"Damn it!"

Dragon and Hera shook sideways from the impact of the cars that had sandwiched them. They held onto anything, and Dragon glared daggers at his side when they got brief stability. Fig was still driving with his eyes ahead. Looking on the other side, Heaven was also driving in reverse, protecting herself from the backups he had.

"That freak," he cursed through his gritted teeth, venting his anger on the steering wheel. When he calmed down, he was panting and holding the steering wheel. "What to do?"

Dragon mentally soothed himself as he wondered what to do. He couldn’t control the vehicle and drive it. The windows and doors wouldn’t open. Whatever Joker and his genius mind did to take control of this car was surely irritating.

’I can’t stay like this,’ he told himself, glancing around the driver and front seat. ’The compartments are empty and she threw away my rifle. She didn’t leave anything useful behind. Damn it!!’

Dragon punched the steering wheel once more. There was nothing more infuriating than not being able to do anything in certain situations.

"Heaven Liu..." he breathed out through his gritted teeth, glancing at the side where Heaven was. "Hah. You won’t have the last laugh."

Dragon glanced at the rearview mirror, staring at the cars who were keeping up with them despite their fierce gunfight with Heaven. None of them died so far. The more he looked, the calmer he had become.

’I summoned them to come, thinking I would fight Dimitri today,’ he thought, setting his sharp eyes ahead. ’Who would have thought that instead of Dimitri, they would be fighting a much more freaky being?’

Dragon and Dane had been partners for years. Dragon knew him more than anyone. Dane was born without a conscience. He was aware his partner would kill him in retaliation — although Dragon had always known Dane would kill him even if he didn’t betray him. Therefore, he contacted people who would never join forces with Dane in secret and made a deal with them.

Who would have thought he would need them against someone else too?

’It doesn’t matter,’ he told himself. ’These people are capable in the underground. Even against a few members of the reapers won’t be a problem.’

Dragon closed his eyes and drew a deep breath. When he reopened his eyes, he was calmer than he ever was since the beginning of this hellish ride.

’I have to wait for my chance,’he mentally agreed to himself. ’It’s obvious this car is a cage on wheels. I have to be patient and wait for my chance.’

Turning his head in Heaven’s direction once more, his jaw tightened. ’You will be my key, Heaven Liu.’

Meanwhile, Hera observed Dragon quietly. Their vehicle found stability with it sandwiched between Heaven and Fig’s car. Initially, how things had unfolded rendered her speechless. But after staring at Heaven and how she was currently driving in reverse while fighting was something she told herself to get used to. Fig was still driving, but his partner was fighting those ahead of them.

Since her rescuers were busy with something else, Hera told herself to observe Dragon. Just moments ago, he was shouting and cursing while punching the steering wheel. But now, he just went quiet.

’What is he planning?’ she wondered, clasping her hands in her lap. ’The drug in my system is starting to wear off.’

Her body was still in pain from Dragon’s previous assault. Not only did he slapped and punched her, he also strangled her almost to death. After some time, she stayed quiet in the backseat to reserve her energy if ever he planned to kill her again.

’I don’t know what he is thinking right now, but knowing him, he won’t go down without a fight.’ She nodded to herself, looking around the backseat to find anything that could help her. ’I need something to help me in case he assaults me again. Or if he plans to do anything to turn things around.’

Hera glanced at the driver’s seat cautiously, her eyes shaking as they searched for any weapon. But alas, just like Dragon, it was clean. There was nothing she could use to defend herself.

’This can’t be...’ her grip on her lap tightened, grinding her teeth in frustration. ’If he does something, and Hera is still there, then... he might get away.’

As Hera thought of alternative ways, her brows suddenly rose. Her gaze veered to where Heaven was.

’That’s right,’ she thought. ’I don’t need a weapon to fight.’

Hera swallowed down the chunk of tension in her throat. ’How can I forget?’ she wondered. ’I might not be the real Hera, but in a way, this body had strong muscle memory. Even before I can think, this body always moved on its own to save herself from harm.’

The soul in this body had almost forgotten that, aside from the haunting memories of the original Hera, this body was skilled enough to protect itself. The real Hera lived in this body for almost three decades. Therefore, her instincts were deeply rooted in her bones.
