Chapter 945: You’d be last
Hera screamed now and then, especially whenever their vehicle crashed into something or made its abrupt turn. She felt like she was on a roller coaster, maybe worse. She closed her eyes, holding on to anything to reduce the impact. Meanwhile, Dragon would grunt and curse, unable to buckle himself as the driver of their car didn’t give him enough break to do so with her crazy driving.
Heaven, on the other hand, retained a stony expression as she drove as recklessly as possible. It was as though she had no regard even for her own life. Despite the special modification on the car that protected its shell, the vehicle looked more wrecked at every crash.
"You crazy bitch!" A yell from the backseat resonated in her ears, compelling her to do more. "Fuck yo — ugh!"
Dragon hit his head once more, releasing another grunt due to pain. His rifle slid from his lap, bouncing on the car’s floor while he clung to the handle above the door. This was crazy — this woman was insane. He already knew she could be very unhinged, considering she had once jumped from the rooftop to catch him in the helicopter.
"Heh." Heaven’s eyes glinted, pleased at the painful sound earned from Dragon. When she glanced at the rearview mirror to see him, she realized her anger wasn’t quenched.
What angered her wasn’t the fact that Dragon concocted a scheme and hid her body all these years. In a way, that revelation barely surprised her. Considering her sinful life, she was not surprised that someone like him would do something so unspeakable.
But what truly angered her was the fact that Dragon used her people and made her fight them. The fact that she had to slay a few of them just because they didn’t know the person they were trying to protect was actually the person they thought was an enemy.
Protecting him? The mere thought of it irritated her to the core. If there was someone she wanted to hurt right now, that would be Dragon. And even if she beat every part of him, she was certain that wouldn’t quench her anger.
However, the situation they were in inevitably made her appear like she had to protect him. Therefore, she resorted to venting her anger differently, hurting him pathetically just by driving recklessly.
"Kyah!" Hera screamed once again, only to stop when she heard a thud from the side. This time, their vehicle stopped, and she opened her eyes out of instinct. Much to her horror, the side of their car — where Dragon was sitting — crashed into another car.
’Oh, god...’her lips quiver, glancing at the driver’s seat on instinct. "What... what are you planning now?"
Just as the question slipped past her mouth, another squeal escaped Hera. A round of gunfire resonated in her ear, hearing it land with a solid thud against the window on Dragon’s side. Dragon instinctively ducked down the first time the bullet hit the window but then realized it was bulletproof.
"Damn..." Dragon breathed out, looking at the cracks in the window before glaring daggers at the driver’s seat. "You crazy bitch! I’m going to kill you!"
He roared angrily, wasting no time in bending over to pick up the rifle on the floor. He initially disliked the fact that Heaven made him feel powerless. But now, her action was pure disrespect and beyond irritating. He knew she was doing this on purpose, enjoying watching him bounce around the backseat like a ball.
But just as he picked up the rifle, Heaven lifted her hand and hit the muzzle with the bottom of her palm. A loud bang resonated in the vehicle they were in as Dragon shot the roof of the car. Holding on to the body of the rifle, Heaven pushed it back aggressively.
"Ugh!" with how flimsy his grip was, the rifle handle easily hit his shoulder. Before he knew it, Heaven snatched the rifle from him and aimed it at him. Back against the backseat, with some ringing gunfire from the window, Dragon grunted as the rifle pressed against his chest.
His breath hitched as he gazed at the driver’s seat. Heaven was looking back, holding the rifle at him, unfazed by the situation within and outside the vehicle. Staring at her right now reminded him of the different methods Hera would resort to putting everyone in the reapers in their place.
"I know you understand that it only takes two seconds to take your life," she remarked coldly and dangerously. "Do you know why I am not doing it?"
Heaven paused, holding Dragon’s gaze sternly. "Because killing you instantly is kindness, Dragon. All those people..." She drew a deep breath, holding herself back from revealing the root of her unquenchable wrath.
After all the hassle and trouble she went through to leave her people with the gift of a new life, Dragon used her to pull them all back to the same hell they tried to get away from. Initially, she thought that some of her people probably joined his organization just because they couldn’t turn away from the life they had gotten used to. But after meeting a few of them, she realized how wrong she was.
They were all hostages, victims of their loyalties, which were used against them.
She should have known how loyal her people were. Not just the core members of the Reapers, but also her little soldiers, even those at the bottom of the ladder. In a way, she understood she was also partially at fault.
’This is the result of my complacency,’she thought, realizing her business as Hera Cruel hadn’t ended with her ’death.’ ’Hera... isn’t allowed to die without taking every single one of them to the grave, huh?’
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Another bout of gunfire showered their car from the outside. Heaven clicked her tongue as she huffed, pulling back the rifle and tossing it to the front passenger seat. At the same time, she heard a loud tire screeching from the side. When she turned, she caught the SUV beside them driving in reverse, only to drive ahead to crash into them.
"Those stupid fuckers," she grumbled through her gritted teeth. "Fine. I’ll start with them first." And then looked back at Dragon. "I’ll save you for dessert."
