone who would find this place would instantly think this hospital was shady.
But then again, this wasn’t the only hospital in the world that was in a secluded area.
He knew a few as he had stayed in places like this as Primo Rossi. Most people in the underworld had little trust in people. Building a facility like this one would give them reassurance and safety they could be weak in a safe place.
That wasn’t his main concern, though.
"That damn old man..." he hissed quietly, scoffing in ridicule. "After all those big talks in front of me, he’d just fall for a trap like a pathetic fool."
Despite the animosity between Wolf and Primo dating back years before the present, this news didn’t please Primo at all. Back then, Wolf was like a thorn in his throat that Primo couldn’t simply pluck out. He was the reason Primo had to be careful in his devilish activities because Wolf was determined to put him behind bars.
All Primo wanted back then was to end Wolf. It was just that life was twisted, and they ended up fighting together.
Not that he had grown fond of Wolf. To be fair, Primo and Wolf would never forget what they did to each other, even at the end of their lives. It was the reason this news about Wolf disappointed him.
How could Wolf let himself fall into a trap?
"Did he think his enemies wouldn’t use his position to stop him from helping us?" he muttered to himself, clicking his tongue in irritation. "I should’ve known he might be arrogant, but he’s old. He isn’t as sharp as he used to be."
Another deep sigh escaped him, shaking his head. He shoved his hands inside his pockets, eyes on the thick darkness in the farthest part of the forest.
"Now, Wolf is already incapacitated," he whispered. "Fig and Tiger are still recovering to full health. Joker is somewhere and his situation is obviously not good. Not to mention, Heaven."
He drew another deep breath and closed his eyes. "What now?" he wondered. "Where should we go now? And what should we do now?"
As a previous boss, Primo could imagine what their enemies were doing right now. While everyone else was recovering to full health, he was certain their enemies were already on the move. This wasn’t good for them.
"We have to do something," he said aloud, sensing a presence coming from his back. "If I was the enemy, I’d already made my next move and I wouldn’t stop taking steps to widen the gap between me and my enemy."
Slowly, Primo turned around, facing the person who came onto the rooftop. Much to his dismay, the person he was expecting wasn’t Moose. He furrowed his brows, assessing the woman standing a few meters from him. She was wearing a hospital gown, some scars on her face, and light healing bruises on her cheekbones.
"Who the hell are you?" he asked, noticing the fire in the woman’s eyes.
"Deborah," she answered. "I used to work for Dragon."
Primo furrowed his brows, keeping his observant eyes on Deborah. He heard about this woman and another man Joker and Fig rescued. However, he didn’t know Fig kept them in this place.
"I heard what happened," she said. "At least, a small part of it."
"So?" he arched a brow. "Are you asking me to tell you everything? Why? Do you think I’m a fool to trust Dragon’s people?"
Deborah nodded in understanding. "Of course, you don’t trust me."
"Why would I?" Primo jumped out of the concrete railing, afraid Deborah would run to him and push him to his death. Better safe than sorry. "Fig might’ve rescued you, but that doesn’t mean I have to care for you. He might be like that, but I’ve grown fond of him. His snacks are great — not gonna lie."
"I think I know where Dragon would be," she remarked without beating around the bush. "He has a lot of places to go, but knowing him, he’d go there."
Primo kept his eyes fixed on her and sighed for the umpteenth time. "Do you think that matters now?"
"Huh?"
"We got all the locations of his hideouts and it won’t be that hard to narrow down which place he had hid," he explained nonchalantly. "The thing is, that isn’t our priority right now."
"Why not?"
"Because..." Primo trailed off as he ruffled his hair in irritation. "Because of many things, okay?"
"I know you don’t trust me, but you should at least reconsider hearing my input."
"Why would I? I don’t know you, and I don’t care about you!"
"How about Hera?!"
Primo scrunched up his nose at her, but Deborah simply looked at him in dismay.
"Weren’t you spreading the rumor about your engagement with her?" Deborah remarked, making him realize some shameless things that almost slipped his mind. "You kept running your mouth and earned Dragon’s attention. I know you, Primo — Alexander Cafre. I’m the one who pulled up your records for him. After being in trouble because of Hera, will you just let her be?"
For a moment, Primo only kept quiet, unable to argue with Deborah. Saying more might put their lack of plan at a disadvantage. Who knows? Deborah might still be working for Dragon and everything was just for show.
"I owe Hera my life. Despite what I had done to her, she still wanted me to live." Deborah’s voice cracked. "I couldn’t protect my sister, but at least I want to make things right. Revenge is something I gave up already because I realized I couldn’t do it on my own. However, Hera must be saved."
She paused and swallowed the mouthful of air in her throat. "Isn’t that the reason many of you were now in this situation? Because of her? You were trying to save her and failed. Even so, you’ve already inflicted so much damage. What difference would it make if you stop?"
"Moreover... if we got Hera, all her people would stop working for Dragon," she added under her breath. "He’ll lose many of his followers, including the majority of his alliances. Hera isn’t just a victim we need to save, but a leash to many people."
Deborah nodded slowly, eyes still holding Primo’s. "Getting her out of there should be the priority. I worked for Dragon for a long time, and not everyone allied with him because they wanted to protect Hera. Many of them simply want her dead. Killing her is also one method to free themselves, Alexander."
"She is in danger," she continued. "Once Hera dies, you won’t only have to face Dragon and Dimitri, but also everyone who wants every single Reaper dead."
