Chapter 956: Uh oh
Chapter 956: Uh oh
Meanwhile, Primo cursed and yelled as he sat back down in the front passenger seat.
"Those fuckers!" he ground his teeth while reloading. "Why can’t they stay still?!"
"You’re not aiming right," Fig remarked solemnly, eyes on the driver who was shooting Heaven from behind. "You have to end them before they hit her."
Fig was certain their speed was the reason Primo found it hard to hit the enemy, and the latter was not hitting Heaven despite her broken back windshield. Right now, all of them were driving at full speed. The wind was also a strong point.
"I know that!" Primo exclaimed in frustration. "But I am still injured! Do you think beneath this suit, the bandages around it are gone? It’s only been a few days since they attacked me in that forest. I’m just glad Moose had spared prosthetics."
Fig glanced at the escort car over the sedan in the middle. Heaven was now driving and stopped fighting. The inside of the vehicle showed traces of dents and bullets.
"She can’t stay there for long," he muttered to himself, setting his eyes ahead. "Let’s switch."
"What?"
"Drive this one."
"How!?!" Primo gasped, looking at Fig in disbelief. "It’s not that I don’t understand what you’re saying, but that’s impossible right now. Even if we recline the seats all the way down, you can’t just crawl here timely!"
"A downside of being overweight, huh?"
Primo scrunched up his nose. "You just realized that your physique had many downsides in this line of work?!" His eyes were wide in disbelief at this revelation. It was even more shocking than the fact that Fig had the highest rating in the reapers.
"Never mind!" he shook his head and huffed. "I’ll try again. I know you’re worried since there’s nothing to protect her in the back. It’s the same for me."
His expression darkened, pushing the magazine into its place with the bottom of his fist. "I hate this feeling, but her existence keeps my morale at an all-time high. If she dies, I get the feeling that we’ll all end up dead."
With that being said, Primo stretched his body out of the window and shot the car ahead. He immediately pulled himself back in when he heard gunfire from behind him. Clenching his teeth, he also fired back at those behind them.
Meanwhile, Fig couldn’t help but glance at Primo, who was now fighting not just the front but also those in their tail. After a moment, Fig let out a deep sigh as he gazed ahead.
’He is not wrong,’he told himself. ’Hera’s existence is what keeps our morale at an all-time high. And if she dies, we won’t be alive for long.’
Aside from that harsh truth of reality, Fig had another reason. Dying was too shallow of a reason to fight. Dying in the underground was very easy. The main reason was... he didn’t want to attend her funeral again.
’Hera...’he whispered to himself. ’... what now?’

Heaven, on the other hand, kept her eyes on the rearview mirror. Since she was driving in reverse, she had to keep her eyes on it most of the time. While staring, she caught a rifle from Romnick’s vehicle before the driver opened fire. This time, the driver hit the rearview mirror.
"Joker," she called, snapping her eyes away from the shattered rearview mirror. "Did you hide?"
There was no response.
Her grip on the steering wheel tightened. Earlier, she heard Joker cursing and panicking, telling her in a panic that those on the rooftop weren’t Wolf’s people. He had been quiet since then. She glanced at the sedan where Hera and Dragon were.
Dragon was in the driver’s seat, but he was just holding the steering wheel. It seemed he had stopped trying to take control of the vehicle.
"If he tries again..." she whispered, clenching her teeth secretly. "He’d realize Joker isn’t controlling the car anymore."
A sharp glint flickered across her eyes, knowing that the reason the car was still moving was because it was currently sandwiched. But if Dragon tried once more, he would realize controlling it right now was easy.
"Those guys were after him," she murmured, looking at the cars ahead of her that were behind the sedan and Fig’s car. "I have to let those guys off for now."
"Primo," she pressed her earpiece, calling Primo to get his attention. "Hey."
"What?!" Primo yelled, making her slightly wince. "Ah, sorry. Damn."
He panted, looking back at the cars on their tail. "They almost got me. What do you want, Boss? This is a problem. These guys won’t let us off easily."
"That isn’t the problem right now."
"What?" Primo stopped his activity and pressed his earpiece to hear her clearly. "What do you mean, that isn’t the problem now? If this isn’t it, then what is it?"
He glanced at Fig, only to see the latter side-eyeing him.
"Joker met a problem, and he lost control of the sedan," she explained, keeping it short and simple. "I’m going back to the sedan. We’ll retreat."
"Wait, what?!" Primo panicked. "How?!"
"Tell Fig. He’ll know what to do."
With that being said, Hera pressed her earpiece again and held the steering wheel with both her hands. She squinted her eyes, reorganizing her thoughts as if she was already imagining the next scenarios in her mind.
Primo, on the other hand, looked at Fig.
"What did she say?" asked Fig. "What problem were you talking about?"
"She said Joker met a problem and that he lost control of the sedan." Primo cleared his throat, keeping his thoughts clear from any distraction. "And also, we’ll retreat once she gets in the sedan."
"I see." Fig nodded in understanding. "Buckle up."
Primo’s brows rose.
"She initially planned to get back in the sedan, but now that Joker lost control over it, she had to force her way in," Fig summarized. "We’re going to buy her some time."
"How will you buy her —" Primo instinctively clung to the handle as Fig suddenly moved away from the sedan, slowing down and drifting around. Realizing their position, Primo gasped as his breath hitched.
"Uh, oh." A sound escaped him as their car started driving opposite Dragon’s backup. "So, this is how it’s going to be."
