Chapter 959: I said no
’What the hell are they saying? That the Hera I’ve been was someone else all along? And Heaven Liu is actually... Hera?’
Ridiculous as it may sound, but somehow, it made sense.
Dragon kept his eyes closed, recalling his first encounter with Heaven Liu and the first time Hera woke up from her coma. Back then, he felt something was strange. When Hera woke up, she was muttering something and mentioned Heaven’s name.
That had been a mystery to Dragon.
Initially, he wondered why would she say Heaven’s name in such a groggy state. However, that thought was thrown at the back of his head because of everything that had happened. But now that he thought about it, everything resurfaced in a different light.
If this was the ridiculous truth, then everything made sense.
It made sense why Hera, who was with him, hadn’t done anything to save herself from her situation. Knowing Hera, if she claimed to have remembered anything, she would have acted even if she was against a hundred people. Especially during those weeks, she wasn’t taking any drugs to affect her strength and mind.
If Hera remembered everything, then it wouldn’t be surprising if she tried to walk out of the mansion through the front door.
’It’s impossible,’he thought, telling himself not to jump to a ridiculous conclusion. ’But then again, no matter how ridiculous it was, it made a lot more sense than any logical reasoning.’
If the real Hera was in Heaven’s body... no, this was not an "if" situation anymore.
Just the level of craziness Heaven displayed was enough evidence she was not new to this. Her actions were only surprising because she was Heaven Liu. If she were Hera, her actions would only fall to an expectation the underground had for the queen. Not to mention, Dragon didn’t take notice immediately, but the way Heaven called him was something only those close to him called him.
Frankenstein.
Only a selected few in the reapers called him that because he had always liked science experimentation. That was also how he got the idea of faking Hera’s death by using a decoy body.
"Enough with the drama." After a full minute of silence, Heaven spoke again. "Those guys in the back were Dragon’s backups."
"What?" Hera instinctively looked back, catching several more cars and then Fig’s.
"If my calculations are correct, Dragon invited them over, thinking he would be facing his former business partner," explained Heaven. "It only made sense since he plans to end Dimitri’s life."
Hera’s shaking eyes shifted back to the driver’s seat. "What are we going to do now? If we take him with us, they will follow us to the ends of the world. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration that they would even come to hell if that was our destination."
"Heh." A short chuckle escaped Heaven, smirking. "Hell is my playground, darling. Following us over there will be their greatest regret in life."
Hera pressed her lips into a thin line.
"We’ll shrug them off on the way to the rendezvous point," Heaven continued. "Until then, keep that guy down and hold tight. This situation is just starting. We have a long way to go. Conserve all your energy because I might need you to back me up later."
"Yes!" Hera nodded, fists up, her eyes burning with determination. "Just tell me what to do. I’ll do my best!"
"Goodness. This isn’t an audition that you have to do your best," Heaven chuckled and shook her head. "It’s more like... you have to bring out your worst, Heaven Liu."
"Yes — yes."
"Hold tight."
With that being said, Hera and Heaven didn’t exchange words anymore. Heaven focused on the road while Hera leaned back until her back was almost fusing with her seat. Hera then glanced at her side, eyes falling on the unconscious Dragon.
’Should I buckle him up?’ she wondered to herself. ’I guess I don’t have to. Even if he dies here, I don’t care. It’s not like Hera would let us all die in here. The worst that could happen to him is that he would bruise a lot.’
Hera nodded to herself as she looked away, setting her attention to the driver’s seat and then the windshield. This was her first time out of Dragon’s mansion. Thus, she was a bit surprised at how far and desolate the mansion’s location was.
They had been on the road for half an hour now. And they were driving at full speed at that. Yet, they hadn’t reached the city.
’Considering Dragon is a syndicate, it was no surprise that they lived in such a suspicious place,’she thought. ’To be fair, this location is perfect for a crime syndicate like them.’
Out of curiosity, Hera looked back. She couldn’t count exactly how many cars were tailing them. But for sure, it wasn’t less than four, including Fig.
"What about that one car?" Hera inquired, setting her attention back to the driver’s seat. "I mean the one ahead of us."
Heaven fluttered her eyelashes at the car ahead. "Depends," she muttered. "If they want to fight, then I’d send them to the other world. But if they got away, I won’t follow suit."
"Aren’t they targets as well?"
"They are... but not right now." Heaven’s tone grew solemn and cold. "Our mission right now is to save the hostages."
"Hostages?" Hera furrowed her brows. "You mean Leo and I?"
"And another one."
"Another one?"
"Mhm." Heaven just hummed, keeping her eyes on the car ahead before glancing at the side mirror. "You and Leo weren’t the only ones who were held captive. Though the captor is different, the situation is still connected. With that on the table, you can say we don’t plan on having a full-blown fight with either Dragon or Dimitri. At least, not when there were innocent people involved."
Her expression turned stony, veering to the other lane. "We would deal with them..." Heaven trailed off as she stepped on the brake to slow down a little, only to glance down when the vehicle didn’t slow down.
"... no," she whispered, stepping on the brake with force, but to no avail.
"What, no?" Hera furrowed her brows, watching Heaven’s expression change as the latter faced ahead. "Hera, is there’s something wrong?"
Heaven didn’t respond.
"Hera?" she called one more time. "Is everything alright?"
"I said... no," Heaven breathed out, gripping the steering wheel tightly, eyes on the road. She just realized that the reason the car had been moving forward despite Joker losing control over it was because it was stuck in drive mode.
