Chapter 983: This is for you, not for her or anybody else.

Just as planned, Ram went to the secret facility where Heaven and a few members of the Reapers were. He had been here multiple times, and thus, it wasn’t a hassle coming in here anymore. However, Ram stayed in the car while his assistant went inside to inquire about Fig’s condition.

Not long after, his assistant came back and immediately reported the moment he hitched inside the front passenger seat.

"It seemed they were transferred to a different location, sir," the assistant reported, looking back at the back seat. "They weren’t allowed to disclose where they transferred the patients."

"I see."

"Should I look into it more?"

"There’s no need for that." Ram shook his head. "If they hide, it’s almost impossible to find them."

Ram snapped his eyes at the window, looking at the entrance of the building. "It only means they do not trust me, which is understandable. I don’t trust them either. At least, not in this situation."

Just as the words rolled out of Ram’s tongue, he caught a figure coming out of the entrance. His brows rose a little, watching Moose lit up a cigarette while advancing in their direction.

"He shouldn’t be smoking around the establishment grounds," he commented quietly, watching Moose bent over a little and knocked on the window. Ram wound down the window and immediately got a scent of the pungent smell of the cigarette.

"My bike is in the repair shop," said Moose, blowing out the smoke inside the vehicle. "Can you give me a ride?"

"Not with that cigarette in your mouth."

Moose clicked his tongue. He pushed himself away, taking two long drags as he walked around the rear. When he dropped the cigarette and stepped on it, he unhesitatingly got in the back seat, joining Ram in the vehicle.

"Happy now?" he smiled, knowing the pungent scent of smoke lingered in his clothes. "It’s not like you don’t smoke, Ram. Stop acting like I’m the bad guy here."

"It’s not the smoke that’s bothering me. It’s the reason you’re here."

"I’m a doctor." Moose shrugged. "I saved lives and even if I’m not officially employed in this hospital, they recognize my talent and reserved an office for me. My cause is pure."

The two of them stared at each other without saying anything for a moment. After some time, Ram peeled his gaze from him and then to the front passenger seat.

"Let’s go," ordered Ram calmly. "Let’s drop him off at the repair shop downtown."

With that being said, the driver started driving the vehicle away from the facility. Meanwhile, the assistant kept his guard up in case Moose did something dangerous. Even if Ram was quite too relaxed, things could go awry in the blink of an eye.

"I heard your little assistant here is asking about Fig’s condition." Minutes later, Moose leisurely broke the building silence and tension in the car. "He’s fine. Those fats he worked so hard to gain somehow saved him from any life-threatening injury."

"I see."

Moose slid his eyes to the corner. "I’m trying my best to act as a good friend, Ram. You might as well pretend that’s the only reason you came."

"I worry about Fig, but I do not need to pretend that’s the sole reason I came," Ram unhesitatingly revealed, knowing Moose already knew his intentions. "So, there’s no need for you to try your best to act as a good friend. I already know you are."

"Who does he want now?" Moose returned, not beating around the bush. "Seeing you here means you’ve already met Dragon. And knowing that bitch, I’m sure he’s demanding more from you."

"I can’t disclose my business affairs."

"Business affairs?"

"I came here with full awareness that we are not on the same side anymore," Ram argued calmly, looking Moose straight in the eye. "Not disclosing your whereabouts to him and not disclosing the details of my deal with Dragon is just what I do."

"For who?" Moose arched a brow. "For Hera?"

This time, Ram didn’t say anything as it was only a waste of breath. But his silence was enough to earn a short laugh from Moose, as he didn’t need to hear Ram’s straight answer.

Both of them knew each other very well. Words weren’t needed in this situation because their silence was enough to do the talking.

"You’re making a mistake, Ram." Moose shook his head. "You are not... fighting for Hera."

"Believe whatever you want to believe —"

"Did you hear what happened to Wolf?" Moose followed up, cutting Ram mid-sentence. Another moment of silence followed, making Moose rock his head slightly. "How about Joker? Do you know what happened to him?"

A short smile cracked on Moose’s face, holding his anger back while keeping his gaze fixed on Ram. "I don’t have to ask you about Fig as you clearly know what happened to him. Nor do I have to tell you about every single Reaper who was forced to work for Dragon. You are not fighting for Hera, Ram. She... took her last breath trying to save us all. Even for the last time, she did everything. Yet, you’re helping the very man who ruined everything she worked so hard for."

"Do you think she would thank you for all of this?" he continued under his breath, scoffing in ridicule. "Once she regained her strength, you’re the first person she would kill. Or maybe hearing all of this would only make her wish she never woke up."

"What you are doing is not saving her, Ram," he added, stressing each word to get his point across. "No matter how you delude yourself, facts will always be facts. You can twist all the lies and make them sound rational in your head, but you can never erase the truth. The truth is that you, of all people, are too blind and emotional to be the judge right now."

Moose paused as he drew a long breath, looking away from Ram and setting them ahead. "You’re not fighting for her, but rather, you’re simply trying to make amends to quench your guilt. This is for you, not for her or anybody else."
