Chapter 975: Too late

[2 days after the incident.]

"How are you?" Wolf leisurely marched inside the ward, throwing the question to Tiger even before he sat in the chair beside the bed. "Moose begged me to come and check on you, saying he was traumatized each time he did his rounds in this ward."

Tiger chuckled, casting the other bed next to him with a look. Ivy bit her lips as her cheeks turned red, making Wolf shake his head.

"Goodness." Wolf clicked his tongue continuously. "You won’t even going to deny it, huh?"

"I’m all good." Tiger snapped his eyes back to Wolf. "To be fair, I’m recovering faster than I thought I would."

"Maybe you just think that because you’re being fed." Wolf glanced at Ivy, and then back to giving Tiger a knowing look. "By her."

Tiger smiled. "Maybe?"

"Tsk tsk tsk." Wolf sighed. "Well, anyway, if you’re doing better, then that’s great."

"Why?"

"I’m leaving today. Despite what happened, I still have a day job." He shrugged. "I’m still a big contributor to society, after all. So, I’m visiting you before I leave."

"Ahh..." Tiger rocked his head. "I’m okay."

"Thank you for thinking of me... shouldn’t you be saying that?" Wolf gasped, nose scrunched up. "Your lack of manners is sometimes really astounding."

"Thanks for thinking of me." Tiger chuckled. "Anyway, did you hear anything from Bear?"

Wolf frowned, a little disappointed at Tiger’s lack of appreciation for his efforts. But then again, this kid had always been rebellious and often shy to express himself. Tiger had only fully opened his heart to Hera, and now, to Ivy.

"Well, I did. They’re busy," said Wolf. "That’s all I got. You know Bear. He just updates and says what’s important. Not that I’m interested in what they ate on the plane or how many hours of sleep they got."

"I see."

"Fig also regained consciousness last night."

Tiger and Ivy’s brows rose, eyes wide at Wolf.

"He’s doing fine." Wolf darted his eyes between the lovebirds. "Dominic prepared a feast for him before he left, and the guy ate to his heart’s content. It’s a good sign. Or maybe bad, since he needs to have a diet. Though his fats saved him this time, but it’ll end up killing him."

"And Heaven?" Ivy blurted out, earning Wolf’s and Tiger’s attention. The light mood in the ward instantly dropped the second she blurted out the question.

"Still the same," Wolf sighed, smacking his lips to keep his light tone. "She almost had a cardiac arrest last night, but they were able to stabilize her. From what I heard, she woke up last night as she had a seizure."

"What?" Tiger gasped mildly, brows furrowed. "She woke up?"

"Yes... for a moment."

"Is that a good thing?"

"Even the doctors couldn’t say that exactly. Some say it could be just a natural reaction. They can only ascertain things once they get the results of her tests today," explained Wolf. "That’s all I’m waiting for before I leave. I want to know if she’s going to recover or if I have to prepare for the worst."

"I see..." Tiger gazed down while Ivy pressed her lips into a thin line, looking at Tiger with deep worry in her eyes.

Ivy was worried about Heaven, too. However, she was also worried about those who were waiting for her to recover. She had been praying for Heaven to recover and that a miracle would happen. She prayed that once Heaven woke up, she could still live a normal life like she used to. On the other hand, she also prayed that she recover because she felt like if Heaven didn’t, Tiger and these guys would voluntarily march to their deaths.

It was a hard thing to understand, especially if all their answers to why they were doing this were vague. But she just had to swallow this pill of truth and their determination.

"Anyway, since I already ascertained that you two are doing fine in your recovery, I better go report it to Moose." Wolf planted his hands on the armrest, pushing himself up, eyes down at Tiger. "He will still come here to check your vitals. So, until then, refrain yourself from any licentious activities."

"Moose is being sensitive." Tiger rolled his eyes. "We’re not always having sex. Just making out most of the time. He’s acting like he’s a virgin Mary."

Flustered, Ivy looked away. Wolf, on the other hand, just sighed.

"Leave the guy alone. He’s been working hard."

"Just tell him to come. I won’t do anything whenever he makes his rounds."

"Well, thank you," Wolf remarked sarcastically. "Alright then." He then snapped his eyes at Ivy, earning a short smile from her when he bid her farewell.

Setting his eyes back to Tiger, he took a step forward and tapped his shoulder. "Get well. I’ll be back tomorrow or the day after that, but I’ll stay in contact."

"Mhm."

With that being said, Wolf retrieved his hand and turned around to leave. But just as he was by the door, his steps halted upon Tiger’s call.

"Hey, old man." Tiger waited for Wolf to look back at him, wearing a solemn yet sincere look. "Take care."

Wolf arched a brow but then smiled. His foxy eyes and naturally cunning face softened.

"Goodness. My heart just fluttered. Are you worried about me?" he teased, chuckling. "Don’t worry. I will. See you in two days. Don’t miss me."

Wolf’s lips stretched wide as he recalled his visit to Tiger’s and Ivy’s ward this morning, pleased at the fact that the rebellious kid was softening up to him. After many, many years, Tiger was finally treating him with care. What a refreshing feeling to feel.

"That kid..." he chuckled, shaking his head. "He’s annoying most of his life, but he’s a good one."

Wolf snapped his eyes on the window, noticing that the chopper he was in was slowly descending to the rooftop of the Central Intelligence’s headquarters. But just as he was waiting to land, he felt a vibration in his chest. Slipping his hands inside his suit, he took out a phone and saw Bear’s contact number on the screen.

"I wonder why he’s calling so soon?" he murmured and then answered the call.

When Wolf placed the phone in front of his ear, deep lines appeared between his brows. At the same time, their helicopter landed, and the door slid open from the outside. Looking at the armed men outside, he ran his tongue across his inner cheek.

"Too late," he said to the other end of the line. "I’ve arrived."
