Chapter 960: Lost the brakes

Chapter 960: Lost the brakes

For most who knew Heaven, it was better to hear no straight answer from her about certain situations. Because once she said things had gone awry, it only meant it was bad.

"What’s wrong, Hera?" Hera inquired nervously. "What is it this time?"

Heaven didn’t answer immediately, keeping her foot on the brake, but it wouldn’t work. She already stopped stepping on the other pedal, but the car was still moving forward.

"This is bad," she whispered, snapping her eyes ahead. Ignoring Hera, she pressed on her earpiece and spoke. "I have a problem."

"Oh, no! Not again!" Primo yelled with his head turned to the back seat to see their enemies catching up. "What problem do you have this time? Can’t you resolve it on your own? Don’t tell me Dragon is putting up a fight —"

"I lost my brakes."

The rest of Primo’s words rolled back into his throat, almost choking at her remarks. He instinctively pressed his earpiece, brows furrowed, eyes shaking.

"What do you mean?" he asked, making Fig turn his head in his direction. "Oy, Heaven Liu. Don’t fuck with me right now. Our hands are already full —"

"We might have to jump out of the car," Heaven continued in the same solemn undertone. "Tell Fig to keep us in sight."

"What the..." Primo clenched his teeth, lifting his eyes to Fig. The latter looked at him with curiosity and a tinge of worry beneath his eyes.

Even before Primo could tell him what Heaven was saying, Fig already had a bad feeling.

"Hah..." Primo breathed out through his parted lips, eyes on Fig. "She lost her brakes."

"What?"

"She said she lost her brakes!" Primo ground his teeth as he glared at the sedan ahead. "Shit! Let’s take cover. She said they’d have to jump out of the car. Fuck! She shouldn’t have gone back inside!"

Fig’s breath hitched as he set his blank eyes on the windshield. With their speed, jumping out of the car would be fatal. No matter how skilled Heaven was, she might be able to reduce the damage and save her from dying. However, even with that was dangerous.

Heaven was not immortal. She might be a monster in the eyes of the many, but she was still human. Jumping out of the car would definitely hurt her badly.

"Why? How?" Fig breathed out, gripping the steering wheel tightly. "Don’t tell me... Joker forgot to give back full manual control?"

Primo turned to Fig with burning eyes but said nothing. Instead, he set his eyes ahead, heart thudding, the veins in his temple protruding.

"I’ll buy her some time," he said, crawling his way to the backseat. "I’ll deal with these guys while you keep your eyes on her. We can’t let them stay on our tail if they plan on abandoning their car."

Fig didn’t answer, but he nodded. Both men understood the severity of the situation. Even if Heaven got out of a fast-moving vehicle, it would be too dangerous for her if the enemies were still on their tail. Shooting her while she was on the ground or running over her were only a few of thousands of possibilities if the enemies were still alive.

As Primo was crawling his way to the back seat, a sudden force pushed their car off their lane. Primo shook sideways, clenching his teeth as he lifted his head. The other car bumped into their side, pushing them off the lane.

"Fig!" he yelled, looking back at the driver’s seat. "Keep your head together! Unless you want both of us dead and Heaven too!"

Fig barely blinked as he gulped. "Sorry," he breathed out, twisting the steering wheel and bumping against the car beside them.

"Shit!" Primo cursed through his gritted teeth, forcing himself to focus on crawling to the back seat. When he succeeded, Fig stomped on the pedal once more.

Sparks appeared between the cars as Fig picked up his speed until the window of the backseat was leveled with the front passenger seat. Primo rolled down the window slightly, opening fire straight to the inch-gap space of the front passenger seat.

Meanwhile...

"We lost the brakes?" Hera gasped, eyes wide at Heaven. "Hera, what do you mean —"

"Do I have to repeat that over and over again?!" Heaven hissed, grinding her teeth as she scanned the surroundings. "Get ready to jump out, Heaven. Even with our seatbelts on, we’re going to die if we crash with it."

A glint flickered across Heaven’s eyes, searching for a good spot to jump to. Jumping right now was too dangerous. Glancing at the side mirror, Fig and Primo were currently going head to head with those on their tails. The car in the front, on the other hand, hadn’t opened fire since minutes ago. They probably gave up fighting and just wanted to retreat.

"Can you see that plain over there?" Heaven breathed out as she caught the field several kilometers from them. "Jump when I told you to."

Hera’s eyes shook, setting her eyes on the field beyond the railings of the freeway. She gulped, feeling her entire body shaking at the thought of jumping out of the car while it was still moving. But then again, if they jumped on the concrete, it would hurt them even more.

"Oh, god," Hera whispered, holding on to the handle while unbuckling her seat. "I can’t believe this is happening."

"You should’ve said that when you woke up in my body," Heaven sassed, eyes sharpening as she held her breath. "Get ready."

After another careful breath, Heaven unlocked her seatbelt. She secretly clenched her teeth, twisting the steering wheel to crash it into the railing and onto the field. But just before they crashed through it, a pair of arms suddenly wrapped around her from behind.

"Hera!" Hera yelled, only to feel a striking pain erupt in her stomach when a foot hit it.

"Hera... hah!" Dragon laughed, keeping his arm locked around Heaven’s neck. "No wonder your actions remind me of the woman in my memory."

Dragon grinned deviously, casting Hera a malicious look. "You’re not jumping out of here, Hera. I’ll kill you before anything else."
