Chapter 981: Some things never changed

Chapter 981: Some things never changed

It was impossible, but Dragon heard what he heard. He had seen what he had seen, and there was no mistaking it. No matter how ridiculous and incomprehensible it was, denying it would only put him at a disadvantage.

After his short meeting with Ram, Dragon sent him away. He had nothing else to tell him. He said what he wanted to say, and it was up to Ram if he would give him Heaven’s head. Ram could do whatever he pleased unless he didn’t want Hera’s safety anymore.

"Hah..." Dragon sat down on the chair, taking deep and long breaths after making his way to where he kept Hera. Looking at the unconscious woman on the bed, a short and airy laugh of mockery escaped him.

"Even after death... you don’t fail to mock me," he muttered, wincing as his injuries were still fresh. "How dare you...?"

A burning glint flickered across his eyes, burrowing a hole in her head with his gaze. Despite all the injuries he inflicted and the piles of problems that arose from the incident, he would never forget the conversation between Hera and Heaven.

"I should’ve known," he muttered, recalling the first time he had met Heaven Liu. "Those eyes... I should’ve known."

The first time Dragon met Heaven was an ’accident.’ Dragon’s appearance at that time was simply to silence Primo. After all, Primo somehow saw Hera and was running his mouth about marrying her. He could just order someone to kill Primo, but Dragon went by himself to show the man what sort of man Hera needed.

And there, he met Heaven for the first time.

Their first meeting had already left an impression on him. After all, her fierceness reminded him of Hera. Thinking about it, Hera would do even the craziest things to get her hands on her targets. Jumping from the roof to the helicopter was nothing compared to all the things she had done in the past.

He should’ve known the similarities. He should’ve entertained his interest in her. If only he did, he would’ve found out about it earlier.

"But... I didn’t," he whispered. "Because at the end of the day, it’s not something I would believe in."

Soul swapping? Exchange of bodies?

Who would believe that?

"Hera..." he called, eyes still fixed on Hera. "Or rather, Heaven Liu. Hah. No wonder you are so pathetic."

Or was she?

Dragon slowly clenched the end of the armrest as he ground his teeth angrily. If this was the real Hera, then it was only natural to call her pathetic. But if she was truly Heaven Liu, then one would consider she was... brave.

She was brave enough to play with fire and actually cause damage to him. She made him believe everything was real, and she broke through the barriers in his heart, which left a devastating wound within it. She touched him in a way the real Hera wouldn’t. So, admit it or not, this woman was braver than pathetic.

"Even so... being in that body still gives me an upper hand," he murmured, closing his eyes and calming himself down. When he reopened his eyes, the turmoil burning in his eyes disappeared. "You might’ve made a fool out of me, but I won’t let you stir my emotions anymore. Even if you’re not Hera, I will make use of that body until you’re no longer needed."

Dragon leaned back as his tensed shoulders relaxed. "That face and body are enough." He nodded. "The only difference is that... I no longer see you or need you somewhere else."

Another glint flickered across his sharp eyes, his gaze still fixed on Hera. According to the doctor, her injuries weren’t fatal. It wasn’t surprising, though. After all, Hera jumped out of the car according to Heaven’s instructions and to a more safe place.

She would wake up in no time.

Dragon, on the other hand, had some serious injuries. Thanks to his survival instinct, he was able to reduce damage. Thus, he was fine and simply needed enough rest to recover. In just a few days of rest or weeks, he would recover fully.

"Heaven Liu..." he whispered, rubbing the end of his fingertips on the armrest. "I don’t think she’ll be fine."

His tone upon recalling what happened to her and what could be her situation softened. After all, he was able to kick her out of the sedan before he jumped out himself. Jumping on their own and being kicked out were two different things. After all, Heaven wouldn’t have anticipated the fall and even if she did, she had too little time to prepare herself.

He drew his lips into a thin line, lowering his gaze.

"I waited for her for years..." he whispered, lifting his gaze ever so slowly. "... waiting for more and taking care of her again won’t make a difference anymore."

Even if the rest of the Reapers would come after him, it wouldn’t make a difference. After all, they were already targeting him.

"I won’t let her get away this time," he whispered, telling it to the unconscious Hera. "Even if she’s in that body, I’ll use her original body to my advantage and keep her soul... for myself. Hah. That bitch never ceases to give me problems. She should see my efforts. After all the headaches, I’m still willing to forgive and take care of her."

Dragon cocked his head back and closed his eyes to rest them for a bit. When he reopened them, the corner of his mouth curved down.

"Heaven Liu..." he whispered to himself, recalling the information he asked Deborah to gather in the past. "If I remember correctly, she’s married and recently gave birth."

His expression turned sour at the thought that while he was taking care of Hera, she was fooling around with another man. And she even had the luxury of bringing life into this world. He knew, after all, Dimitri worked for that man for a long time.

Right...

"Dominic Zhu," he added under his breath, laughing, setting his eyes back to Hera. "Oh, Hera. I can’t let that man live, can I?"
