Chapter 964: Your priorities are here

Chapter 964: Your priorities are here

Meanwhile...

When Ram and Bear heard that Tiger engaged in a chase with Dane, they sent out their forces to help them out. One of the reasons Tiger and Dominic were able to shrug off their pursuers was because Ram contacted the president. After a long negotiation, he was able to force the president to order his people to pull out the police from the chase.

But just as they successfully did so, they heard another terrible news.

Thus, without wasting a deep breath, they went to the nearest helipad to fly their way out of Sorrento. After an hour and a half of travel, they reached a secluded health facility.

"Hah..." Ram slowed down in his tracks as they reached the hallway of the emergency surgery room.

Bear, on the other hand, also stopped. His eyes were wide as his gaze fell on Primo, who was sitting on the floor right outside the surgery room.

"You..." called Bear, making Primo turn his head and look up at him. He glanced at the bloodstains all over Primo, clenching his teeth, and marching toward the man. Without further ado, Bear grabbed Primo’s collar and lifted him from the floor.

"What did you do to them?" Bear roared the moment Primo was at his eye level. "Weren’t you with them? How come you’re fine with barely small scratches while they were inside this room?"

Primo’s face turned sour as he held Bear’s burning gaze. "Because if I’m not fine, then the three of us will die."

"What did you say?"

"Oy, old man. Are you seriously blaming me even before you hear the entire story? Why?!" Primo’s voice shook as it echoed in the quiet hall. "Because I’m an outsider?! That’s why I’m to blame by default?! Hah!"

Bear’s grip on Primo’s collar tightened, his face turning red in anger. However, while staring at Primo, he could tell this man was not at fault. Just like Bear, Primo was just as worried and on edge.

"Stop that, Bernard." Ram suddenly turned up from their side, placing a hand over Bear’s arm. "Let the kid go. I know you could tell he did his best to take them here."

Bear ground his teeth, keeping his eyes on Primo. The latter, on the other hand, didn’t look away. After a few seconds, Bear released him and stepped back.

Seeing this, Ram let out a deep exhale as he snapped his eyes at Primo. "So, only Fig and that woman Heaven Liu were here?" he asked, watching Primo slowly look back at him. "Where’s Hera?"

Primo opened his mouth, but no words came out. He ran his tongue across his inner cheek, looking at Ram with a tinge of ridicule.

"Do you think I care about her?" he remarked sarcastically. "With Heaven and Fig’s situation, I’m just glad I was able to get them here on time without hearing they’re dead on arrival."

Ram’s expression darkened, but unlike Bear, he didn’t lose his temper. "What happened? And where is she right now?"

"I don’t know." Primo shrugged as he staggered back, resting his back against the wall. He looked away, setting his eyes on the light above the shut door of the surgery room. "All I know is Joker messed things up not just for everyone, but especially for these two. If he didn’t mess things up, Heaven wouldn’t end up in here and Fig will not take three bullets to shield her while we take her unconscious body with us."

The corner of his eyes turned even redder as he balled his hands into a tight fist. "We were on the chase. So, when they jumped out of the sedan, Fig risked his life to take her back. That’s how he ended up injured. I didn’t have the time to take that other woman." Primo took a deep breath and smacked his lips, facing Ram once again.

"The last time I checked, I think Dragon’s men retrieved her and Dragon. It was a mission fail."

Bear and Ram went quiet for a moment as they gazed down. Both had different yet very alike worries. Bear slowly clasped his hands into a tight fist, having a rough idea of how the situation turned out like this.

After another moment, Ram turned around to leave.

"Where are you going?" Bear asked just as Ram turned his back on them.

Ram smiled bitterly but didn’t look back. "I have no reason to be here. I trusted you that you’d protect her, so I worked with you." Another deep exhale escaped him. "You once adored her more than anyone else, Bernard. But seeing that you’re like this over another master, I realized I shouldn’t have considered you valued her the same."

"I don’t blame you, though." Ram fluttered his eyes up, his expression solemn. "It’s just that we have different priorities now. Yours are here, while mine is somewhere else. I’m sure Hera isn’t in a good state, either. I worry about her, and not Heaven Liu."

With that being said, Ram took steps away and then stopped on the fifth step.

"Right," he added, looking back at Bear for a moment. "I’d appreciate it if you keep me posted on Fig’s situation. That kid worries me too."

And just like that, Ram walked away without stopping or looking back. Meanwhile, Bear stared at his friend’s back quietly.

’Your priorities,’he whispered to himself. ’... is here, Ram.’

But Bear didn’t have the energy to say that. He didn’t have the energy to make a long explanation. He couldn’t even think of anything that could convince Ram that Heaven was Hera. Meanwhile, Primo sighed heavily as he shook his head.

"That damn old man," he clicked his tongue in irritation, arching a brow as he caught someone approaching the hallway. When Primo shifted his gaze, deep lines appeared between his brows as he caught a man in a scrub and surgeon’s head cap.

"That guy..." Primo trailed off, noticing Ram stopping in his tracks as the surgeon walked past him. "Mr. M?"

Ram also furrowed his brows as he looked back, eyes on the surgeon’s back as the latter marched toward the surgery room. "Moose."

"Moose," Bear also called the soonest he recognized the person approaching, taking a step to the side to give way. From what it appeared, Moose didn’t plan on dilly-dallying or having a chat with them. Thus, he grabbed Moose’s arm to stop him.

"Moose." Bear waited for Moose to look back at him.

"Oy," Primo called with a shaking voice, wide-eyed. "I know you can experiment on me, but what the hell are you planning to do? Don’t tell me you plan on meddling with the surgery —"

"Please... tell me. She’s fine. She’ll be fine."

Primo stopped mid-sentence when he heard Bear’s remarks; it sounded more like a begging. He slowly turned to Bear, realizing Bear seemed he was putting all his hope in Moose’s hand. Moose stared back at Bear, unblinking. His expression, even with a mask covering half of his face, told Primo it was completely different from the ones he usually wore.

What was going on? Were they truly going to trust Moose, who had a suspicious medical license, to do her surgery? The situation was already dire enough! Could they truly trust Moose to handle this one? Primo wasn’t an expert, but he knew they needed the best of the best group of surgeons for this to succeed.

"She has to," Moose breathed out. "That’s why I’m taking over the surgery. But I don’t think she’ll be fine if you keep holding on to me."

Bear instinctively released Moose’s arm while Moose kept his eyes on Bear. Instead of prolonging the conversation, Moose looked away. He cast Primo a quick look before entering the surgery room, leaving everything behind to save the only person he failed to save once, despite all his medical knowledge and experience.

He would save her this time.

At the same time, Dominic, Tiger, and Ivy reached the hallway. The three of them halted, looking at Bear and Primo, standing while staring at the door of the surgery room.

"No," Tiger breathed out as he suddenly dropped to his knees. He shook his head, eyes fixed on the surgery room. "This is not happening — no."

Ram, who stopped by the side, gazed down at Tiger. The lines between his brows deepened, staring at Tiger and then at Bear. Recalling Moose, his furrowed brows creased even more.

’This scene...’he thought, setting his eyes on the door of the surgery room. ’... feels like deja vu.’
